Flop. Bringing up other artists doesnβt magically make Carly Rae Jepsum have more than one hit, sorry man. The topic of this thread is about artists that are viewed as one hit wonders by the public but technically aren't. Carly has two top 10 hits, so she fits the criteria of this discussion. It's not rocket science. β¦I agree? Which is why I was talking about Carly. My post, which was directed to disco, was about bringing Ashanti to the thread when she has several *undeniable* hits. Carly having more than one hit is fan fiction. Thatβs just reality, nothing against her as a person!

So if she fits the criteria, why are you even arguing about it? lol

Kesha was huge during the first quarter of the 2010s, but in 20 years, maybe she'll be remembered as a Tik Tok singer, who knows.

Dead Or Alive ("Brand New Lover" hit the Top 15) Sisqo ("Incomplete" was a #1 hit and charted higher than Thong Song, lol) Falco ("Vienna Calling" made it to #18 in the States) Men Without Hats ("Pop Goes The World" charted at #20 in the US)

I love this thread because it clearly shows how often this term is used incorrectly. I LOATHE the term "One-Hit Wonder" because 99% of the time I hear people use the term they're referencing someone who had more than one hit (a hit is a hit whether it's "remembered" or not). A true one-hit wonder is someone like Jennifer Paige.

I might as well give my idea of what I think a One Hit Wonder is. Like yeah, I think it wouldnβt just be if they had more than one hit, but they also have some sort of legacy afterwards or even before it. Like hell, I donβt think James Blunt qualifies as one.
Though sometimes it can be mixed for me. I do think Daniel Powter counts even though apparently, he has other songs that get airplay.

Lisa Loeb. Not sure the general public knows more than "Stay" at this point.

Lisa Loeb. Not sure the general public knows more than "Stay" at this point. If I remember she had a song called "I Do" and that was a hit "Do You Sleep" was a top 20 hit as well from her Tails album but I don't think that is remembered as much now. DYS was my introduction to her music and then I heard "Stay (I Missed You)" which was her best charting hit when I bought her album. I heard "Taffy" a lot on the radio and on The Box after DYS had charted and I was surprised to learn that it wasn't successful.

The point of this thread was people who are seen as one-hit wonders but were in fact not. To me Lisa Loeb fits that as "Stay" is remembered but her other hits are not.

I just came up with another one. Village People. Before YMCA, they had another top 40 hit in Macho Man, and afterwards they had another top 3 hit with In the Navy. Of course, with the impending death of disco, they werenβt gonna get another hit afterwards. Their song Go West peaked at #45 the week of disco demolition night and promptly collapsed to #82 the following week. They pushed one more single in the US (Ready for the 80s), which peaked at #52 in December 1979 and they never charted in America again

Iβve even seen some consider Whitesnake to be a one-hit wonder with βHere I Go Againβ, even though their follow-up (Is This Love) peaked at #2, and the band had several other moderate hits aside from those two big ones.

Good point, but it all gets back to the central question of how to define a one-hit wonder. We have at least three different example groups going on: 1. Acts with literally only 1 hit (whether that's one Hot 100 entry at all, or one big top 40 hit or something) 2. Acts with 1 big hit who then ride that hit to nab another technical hit or two but that aren't big hits 3. Acts with more than 1 big hit but who have had 1 hit endure while their other hits have not, so they are remembered for just 1 song

Two that also come to mind where they have one song they are most remembered for, but yet they had another song that actually hit #1 on the Hot 100.
Glenn Medeiros Sisqo

That depends on your scope. 'Incomplete' was only a hit in the US, so he could very easily be construed as a OHW outside the US even though he did have other hits internationally.

A couple of people were trying to convince me that Montell Jordan is a one hit wonder. The numbers beg to differ.

My coworker actually asked us the other day 'Do you think Katy Perry is a one hit wonder?'.
Everyone unanimously agreed no, but the fact that was even a question is so mind-boggling and disrespectful lmao.

Sean Kingston, I used to watch 2000s one-hit wonder videos and was surprised to see him on there considering he was still making hits until 2010 much after Beautiful Girls.

Everyone unanimously agreed no, but the fact that was even a question is so mind-boggling and disrespectful lmao. Katy has had so many hits (mostly from 2008-14) that I canβt even think of which one would be misidentified as her βoneβ hit. Firework, Roar, Dark Horse, California Gurls, I Kissed a Girl, and Teenage Dream all seem possible.
