She has a history of picking bad singles (tho not usually lead singles) so idk…

Yawn. Who cares about Dr Luke I mean I get why people care and it’s fair criticism. Hell, even I expressed my disappointment when I first heard the news. Katy should’ve seen this coming. But I feel like the conversation is beating a dead horse at this point. That’s my opinion. I’m just ready for the new music. If people are genuinely bothered, then they won’t stream or buy the music. I’ll always check out what Katy releases and decide if I like it or not. |

The thing is 99% of the general public have no idea who Dr Luke is. Kesha's stuff is years in the past at this point, the media isn't going to dig it up again because there's nothing new to talk about. It's going to have zero impact on Katy's overall standing or the level of success of 143. And stans constantly posting about it and the algorithm feedback loop makes people think they're actually doing something by posting. They're not. The album isn't going to get scrapped a month before release because the Tumblr brigade posts harder.

I really don't want any more snippets of anything. I'll listen whenever the songs officially drop because these snippets usually sound like crap and then the full thing is good, or they sound like straight up fire and the full song sucks.
What I heard against my will (TikTok auto scroll) sounds like a lot of 2010 sounding songs. Not sure if that's gonna get her back on the upper regions of the charts. But it's gonna be a very interesting project to follow.
As for Dr. Luke at this point it's old news. It's hurt the era as much as it's ever going to. People have made up their mind on whether or not to support her. Ultimately if the song is a bop most people will forget about Luke just like we did with Say So and the like before these acts like Doja started making clear as much as possible that it wasn't their choice to work with him. The support didn't seem to translate into streams for Kesha, so I don't think the backlash will meaningfully move the needle for Katy either.

That twitter post is interesting because a lot of the hype they have built is that this is a return to form/"Teenage Dream" sound. It's a tough order bc TD is one of the most iconic pop albums of the last few decades.

No one is expecting another Teenage Dream era. That’s a once in a generation era. I think the premature comparisons are coming more from a musical standpoint. Upbeat dance pop with catchy hooks and lyrical themes of self-empowerment, love, and sex.

I'd say Smile is her worst cover. I got what she was going for with Witness, but it could have been executed better. Unproblematic Oscar-nominated actress Abigail Breslen is receiving legit death threats from Kitty Kats or whatever Katy's stans are called. I thought the barbz were unhinged, but damn! I would say I feel bad for Abigail but she is richer and more successful than these bots could ever dream to be.

Yeah, for Smile, she basically leaked the entire album over 3 lives except for Only Love I think for Witness, she gave us snippets of the title track, Power, and Bon Appétit (solo). |

Given how long pressing of vinyl takes and the fact that there are only a few vinyl factories in the world, I would say the album is ready and in the can already. |

Country forums and stan Twitter are such a niche small group of people, that are so vocal that people think their opinions are the opinions of everyone. I’m a fan of the chorus, but aside from that I’m left quite underwhelmed by my first listen. The song ended and I thought to myself, “…that’s it?” Music video is classic Katy kookiness though, which I love.
That hook in the chorus might be just catchy enough for the general public to latch on, and to maybe even get a TikTok trend out of, but idk. Feel like there’s very likely to be something else on the record (I’ve not heard any snippets and I intend to keep it that way) that blows this out of the water and should’ve been the lead.
