Wow, is this the first super old song (as in older than a decent portion of the posters here) to get a re-release since CITW? Is it even a fair comparison, since CITW 1997 was reworked to an extent?

First old song to be reworked since "Unchained Melody" in 1990. First song to be reworked and chart higher than it did the first time around since Sheriff's "When I'm With You" in 1989.

It was totally different even back in the 80ies among top 40 songs, nowadays to chart it would mean as an alien spaceship landing on earth. This would be amazing entering top 40, but it is so so different and I don´t want this song to become supremarket music.

Honestly don't know how far this can get, but I'm not setting my expectations very high at least for pop radio. I think if it takes off at a running start (like on streaming and sales) it can quickly make the top 40, and then possibly top 30 with a relatively low threshold. Beyond that I just don't know. I could see it having a similar run to 'We Don't Talk About Bruno', if maybe somewhat an accelerated pace dependent on how long streaming/sales and Hot 100 position hold up.

And after this one hits number one, the follow up should be "Wuthering Heights":)

I'm rooting for Rubberband Girl re-release I'm definitely rooting for that to be the next single if there is one. It was remixed back when it came out to be more palatable to 1994 radio(the album version sounded dated even back then), that I can see it being remixed today like "Cold Heart"

No offense but "What's so special about this song?" Why the sudden huge numbers and boost?
So pop radio is ready to play a song with a duration of 4:56 without a radio version being released?

This woman is the most talented female singer sonwriter ever and US music charts really have missed her genius. It should have happened in the 80ies, when the music had a bit more meaning than today´s manufactured pop songs, but whatever. When Mariah Carey gets to go number one every Christmas, then why not US charts pay the loan and get Kate Bush into top ten, where she has to stay forever(as being alltime pop+rock music legend anyway).

Why the sudden huge numbers and boost? It's used prominently in the new season of Netflix's monster show (literally and figuratively lol) Stranger Things.

Well, I've been listening to this song over and over again and this is my review about it: 1. The lyrics are damn good (IMO tho); 2. The vocal delivery is nice; 3. The beat sounds like what Madonna would sing to with so much ease. To some extent it sounded as though it was initially produced for Madonna's vocals; 4. And yah, it's a great song.
So I'd rate it 8.5/10.

I can actually see this being pretty big on radio this summer, it really doesn’t sound out of place at all. So glad to see this resurgence!

This peaked at #33 on the R&R chart in 1985 and was Kate Bush's only hit in the U.S. She was much more successful in her native U.K. I wasn't expecting this to get a, full blown, rerelease. But, I'm not entirely surprised. I haven't been able to get this out of my head, all week, thanks to Stranger Things.
Here's a list of other songs from the 1980s to present that have been rereleased and recharted years after their original chart runs. I'm only counting rereleases of the original songs. Or, in some cases, remixes of the originals. I'm not counting complete rerecordings (i.e. Elton John's "Candle In The Wind 1997"). Peak positions are from R&R or Mediabase, unless the original release predates R&R's 1973 debut. In which case, I cite Billboard peaks. I'm sure there might be others that I didn't list.
▪ The Pointer Sisters - I'm So Excited --> Originally peaked at #26 in 1982. It was slightly remixed and rereleased in 1984 and peaked at #14.
▪ The Beatles - Twist And Shout --> Originally, a #1 hit in 1964. Returned to the top 40 in 1986, peaking at #35, after it was used in the movie Ferris Bueller's Day Off.
▪ Ben E. King - Stand By Me --> Originally peaked at #4 in 1961. Rereleased in 1986 from the movie Stand By Me and peaked at #16.
▪ UB40 - Red Red Wine --> Originally peaked at #30 in 1984. Recharted in 1988, and went all the way to #1, due to a trend of radio station Program Directors resurrencting their favorite "lost hits".
▪ The Contours - Do You Love Me --> Originaly peaked at #3 in 1962. Rereleased in 1988 and peaked at #8 after it was used in the movie Dirty Dancing.
▪ Peter Gabriel - In Your Eyes --> Originally peaked at #19 in 1986. Rereleased in 1989, after it was used in the movie Say Anything..., and just missed the top 40 (peaked at #41 on Billboard).
▪ The Righteous Brothers - Unchained Melody --> Peaked at #4 in 1965. Rereleased in 1990 and peaked at #3 after its use in the movie Ghost. Interestingly, The Righteous Brothers also rerecorded the song to capitalize on the renewed interest. Both the rerecording and the rerelease of the original were charting, concurrently, on Billboard.
▪ Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody --> Originally peaked at #8 in 1976. Recharted in 1992 after it was used in the movie Wayne's World, and peaked at #3.
▪ The Four Seasons - December, 1963 (Oh, What A Night) --> Originally, a #1 hit in 1976. Recharted in 1994, and peaked at #7, with the release of a remix.
▪ Bruce Springsteen - Secret Garden --> Originally peaked at #40 in 1995. Recharted and peaked at #14 in 1997, after it was used in the movie Jerry Maguire.
▪ Prince - 1999 --> Originally peaked at #12 in 1983. It was rereleased, appropriately, at the end of 1998. That release did not chart on R&R. However, it did get to #36 on the Billboard Mainstream Top 40 chart.

Cerebro and Savage Garden’s “To The Moon and Back” was released in 1997 and again in 1998. I think it peaked at 21 and then 16, or at 21 both times. I forget the exacts, but it was about a year apart.

That was more to capitalize on the #1 success of Truly Madly Deeply, as opposed to being featured in a movie, TV show, or commercial. And you were close: 21 then 15. Speaking of the latter category, we can add Tarzan Boy's '90s resurgence, due to a TMNT movie as well as a Listerine commercial! Didn't make the Top 40, though.

Best comparison for TTMAB sounds like Who Knew - barely a ripple on its first release, but re-released after U+Ur Hand put P!nk back on the map and it soared to #1 (and I feel like it is now her most overall-played hit - still hear it fairly frequently on radio, but I don't think there are other P!nk songs I can say that about)

This does have at least 18 spins on pop this week, by the way. A few stations are hopping on board already.
BUT... it's already a gold track. So with the new rules set by Mediabase with Levitating, it's a complete mystery as to when it will reenter the chart. Assuming it makes top 50.

First songs I thought of were Bohemian Rhapsody, December 1963, Red Red Wine, Unchained Melody and Do You Love Me. A couple songs missing from the list above: - Send me an Angel by Real Life reached #26 in 1984 and the slightly remixed 1989 version reached #22 - Into the Night by Benny Mardones reached #5 in 1980. It also reached #11 in the Hot 100. Then it got new popularity in 1989 peaking at #20 in the Hot 100, but not charting in the CHR Pop chart despite receiving good airplay again.

Then it got new popularity in 1989 peaking at #20 in the Hot 100, but not charting in the CHR Pop chart despite receiving good airplay again. I mentioned previously in a long ago post that I was calculating the Top 100 by adding up all the playlists from the Radio & Records lists showing each station's playlist moves for each song (a few years before they switched to plays-only via MediaBase). Benny had well enough points to have made the Top 40, but they apparently made an editorial decision to keep it out for some reason. As you noted, they let Real Life etc. back in, so it's truly mystifying. I'll ask around and see if somebody who was in the trade mag industry back then knows why...
