And that's not a good thing. Cases haven't gone down to a safe number. COVID isn't endemic yet, especially not in the U.S. because there are still tens of thousands of cases.

Look, I understand you're tired - ALL of us are tired and wish we could return to some sense of normal. I would love to go back to a world where I could visit my therapist in the person or go to a movie theater. But the truth is that what I want is less important than we need and what we need to be is still practice safety and healthy procedures.

If you think you're tired from being stuck at home, imagine being a health professional and rather than governments heeding your advice, they lift health protocols and don't enforce vaccine mandates before it's safe for most of the most vulnerable of our population. Imagine working at a hospital staff overbooked and understaffed because there isn't enough capacity for newer patients while trying to safe the lives of the patients already administered. I might not be a licensed medical professional myself but I've worked with a number health professionals over the past few ones and my brother is general practitioner. Not a single one of them has advised not to wear a mask or to not social distance or to not get vaccinated. I distinctly remember my brother coming home a few weeks ago, super tired from patients due to COVID spikes because people couldn't be bothered to just not travel overseas and follow travel procedures over the holidays and now we're left picking up the scraps.

If you want their lives as well as the lives of many people to be less stressful, follow the consensus about health guidelines.
