Daniil Trifonov – J.S. Bach: The Art Of Fugue, BWV 1080: Contrapunctus 9 alla Duodecima
@daniil Trifonov explores the scientific, emotional and spiritual dimensions of Johann Sebastian Bach’s cosmos, his faith, family, and world. Centered around Bach’s late, mystical masterpiece, The Art of the Fugue, Trifonov’s project investigates the man behind the myth – a genius of humility and humour, whose family, loves, losses, and devotion inspired what Daniil Trifonov calls “some of humanity’s most emotionally rich and fascinatingly sophisticated expressions in music.” Because of Bach’s incomparable intellectual mastery of western music’s formal and harmonic possibilities, his art offers the most comprehensive synthesis of this purpose. As Trifonov puts it, “Bach’s music combines compelling logical depictions of the mechanics of nature with an intensity of human emotion unique for his age.” The result provides a glimpse of a flesh-and-blood Bach, a timeless study in the Art of Life.
