I'm still in Grammy mode. I should probably get a life, but anyway.
Now that the 2022 Grammys are wrapped up, we're nearly halfway through the eligibility period of the next Grammy season. 2022 has been notoriously slow for big hits, but there has been a lot of new music come out that it'll be interesting to see where the focus lies with next year's nominations. Will they rely on late-period singles/albums that are still to be released, or will there be a heavy emphasis on whatever acclaimed albums/songs have come out already since October? They can't give EVERYTHING to Adele.
So who do we think are the frontrunners so far and who do we think will be mentioned among the nominees for 2023?
We have the obvious: -Adele, 30 and "Easy On Me" being the likely focus for her
-Silk Sonic, their album wasn't eligible for the 2022 Grammys, but given the wins for the *one* song that was eligible, it's a given they'll be in heavy consideration for big albums and singles awards for 2023.
-Brandi Carlile, a new name to the list of Grammy favourites, only "Right On Time" was eligible from her recent album, which came out the first day of the eligibility period for the next awards. Will we see her album among the nominees? Even more, will there be any individual album tracks (or maybe even "Broken Horses") for Song awards?
Others: Encanto, Harry, Avril, Florence, Ed Sheeran, Latto, Arcade Fire, Maren Morris, ?

Harry Styles is a current front runner for Song/Record of the year and maybe Best Music Video

Harry Styles is a current front runner for Song/Record of the year and maybe Best Music Video I'd say it's between him and Adele right now. Easy on Me will be older but still was the biggest contender for those two to date.

I would think 30 era will be forgotten by the general public by November and thus might seem ridiculous if she sweeps with the noms but we'll see.
RosalΓa needs several nominations.

Adele is the clear frontrunner in AOTY/ROTY/SOTY. the only real "locked" nominee in my book so far. would love to see Charli XCX in Pop Vocal Album, but that's definitely a reach lol. she could make it if submission period ended today, but I'm sure we'll get so much more music in the coming months that'll bury any ounce of chance she has. The Weeknd could have been a big contender among what we got so far, but if he sticks with it, we won't see him in the Grammy ballot at all. in terms of albums that are yet to be released: Kehlani (April 29) The Black Keys (May 13) Florence and the Machine (May 13) Harry Styles (May 20) Maggie Rogers (July 29) Cardi B (TBA) Lizzo (TBA) Post Malone (TBA) BeyoncΓ© (allegedly)

Hopefully Avril and Travis Barker's appearances at last weekend's Grammys portend a Best Pop Vocal album nom for Love Sux, as well as noms for its singles in other genre categories.

Is Taylor at least going to consider submitting the All Too Well Short Film for Best Music Video? I know she's not gonna submit any song from the TVs, but the music video is a possibility

I really wish the Grammy awards used a traditional calendar year for eligibility.
That we're talking about Q4 2021 releases for the 2023 awards is just... awkward. Jan-Dec. Done.

They've always done it this way to get in before the Oscars, but this year the postponement led to them taking place a week after the Oscars and ratings were still a bit up. Maybe that will show them they don't have to be ahead of the Oscars. The real issue also remains that they need to tighten up the timeline of voting. The delay between the end of the eligibility year and the time the awards take place is too long, regardless of when it all happens.

If I recall correctly, it's ineligible for SOTY, unless they allow the 10MV because there's "new" lyrics? I don't fully understand the eligibility rules for the Grammys tbh.

I still wish the Grammys would tighten up the eligibility and voting periods. If the Junos and the BRITs can have a timeline like the Oscars, so can the Grammys. Then the songs and albums wouldn't feel so old by the time the show actually airs.

After the surprise ROTY nomination for ABBA this year, I wouldn't be surprised if the Voyage album or the "Just a Notion" single that are in this eligibly period get nominations in 2023. Maybe not AOTY for Voyage, and it depends on how crowded Pop Vocal Album becomes, but I think it picks up a couple technical nominations at the very least. ABBA have never won a Grammy, the Grammys love to give late-career awards to artists who have never won, and this might be their last chance to do so.

Summer Walker better get recognized next year. Itβs weird because sheβs literally the βitβ girl for R&B and not being acknowledged at all. Crazy how her debut got shut out completely. Once again with this release, she shows she has streaming power. The R&B recognition is quite different from the past showing.

Their inconsistencies and lack of anything worthwhile are a whole other world.

Kendrick enters the chat. Honestly, Adele who. If this album is on the level of any of his previous ones, it better win.

i've seen predictions of Encanto being a big contender I am shocked that it has been so huge. I don't get the appeal of it. Perhaps I am just not the target market.

Encanto will probably sweep Soundtrack and Song for Written Media but that's it.
Adele and Kendrick will get the nods, but 30 already feels like an afterthought and there's a still almost a year left until voting.
Silk Sonic already got overrewarded and their album is nothing special... I'm sure they'll sweep.

Jesus Christ... the thought of Silk Sonic winning everything with that 3/5 album makes me feel sick, but it's the Grammys.

When we talk people who have never won a Grammy, Ashford & Simpson rarely if ever get mentioned but should be. They wrote true classics like "I'm Every Woman," "Ain't No Mountain High Enough," "Ain't Nothing Like the Real Thing," "Solid," "Reach Out And Touch (Somebody's Hand)," etc yet never won. They were never even nominated for R&B Song, though to be fair some hits were written before the category existed.

So you're only eligible if you write songs for other people and don't perform or produce them yourself? Am I interpreting that correctly?

^That's how I read it as well. So bizarre.
And we still don't have a Best Pop Song category. Mess.

So you're only eligible if you write songs for other people and don't perform or produce them yourself? Am I interpreting that correctly? I didnβt even notice that. I donβt think it makes a lot of sense - unless the Producer category has been limited to producers who arenβt listed as lead credit artist and I havenβt noticed. But I also know that canβt be the case since Jack Antonoff won and is lead of the Bleachers (unless he wasnβt nominated for producing his own work, assuming he did). Either way, I hope they reconsider.
