I don't straight up hate anything aside from WW; but there's no personality. Even at their lowest points, Smile and even Witness were Katy Perry Experiences. This is kinda like Sia's This is Acting - a bunch of stuff they probably did for someone else and then she just recorded it with little tweaks. But unlike that one I do believe Luke and the rest of the team cooked this for Katy, it was just such a blatant attemp at recapturing her 2010s sound without enough tweaks for it to not be just... tired.

I think we can agree this is better than all of the songs on the album. Even Electric is better

As generic as "When I'm Gone" is, it has more life than almost this entire album. There's multiple catchy moments. Her vocals don't sound flattened to hell and back, it has all of those adlibs that are missing throughout this whole project. She sounds human and present. I just don't understand why they muted her out of so much of this.

The Target bonus track "Has a Heart" is cute.
I'm letting the album sit for a big longer before making my final verdict, but I don't hate anything that I've heard. It feels very, very short though. (Ok I looked up and this is indeed her shortest album, 3 minutes less than Smile).

This album is fine. "Gimme Gimme" is my least favorite on first listen but nothing is *bad.*
I just agree that "Wonder" is the only song that sounds like a Katy Perry song with the "All The Love/Nirvana" section being a distant second. It's harmless dance pop but feels more like a playlist of Katy being a featured artist on DJ collabs than a cohesive album where her personality shines through.
Will I buy it? No - Teenage Dream and Smile are the only albums of hers I want to have in physical form so far. Will I give it some streams for a bit? Yes, and there are certainly some keepers.

This is cute for what it is! It's definitely not the best album ever, but I don't dislike it either. I didn't bother checking out the singles after "Woman's World," but I quite liked "Lifetimes" on first listen (that one may be my fave), and "Wonder" and "Nirvana" are pretty fun too! "I'm His, He's Mine" is good too, although Doechii feels like she carries the song.
I would say "Gorgeous" is my least favorite, as it just feels like it's attempting to be a watered-down version of "Unholy" to me. "Gimme Gimme" is my second least favorite. 21's verse (particularly the intro at the beginning of the song) feels phoned in to a laughable level, and his vocals sound like he would have rather been anywhere else lol.

After getting a full listen in headphones today, my ranking hasn’t changed much from the pre-release party. My top 3 are still immaculate and the songs I find myself returning to most. ‘Nirvana’ grew on me a lot while ‘Gimme Gimme’ has fallen a bit.
1. Gorgeous 2. Wonder 3. All The Love 4. Artificial 5. Nirvana 6. I’m His, He’s Mine 7. Lifetimes 8. Crush 9. Gimme Gimme 10. Woman’s World 11. Truth

I love “Crush”. It reminds me of 90’s dance music.

Someone on Twitter described this as “Love Island cutaway music” and I.. couldn’t agree more. I find this to be pretty bad. It’s just bland and lifeless. The production doesn’t even give much.
I can’t find myself revisiting any of this really, except maybe “I’m His He’s Mine” and “All the Love”.
It’s a sad far cry from the artist Katy used to be so it’s particularly disappointing. I even found several songs on Smile were quite good so I had hoped there were some gems in here.

Quite the different experience from most, I’m sure. I’ll listen again on the way home from work.

To me, this feels like they gave us the demo versions before the final edits and tweaks. There is potential in almost every song to be great and then they just...end. Or never feel like they start? I don't get it. Like, what was the vision and how did she and her team forget how to create satisfying pop songs?

Glad this is finally out, and we can all digest it. Katy works hard and sometimes I feel bad she is criticized so much. Hard for female artists as they get older. I hope Katy sings for Kamala!!!

I feel like people have overreacted. This is not a bad album. After the first listen, I thought that it was too vapid to touch it again. However, it has somehow grown on me already. Critics are giving it atrocious scores because they like using Katy Perry as a punching bag, and now they have the Dr. Luke controversy to justify their bias toward her. This album should be somewhere in the 60s on Metacritic. A solid 3/5 effort. I just don't see how 143 deserves to be among the worst albums of all time. Is it vapid and devoid of personality? Sure. But the same can be said about "Radical Optimism," which is the 70s on Metacritic.

Honestly, I don’t care what critics say. They’ve always hated Katy’s albums. I remember critics tearing apart Teenage Dream when it was first released but 10 years later praising the album. Their opinions are obsolete when music is completely subjective to the listener.

