I didn't know the majority of these before doing this rankdown if I'm being honest, so had no idea this was a theme song to a show. I liked it, personally. "First Love" is so iconic in Japan that I'm a little surprised to find it at the bottom, but it was also never among my favorites from them so I don't particularly mind seeing it out right now. It's such a great sing-along song. Also their Mariah Carey "Vision of Love" moment. I stay waiting for their re-do of it in 2022, but I can also see the charm of having the "immature" vocal from the original, which fits the theme.

I love Hanataba wo Kimini partly because I watched the drama it was a theme song for (at least part of it) but also because of nostalgia. I used to walk to my job in the summer when college was out listening to this song. Idk it felt like a morning song to me.

I'd normally be sad at losing my #6 just like that but tbh Addicted to You was literally the only bad song here and it's already gone, everything else is just incredible and I'm hype with whatever gets revealed!

It was the theme song for the mystery TV series Sai Ai (Dearest), which has won several industry awards in Japan including the Japanese Television Academy's "Best TV Drama Series" in 2021.

Okay there's the first Bad Mode single out but the other better last a while! Got a worry they'll be ranked lower for recency.

The single proved to be a long hit, selling over 800,000 copies over the course of 45 weeks. The single also features the Kingdom Hearts theme song "Simple and Clean" as its b-side.

Her vocals are almost always great, of course, but the one on "Anata" is really nice.
EDIT: "Colors" is the one from the list I've known the longest.

ๅๆ and ใใชใ are awkward ballads from them with cheap flows in chorus and should be left before ๅใซๅคขไธญ which has a more interesting production from A.G. Cook.
COLORS is just an odd-sounding song that doesn't stick with me much.

#13Nothing's gonna stop me Only you can stop me
"Movin' on without you" is the second single by Utada, serving as the followup to their million-selling debut single "Automatic/Time Will Tell" (both included in their debut album First Love). An disco-infused house track, the song became another commercial success by peaking at #1 in Japan and sold 1.22 million copies in physical single.
An official cover by fellow J-pop superstar Ayumi Hamasaki was released in 2014 and features production credits by RedOne.

"Flavor of Life (Ballad Version)" is the 18th single by Utada and the mainstream lead single of HEART STATION. The song became Utada's big comeback single after the somewhat disappointing performance of their ULTRA BLUE era. Three versions of the song was included in the physical single, but the ballad version became the most popular version of the song, partly due to it being the theme song of the blockbuster TV series Boys Over Flowers 2.
The single was the 2nd best-selling single in Japan in 2007, with the ballad version being the most downloaded ringtone in Japan that year.

"Flavor of Life" is another one that got a nostalgia boost from me. Maybe it's the East Asian in me but sometimes I love a good ballad and this is one of them.

As the theme song for Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo, the song was released in the format of a DVD single and marked Utada's only musical output between 2010 (their second compilation album Utada Hikaru Single Collection Vol. 2) and 2016 (Fantรดme, to which this song was tacked). The song peaked at #2 on Japan Hot 100 and was certified double platinum.

Yeah I agree, "Sakura Nagashi" just isn't among my go-to Hikaru Utada tracks and was thus low on my rankings.
I'm surprised at "Prisoner of Love" making the top 10, I just didn't really think of it as a highlight in her discography and thought would be brushed off to the side. I don't have it in my top 10 but it's also another one of the nostalgia-fueled tracks for me so love to see it do well here!

I didn't even watch Evangelion series and still think ๆกๆตใ deserved top 10 at least. Very satisfying build imo. This Japanese singles rankdown is a mess just like the English one.

"One Last Kiss" is the title track of Utada's first EP released in 2021, and the fourth single from their most recent studio album BAD MODE. Produced by Utada themselves and A.G. Cook, the song was the theme song for the movie Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time. The physical CD single has been certified gold for selling over 170,000 copies in Japan alone.

"Prisoner of Love" is Utada's 21st single and the sixth and final single from HEART STATION. It was also Utada's first recut single (an album track released in physical single format after the album release) since "First Love" from their debut album. The midtempo R&B track became another monster hit for them, being the 3rd most downloaded song of 2008 in Japan and selling over 3 million copies (physical and digital singles plus ringtone) in total.
"Prisoner of Love" received the "Best Theme Song" award at Japan's 57th TV Drama Academy Awards. It was the theme song for the 2008 blockbuster Last Friends.

"Wait & See (Risk)" is Utada's fifth single overall and the second single from their sophomore album Distance. Another uptempo number produced by Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, the song became yet another million-selling #1 hit in Japan, also the 3rd biggest hit in Japan in 2000.

"SAKURA Drops" is from Utada's eleventh single "SAKURA Drops/Letters" and the fourth and final single from their third album DEEP RIVER. The song's colorful cover art and music video were notably produced by their ex-husband Kiriya Kazuaki. Honestly, this is still my favorite Utada music video. You just can tell how much he loved them. The single went #1 in Japan with over 400,000 copies sold in its first week. It was the 6th most popular song of 2002 in Japan.

"SAKURA Drops" is so ethereal at points and I love it. I'll take a top half finish for it as this rankdown's very competitive!
