I'm not anti-Nicki, I'm not even against the song, from the couple times I heard it so far I liked it. But this is a win for the greater good. This shows that Billboard has successfully hindered the ability to manipulate the charts That's the better point. This streaming era has shown artists will have their fans tip the scale and pass it off as measuring popularity for the week. Buying an instrumental, clean and explicit copy of the same song on itunes then purchasing the same thing on their faves website only to stream the song for a day or two and then forget it practically is how some artists not just place their thumb on the scale but their whole two hands on it. 2020 was the mecca for obvious reasons but as we transition to the new normal it's time to make it measured and more balanced again. who is Nicki slut shaming for losing to Bruno? the Encanto cast? WDTAB is an aggressively non-sexual song The complaints aren't that she's attacking Bruno, but rather that she's supposedly (emphasis on supposedly) bringing Cardi and other successful female rappers into it, bragging that she can get a #2 debut without having to 'resort' to overt sexuality to do so. Didn't Anaconda debut at #2...I guess that was subtle sexuality at play

It's truly fascinating to me how closely some people obsess over the artists they are not fans of and analyze their every move to create these narratives that justify their obsession. If I ever start giving a fuck about if, when, and where Ed Sheeran charts, pull the plug on my account.

The real story in the Top 10 is JB - not only did 'Ghost' do the slow climb to the Top 10, but also I don't believe anyone though Justice would have this kind of longevity - especially with the pre-release singles. 17 on Digital Song Sales and 36 on Streaming Songs. it's a story about radio dj's overplaying, sure.

I also find it pretty impressive that Lil Baby has had three songs debut at #2 in the last year. Both "Wants and Needs" and "Girls Want Girls" had decent longevity too. Hopefully he can get a #1 soon. He is for sure being positioned as the next 'top' rapper. It feels pretty obvious.
Nicki and Drake both have now released multiple singles with him to hype their return eras. The most successful male/female rappers of the last decade. It is similar to in 2009-2010 when Eminem/Jay-Z/Kanye were all rushing to do multiple songs with Drake & Nicki during their breakthrough and we saw how that translated. Pair that with the fact his last studio album did insanely well and continues to do so. It all feels like it's building up to one big moment incoming. His next era will be interesting. His team just needs to properly execute it and it could be colossal. This decade is going to be run by Lil Baby, Jack Harlow, Lil Nas X, Doja Cat and Olivia Rodrigo. I feel like I may have already posted this but it really seems like all of them are in the prime position to just dominate global music. The icing on the cake has to be that they all actually make good music and have likeable personalities, so I'm kind of happy about that

Is there a reason why Billboard billed it as “Nicki Minaj X Lil Baby.” Since when is ‘X’ a billing. I thought it was “&”/“With” or feat. Seems like after the ridiculous billing of Silk Sonic and the Encanto cast, the Hot 100 is fine with being inconsistent. When I read the X I almost though it was Lil Nas X. Especially with Lil right after it. Maybe they should lowercase it if they are going to use this as a billing in the future. The stylizing of it is confusing.
Also a random fun fact: There is not a single ‘feature’ billing in this week’s Top 10. And I think this has to be the first time in a long while where the majority of the Top 10 is by solo acts. But ironically the #1 song has got to be the largest billed collaboration of all time.

“Closely analyzing” someone does not equate to pointing out an artist’s habit of qualifying their success by discrediting and throwing shade at others. Literally, EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. Nor does it equate to addressing the toxicity surrounding a fanbase and their fav’s behavior; and the resulting impact it may have on others. Ed Sheehan isn’t spinning a narrative to his fanbase that he’s being cheated or blackballed because of rule changes that occurred months ago, to justify performance. Nor is he taking moments to put down the works of Taylor or Adele to build himself up; and encouraging his fans to do the same. That’s the difference. Ed and Taylor are perhaps friendly competitors at most. That dynamic has nowhere near the same level of acrimony as the Scooter Braun/Taylor or Kanye/Taylor ones….both of which illicit passionate responses from her supporters. So it’s an apples/oranges comparison.
If you are continuously engaged in ridiculing other acts for their come up, implying their success was as a result of corrupt means - Tik Tok, “payola”, etc. -, and then commit the very behavior you were critical of, whilst crying conspiracies at every available turn, it’s a double standard that you should expect people to question when the shoe is on the other foot. Especially when your fanbase gives other acts grief when their records performing similarly. People are absolutely going to take pleasure then when things don’t work out in your favor. It’s human nature, unfortunately. (Mind you, I remember when certain fanbases were recording private conversations between artists and their fans on Stationhead and then editing those clips out of context in a malicious manner.) When you make it a point of tearing others down - even during moments of supposedly celebrating your own successes -, people take note of that; and it leaves you open for criticism in return. Particularly when it is continuous, ongoing behavior.
Outside of that, this Nicki/Baby record was a good test case for BB’s recent rule change. The implications of this are large scale, so people are going to heavy attention to its performance for that reason alone.
On another note, we are officially in the post pandemic era. I’m excited to see what the music landscape looks like from here.

Nicki gonna be real quiet next week though when the song plummets. And fans are gonna be like: rAdIo's FaUlT. Well let me ask you this. What do Taylor fans say when her songs plummet in week 2? “It’s NOT about chart PlaCEmENTs”? Once again making a direct effort to insult someone based on their pfp. This is trolling, guys. Giving this person a temporary ban should be in consideration

Nicki was my childhood hero, so watching how insecure she is about chart success is disappointing. I revered her for years.
I'm wondering where "Notion", "she's all i wanna be", "Numb Little Bug", and "Monëy so big" are this week. Also wondering if we'll see Ruth B's "Dandelions" or Labrinth & Zendaya's "All for Us" bubble under soon. Surprised Jessie Murph never bubbled under with "Always Been You"

Yeah, the Barbs should have bought more copies of the Instrumental Version and streamed it more to support their Queen. OC, that'd be the ultimate irony considering it's an instrumental. Imagine if Billboard did this 2. Do We Have A Problem? (Instrumental) - Nicki Minaj Ft. Lil Baby
