Nah. The newer barbz are going crazy over a #2 debut. They put so much focus on that after her two previous #1's. A unnecessary meltdown. Its VERY weird. That's why Noone else is trippin lol. I mean look at the numbers this late into her career(I would talk my shxt too like everyone else does🤷🏽). Idk I'm happy.🤷🏽

I'm not anti-Nicki, I'm not even against the song, from the couple times I heard it so far I liked it. But this is a win for the greater good. This shows that Billboard has successfully hindered the ability to manipulate the charts

Weeks in Top 2
19 - Old Town Road 18 - Stay, Uptown Funk
Weeks in Top 3
21 - Uptown Funk, Closer, Blinding Lights 20 - Stay
Weeks in Top 4
34 - Blinding Lights 26 - Stay
Weeks in Top 5
43 - Blinding Lights 27 - Stay, Shape of You, Closer
[If not for Christmas, Stay would own both the Top 2 and Top 3 records.]

I think most people would assume Cardi. Or else doja or megan if they have short attention spans. i have to say, still getting 48k sales sorta indicates the filtering isn't that strong. say so got 66k two years ago, when sales were even weaker, and doja fans were there too.

We'll see if there's really a change if BTS releases there next song.

Nicki coming for that #2->22 move, but kudos to her fans playing the game even that well.

^Permission to Dance and My Universe debuted at #1 and definitely benefited from the rule not existing when they did so.

I want to see how much she sold in pure, hope someone reports on it.
Also, this is still a win for her but I just hope her fans think of that second week because as of now it feels like they will try to chart the other single in top10 too and I just fear both songs are gonna plummet on week 2.

In my opinion, My Universe was a legit #1 (it was also #1 on the Rolling Stone chart - when it existed - something even Dynamite and Butter didn't achieve), while PTD was not (Stay was clearly the bigger song that week and deserved to debut at #1).

Willow shouldn't even be counted as a number one, outside of the Taylor stans no one was paying attention to that song. And that is not a dig at Taylor or her fans, just a fact By this insanely stupid logic, none of her albums should be #1 either. In fact, NOBODY'S albums should be #1, since only the fans are paying attention to them. And let me explain what I mean. Doja, Lil Nas X, and Olivia's albums felt huge outside of their inside fanbases. Taylor's did not. Only time the album was mentioned was inside her fanbase. Look at the other three artists I mentioned. Their albums clearly were not buzzing inside their fanbases, but also outside their fanbases. Pre-streaming era, artists could not just rely on their fans to sell their albums. Look at Aretha, Diana, and Donna Summer, their albums sold well when their songs reached large audiences (meaning audiences outside of their fanbases). Whitney, Michael, Paula, Janet, Madonna, Mariah, Beyonce, Alicia Keys for example, got number one albums because MANY PEOPLE and NOT JUST FANS bought their albums. if they relied on fans their albums would not be well over the 10 million marks Now enter the streaming era, one person can listen to a song multiple times ,whereas, back then if you listened to it multiple times that did not count. With the streaming era, fanbases can impact the charts easily and they use it to their advantage. Shall we look into the BTS/Nicki situations... What I'm trying to say is number one albums today can be legit number ones. Like I stated earlier, Olivia, Doja, and Lil Nas had songs that reached outside their fanbase. Also, The Weeknd album also reached beyond his fanbase. Taylor's did not reach outside her fanbase and honestly I do not think that was her goal. Taylor does not have to try to reach out her fanbase because it is huge, but only huge with her fans.

I see plenty of non Swifties talk about her releases. They are a moment. Just very shortlived (first week).
The TVs in particular aren't even meant to last much more than that.

If you have to remind people... You have a point. You don't see Beyonce going around saying she is the Queen. You didn't see Whitney, Mariah, or Celine going around saying they have a good voice or that they are the voice. They let their work speak for itself. Nicki is insecure for whatever reasons relating to her career.

I agree, like girl #2 is still good, take it and celebrate with your fanbase, why go on these essays and try to justify your self or your career and legacy? It just feels weird to me, like own your success and stop the thinkpieces. It also sometimes feels like she does this because she knows her fanbase feeds off it or something, feels a tad bit disingenous.

Will Nicki ever get a number one or a hit on her own/lead artist? What is with all the features???? Maybe she is scared the album won't do as well. But enough of these damn features...

Still a very strong showing. A win for Nicki. I remember a lot of barbz clowning Cardi when UP debuted number 2. Good for her though…..just saying. The reaction to another prominent female artist was a little different. I also remember Nicki throwing subs about “Tik Tok” songs only to try to deliberately create a challenge with various dancers. Let me ask a question. Why is it that Nicki (and her fans) always discredit other women’s success to build up her own? Then it was “this ain’t no Tik Tok song with the challenges” and now it’s “Well I’ll use Tik Tok but….at least this one doesn’t have sexy visuals” like she wasn’t twerking onstage to Anaconda. When you’ll do that, though, it makes it difficult for others to give you’ll props. “All the collaborations couldn’t do it”….Please. Nicki has a habit of taking pot shots at others while accepting accolades that’s a little off putting. But again, congrats.

Yet, she is arguing with people in the tiktok comments and giving us these essays on Twitter. She is one of the few artists, I see do this. Nicki does come up as disingenuous and I will say she is very problematic. She acts like a school bully, than queen....

How is that embarrassing? She seems humbled here and not upset at all. Seems like no matter what she would’ve tweeted you were going to say “How embarrassing.”

Just like her other #2 1's, it'll come if its meant to be. Her new team should be elated in the promotion and everything that came along with it. It's more than the numbers. The fans did what they needed to do. Her longevity, especially as a female rapper isn’t talked about enough.

But I don’t think the point you are making is much of anything. Regardless of how Nicki or Cardi perform, Stans are going to engage in stan war culture. This is nothing new, so spare me the “how come Nicki fans” bit. Cardi’s fans are just as guilty. In fact, they rubbed it in Nicki’s fans faces when she never had #1 hits prior to getting her 2.

i just have no idea why the method of music consumption that *way* more people use today is weighted more than the method that a fraction of those people use

It's the WAP shade for me. I find DWHAP not bad but these mental gymnastics she's doing to justify she's okay with debuting at #2 isn't it.
