My apologies for the delay, y'all! I unfortunately just haven't been able to devote as much time to Pulse as I had previously done before and in turn a couple of my rankdowns had to take a backseat for the time being. That said, I'm currently stuck at the house due to an ice storm down here in Texas and figured this would be a great time to catch up! I'm hoping to get this wrapped up rather quickly and therefore might just roll everything out over the course of the day. With that in mind, let's find out which song is the first to bow out.

Seeing "It Ain't Nothin'" exit this early is certain to come as a surprise to some and a disappointment to others. As I mentioned above, this was Keith's fifth and final number one country hit and is one that I remember hearing frequently on the radio in the early to mid-'90s. I certainly fall into the camp of being disappointed by this missing the top 10 as I consider this to be one of his more recognizable hits and one that fills me up with a certain sense of nostalgia whenever I hear it.

"Brother Jukebox" was of course just one of many songs by Keith Whitley that would go on to be re-recorded by country artists over the course of the decade that followed his untimely death. Those recordings would go on to continue his legacy and leave a lasting footprint on the genre of which would influence generations to come. Later on this evening I'll highlight some of those for you!

I think the song “Wherever You Are Tonight” is a good indication of what we could've expected to hear from Keith had his life not been cut short in 1989. I have no doubt he would've gone on to become one of the genre's biggest stars of the '90s and likely would've continued to see both his critical and commercial appeal grow.
In regards to the album, Wherever You Are Tonight was the second posthumous album of his career and consisted of ten songwriter demos that Whitley had recorded. All new music arrangements were written to support Whitley's vocals and the album was released via BNA Records. Here are a few other features from the record:

I feel like "Nobody In His Right Mind Would've Left Her" leaving so quickly is really really random. Like, of COURSE George's is better-known, (and probably better in general, lmao), but it's still a damn good song! I figured the George Familiarity would help that song to do pretty well, much like the Alison Familiarity is undoubtedly going to carry "When You Say Nothing At All" all the way to victory

I could keep chugging along, but there are a couple additional highlights I want to do before all is said and done. Besides, I'm stuck at home for another snow day lol .

Shocked to see Wherever You Are Tonight missing the top 5. I love its chorus melody, but I also find the verse melody to be really strong and deliver the sad mood of the song really effectively. The verse melody also reminded me a little of Tears In Heaven.
