#4. ABBA - Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight) Classic Disco jam. Covered many times and at even faster BPMs. I love it everytime. Plus they are Swedish. I reslly thought this one would have snagged the crown?

Okay, I lied when talking about "Sugaan Essena" before, I kind of regret including this, too. Unlike with The Hu, though, I don't regret this pick because I feel like I made the wrong choice. On the contrary, this is my favorite Kacey song. I regret this pick just because it was so recently featured in another rankdown (a rankdown that it won), and this felt like overkill. Oh well, what's done is done...and it didn't win this time.
Congrats on clearing your bottom ten, janinho. Mission accomplished.

#3. Kacey Musgraves - High Horse Hell Yes!! My favorite Kacey Musgraves jam and one of my favorite pop songs of the last few years. The music is perfect. Easy on the ears and very melodic. , but I really dug how she delivered the lyrics. Her Country music accent adds the cherry on top

I'm not surprised that this song made the top ten. I expected that. I could have even foreseen top five as a finish for it. I would have never expected it to spend the most amount of time at #1, nor would I have expected it to be the winner if not for the actions of one poster.
Simply put, this song is sublime. So many people point to "Plastic Love" as the peak of city pop, and that's a fair opinion to have, but, as good as "Plastic Love" is, I don't get the same level of joy out of it as I do every single time I listen to this. Even on days where I struggle to find a reason to smile, this song finds a way. When I first thought about putting together my own ranking for this list, my thought process started like this: "Okay, 'Stay with Me' is the easy #1 choice. Let's figure out the rest from there."
I am obligated to congratulate you on clearing your bottom ten right at the end, Mirago, but...grumble grumble. Also, sorry, wrip and samo🦕.

Tags razorshark Troy Pollen I don't think there's going to be a single person here that expected this outcome. I certainly didn't. But this song just kept building up momentum, and then Mirago sent, and the momentum pushed it over the top for good.
Listening to this song for the first time was one of the wildest listening experiences I've had in a long time. I didn't know what I was supposed to expect going in, but I sure as fuck wasn't expecting a song quite like this one, a song that is one long, increasingly fast build to a earth-shattering climax. To say that this is one of the best songs of the decade so far is like saying that water is wet. Of course it fucking is.
Congrats on having your favorite song win (and all having perfect top twos), BB🌕, Gonza'90, and recordyear.

One more stats post for the road!
Well, we've made it to the end of another personal. I'd like to thank all of you who submitted, posted, followed along, all of that stuff. I always say this after every rankdown, but it still holds true: I do these rankdowns for all of you more than anything else, and I wouldn't do them without you.
This will also not be a one-off. I've had enough time over the last couple of months to think about another idea for a rankdown, an idea that would implement multiple unfinished rankdowns that I put together and create one unholy package. I call it "unholy", because it's taking some songs from Red's Favorite Songs rankdowns that, thanks to the Journey series ending, will never come to fruition. And these aren't just songs from the RFS series. These are 40 of the best songs I could pull from those unfinished rankdowns.
But I'm not calling it some variation of "Red's Favorite Songs". That's too easy. Let's go with something a little more grandiose. How about...Coming Soon THE ALL-TIMERS

#2. Miki Matsubara - Stay with Me Just misses my top 10. because of slots I reserved for songs I also charted and felt more connection with, but as far as J-POp goes on on board almost everytime. The pleasant vocals have everything to do with it. I dug "Dress Down" more because of the 80's vibes, but this went goes hard on melody too. #1. Mdou Moctar - Afrique Victime Normally a song like this doesn't knock my socks off. So for the second preview I went with this live video where the guy turns on the finger magic on the guitars. That's why I decided to go top 20 with it. In the end Rock n Roll takes the crown so I'm pleased. Just gonna add a few more thoughts one some remaining songs. My favorite first time listen being "Dress Down".#10. The Sundays - Summertime About as pleasant as a 90's song can get. I think this was 90's. If it looks, sounds and feels 90's, then it must be 90s. Cute vocals are a bonus. #9. Kaoru Akimoto - Dress Down Aren't some of you glad I strongly dig on 80's sounding J-pop. Truthfully I never heard this song, but this clicked as perfect with me as a walk on a perfect summer day. #8. clipping. - Check the Lock I'll stay on that island as long as I never have to listen to this one again. I can't rate this as good nor bad, but I can safely say that it wasn't easy on my ears. #7. They Might Be Giants - Birdhouse in Your Soul Passable I guess. I started liking songs I ranked #25 and up, which means I actually enjoyed a good half of the songs on this RD. This one barely qualifies, but I wasn't a big fan of it when it was on the radio either. #6. Simple Minds - Someone Somewhere (In Summertime) An 80's iconic band grabbing a slot in my top 10. Who would have ever guessed. BTW I'm gonna shamelessly add that they have released a reimagined version of their 1978 song "Act Of Love". Sounds really great. Go check it out. Red Great job with the Master of Ceremonies duties and vids. I actually decided to start previewing songs on a slow basis, but liked every song I previewed more than the previous, so yeah good job on choosing songs with no connection to each other that being melodic fun to preview.

Afrique Victim is one of my favorite songs I've heard recently. It never gets old but the first time I heard it my mind was blown. Great winner in a great rankdown. Sorry I couldn't submit but it was cool seeing the results pile in.

I’m honestly super cool with this winner! The first time I heard Afrique Victime I kind of forgot where I was for a bit lol. Also I agree about what you were saying with Stay With Me, it genuinely makes me feel so happy to listen to it. That #40 was definitely a choice, but hey everyone’s got interesting choices sometimes 😄

Thank you for hosting this rankdown Red.
Afrique Victime is definitely a worthy song to win the rankdown. It's not a song that exactly fits my musical tastes, particularly the singing style, but the musicianship is nothing less than amazing. It's a refreshing discovery since I cannot name any other musicians I know that are based in Niger (I do know some from other countries in Africa).
I'm also pleased to see Aphex Twin's ambient techno classic Pulsewidth to make it to 5th place. It's the only song in this rankdown that I had included on one of my personal playlists (not counting Music Non Stop by Kraftwerk).

I listened to Song to the Siren for the third time. Nope, I still find the music to be boring and I don't really like the vocals either. Sorry to anyone who likes/loves the song though. I have heard Matt Bellamy's father was in a band but forgot the name. Telstar is pretty good. Glad all of my top discoveries end up high. The chorus of Someone Somewhere (In Summertime) is repetitive but the lead singer sings in so many ways, it's fascinating. Pulsewidth is just an excellent produced electronic song. Definitely an unpopular opinion but I enjoy the interpolation of Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight) in Hung Up more than the original. It feels like it adds some context. The original is a banger too. I would probably rank most of Golden Hour songs other than High Horse higher than #11 here, but I get why it is chosen for this rankdown. Stay With Me shows the best of City Pop better. Basically the uplifting theme song for every young girl in love. Great saxophone too. Afrique Victime is an unforgettable experience. It's astonishing with that build already. The fact (told by Doc Indie Party Rock already) that it is done without pick...I can't. I was really close to put this in one of the Madness games too, but I fear the disrespect. Thanks Red for hosting this rankdown and the perfect top two!
