We’ve listed our favorites, but if I had to name a topic, who are some of the most mis-identified one hit wonders out there? To where despite having a full discography (with some sort of relevance), they are still identified for one song?
Naming a few: Carly Rae Jepsen Snow Patrol Hoobastank Gotye (a bit tougher, but they had accolades even before their big hit) MC Hammer (it wasn’t just that one song, the dude had a cartoon) Hanson

Most of them, tbh, but I’d say the misidentification is with the label itself. “One hit wonder” is mainly a label given to artists primarily remembered for one song years later, whether they’ve had more than one hit or not. I’m sure it started out literally but the people who use it may not intend for it to be a mischaracterization of the artists they use it with in the first place. It’s kind of just a fun(?) take on nostalgia and not meant to be as serious as it seems to be taken on here most of the time.

At R&B/Urban, probably not. At pop, yes, for better and/or worse he'll probably always be known pretty much only as the "Blurred Lines" guy.

Ava Max Bebe Rexha Billie Eilish Cassie Doja Cat G-Eazy Jack Harlow Lil Nas X Roddy Rich Zara Larsson Huh… how will Doja Cat only be remembered as a one hit wonder… she has had several hits the past couple years and I think they will be remember years from now… plus some of these are too early to tell… we have no idea what the next era will bring Actually lil Nas X and Billie Eilish will not be thought of as one hit wonders either

Another good one would be Rick Astley. People think Never Gonna Give You Up is his only song, but he has at least 5 songs that made a year end list, like Together Forever for example.

Jeremih. He had three big hits that were very spaced out from each other, with no songs in between.

I mean John Legend, Jason Mraz, Lenny Kravitz, and Train for example have had hits similar ways like 1 or 2 hits every other 4 years or something.

Carly Rae Jepsum is definitely a 1 hit wonder, accurately identified as such too.

But for current hitmakers, it'll obviously be a long time before that can potentially happen.

No. In terms of hits, she also had Good Time with Owl City the same year as Call Me Maybe, as well as I Really Like You in Canada (her native country) in 2015. On top of that, Run Away With Me and Cut to the Feeling are two of the most beloved pop songs of the decade, even despite not charting

I just included him because I've seen a lot of people reference one of his hits (usually "Down On Me") and forget about the other two, but I understand what you're saying and respect your opinion.

Hot Chelle Rae. They had a second hit with the New Boyz (I Like it Like That). That said, I doubt many people still think about Tonight, Tonight so 🤷🏽♂️

Another option *might* be M83. Midnight City was their only charting hit, but as far as songs that people remember, if you’ve seen The Fault in Our Stars, you definitely remember their song Wait even if you’ve never directly sought it out. Especially considering when it played in the movie

I’m surprised they remember Down On Me over Don’t Tell Em and Birthday Sex, that’s usually the more forgotten one.

The topic of this thread is about artists that are viewed as one hit wonders by the public but technically aren't. Carly has two top 10 hits, so she fits the criteria of this discussion. It's not rocket science.