She should have started the era with "All The Love." It's an inoffensive Prism-esque bop with a nice chorus. It would also sound good on the radio. "Woman's World" is the only truly atrocious song on the album (mostly because of the horrible lyrics).
Good songs: "All The Love," "Lifetimes," "Nirvana" Ok songs: "Artificial," "Gorgeous," I'm His, He's Mine," "Truth" Bad songs: "Crush," "Wonder," "Gimme Gimme" Horrible songs: "Woman's Word"

Stuck at #2 on iTunes behind Keith Urban. That’s good no? Considering most think she’ll land outside the Top 20 overall.

Listening to the album now and ‘Woman’s World’ doesn’t sound all that bad, I think the Luke connection is the problem. But that’s just my opinion.
Not one song is a favourite of mine, and definitely no desire to listen to the album again. I’ll keep ‘I’m His He’s Mine,’ and ‘Truth’ but that’s it.
Definitely not her best effort, but it’s not necessarily horrible by any means, it just lacks a face…just doesn’t sound believable, imo. Even the performance with Doechii at the VMAs seemed kinda forced. This era just doesn’t feel authentic at all.

Maybe because I’ve never been a huge Katy fan, but own a lot of her stuff. I really like this album so far. I don’t dislike any track including the first single. I’m living for “I’m His, He’s Mine”. “Gimme Gimme” is also a favorite right now. I like when 21 Savage collaborates with a pop artist. Is there a reason so many people dislike him?? His music style or did he do something controversial?? “Gorgeous” is cute, but it did remind me of “Unholy” immediately. Lol. I like all the dance tracks! I think “Crush” may be my favorite, but also really liking “Nirvana” as well. Honestly I think I at least like every track on this album…. If I was playing the whole album I probably wouldn’t go out of my way to skip a track. Go Katy!!

Even worse than Britney Jean. LOL - That’s saying a lot. The first part of Britney Jean? Sure. The first part of Britney Jean is not the bad (expect for "Perfume" and that terrible canine metaphor). "Work Bitch" is already a classic, "Tik Tik Boom," "Body Ache" and "Alien" are decent bops. The second part of Britney Jean is truly unlistenable (the worst effort by any pop girl). That "Chilling" duet with Jamie Lynn is objectively the worst song I've ever heard.

So specific!! Do you feel your experience was better because of this? I'm sure if I am blasting this album while high out of my mind on my home stereo or in my 2024 Bose Quiet Comfort headphones, I will bop around and get some enjoyment out of it! Waiting for my CD to arrive from Amazon today, but I have a concert tonight, so Katy might have to wait. Also, while Katy has never been a critical darling (in fact, far from it), she has always managed at least middling scores, but a 38 is bad.

Why do I think sis was sitting on these tracks for a VERY long time skskksks. It's cool tho. I'm hopeful she'll work with new/current producers in the future. BTW, 21 Savage does not need to do any more POP features..he rapped slower than the Gimmie Gimmie beat ugh. holdmecloser255, he's not bad at all, but his flow can be a lil...monotonous on certain productions. Like for example, he sounded great on "Good Good" with Usher and Summer Walker, but here, imo he's dragging it.

Based on the singles and the early online reactions, I thought I was going to hate this but I don't. It's still a meh listen for me overall, but there were some decent to good moments in the second half. The first half of the album didn't really have any redeeming moments for me imo but "Lifetimes" is where things picked up for me; "All the Love" reminded me of "Ghost" from Prism which I love. "Artificial" had good moments and "Wonder" was nice too.
I do agree with the album being faceless, the album didn't feel like it needed to be by Katy Perry and it could've been any other pop girl out there. Maybe that's part of the reason why I felt the tracks I mentioned above stood out from the rest because I felt some level of Katy Perry-ness from it.

I haven’t found the time to listen to this yet, but I will soon. General reception to it from what I’ve seen online (not just on this forum) ranges from meh to awful, which has me intirgued to listen even more, lol. I will say this: if Paris outsells her (always speaking first week) nnnn 🤭

Maybe it’s because my taste can get basic as hell, but I don’t find this record to be half bad. While it’s certainly backloaded for me, the entire album flows well enough that it makes for perfect road trip background music—which is precisely why I’ll be buying this album on CD at Target today.
Orlando’s son certainly has taste. Thank goodness for his insistence on NRO as a single…I hope he gets his way again with ALL THE LOVE, but if this album doesn’t sell well I’m not certain I see it happening.
Some of my favorites on first listen: CRUSH, I’M HIS HE’S MINE, GORGEOUS, ALL THE LOVE, NIRVANA, ARTIFICIAL, WONDER
