Both seem like similar songs with similar rhythms.
Don't get me wrong, I have a personal chart, and it looks very much like KMM will be in my decade-end (and the H100 decade-end too, by the way).

Simple answer, Kiss Me More had far better streams and airplay during its peak

Timing was also a factor. Kiss Me More came out in April of last year, which is the perfect time for summer songs to thrive, and was helped along to its #3 peak by coinciding with the release of Planet Her that same week (Hot 100 week of 07/10/2021). Meanwhile, Better Days was released last September and blew up the following month, and by the time pop radio was kicking it into gear, the Christmas freeze was starting to set in. By that point, its streaming had long ago peaked, older songs were getting boosts from year-end playlisting (especially the week Better Days reached its Hot 100 peak of #23, 01/15/2022), and callouts proved that it wasn't going to last much longer and it dropped out in March.

And I am one of the rare ones that actually prefers Better Days over Kiss Me More. Kiss Me More is still good though.

Better Days grew on me a ton over time and now I consider it one of the best hit songs of this year, and IMO a great representation of pop music during the early 2020s. Kiss Me More is still very good, but at this point I think I prefer the original version of Say So over that song. |

Better Days is indeed the superior song but thats just how it goes sometimes.

Kiss Me More had one of the 5 biggest A listers alive right now well that's certainly an opinion. i mean i'm not even a Stan or anything but the charts don't lie she had like 5 big hits at once from her last album plus Best Friend and is generally all over the place. Who else is bigger than her right now other than Drake Olivia Bieber and The Weeknd? Maybe not even him his last album didn't do all that well I mean you got superstars like Taylor Bruno & Ariana but I'm talking right now Doja is bigger than all of them |

Realistically, it's because "Kiss Me More" is the more superior song over "Better Days". But if I we're being honest, "Better Days" could've had the same success if it was only timed right. "Better Days" is clearly a summer-vibe song yet it was released over the Winter season and got affected by the Christmas freeze. It would've had a shot at Top 10 if it came at the Summer season like the song sounded it to be.

The two songs though did have similar peaks in my chart. Kiss Me More peaked at #4, and Better Days peaked at #5.
