Little late but doesn't Dua have the most streamed album by a female artist on Spotify?

Still not over βSLOW DANCING IN THE DARKβ and βSanctuaryβ not being the smash hits they deserved to be but Iβm so glad to see βGlimpse of Usβ doing so well SDITD has over 800M streams on spotify, so it was pretty huge anyway

Sorry but my laptop stopped working, so I won't posting this during the weekends until further notice. I can post the Saturday and Sunday retrospectively if you want me to.
BTW, Unstoppable making in to radio seems the most random thing I've seen in a while.

I hope BTS gets a real hit for the first time at some point - they make great music and now that their stans are neutered and the charts more accurately reflect their real popularity itβd be cool if they get their first number one without a massive asterisk next to it - Boy With Luv or Best of Me deserved to be a hit

It, unlike their other songs, reached #1 on the RS 100. Iβd even argue that Dynamite was legitimate for the first 27 weeks of its chart run before they artificially bought their positions for the final 5 weeks of the charting run to break the digital songs #1 record.

BTS have had 'legitimate' hits before, their peaks and/or longevity had always just been exaggerated by mass buying.

Joji's new song has been added to Today's Top Hits on Spotify!
If Glimpe of us become a hit, along with bad bunny, harry styles and karol g smashing lately, for me will be my best year ever. LOVE ALL RECENT HITS

Why is the new BTS song doing barely any numbers compared to their typical work? The video only did 49m first day, and the streams have been quite low compared to their previous set of singles, i reckon even boy with luv back in 2019 did better. Are they possibly on a commercial decline? It doesn't even seem plausible that they'll debut top 3 at this rate

So "Running Up That Hill" will be able to stick around if it has enough points to be in the Top 50, right? Because it only has 22 weeks on the chart. I'm just asking because there's a chance its streaming will start to tone down soon so it might drop outta the Top 10, but it'll still likely pull enough streams to stick around between the 11-50 range.
Unless something huge happens and it starts losing a mass amount of streams, but it has already surpassed 'Dreams' in terms of oldies longevity on streaming.

Yes, that's correct. It has another 30 weeks before having to worry about superrecurrency.

It could just be that BTS are overexposed.
A big problem that they have in my mind is that I have no clue who's who in there, and it's very difficult for the average listener to develop some form of attachment to a specific band member, when the group has like eight people in it.
In this sense Blackpink are in a much better position - their members are more distinct, because there are four. While I doubt they have the potential to grow a fanbase as large BTS', they could potentially be more successful in the US organic hits-wise (all of their members smashing commercially helps, as well as two of them actually being fluent in English).
If a K-pop boysband is to surpass BTS in the future, it would need to have less members - and they would have to be more distinct from one another than they are at the moment. A big problem commercially with the K-pop industry having such strict beauty standards is that with the large groups it's genuinely hard to make the members stand out from one another. That's the case in general - even Brockhampton, where everyone was so different, could have me confusing their members because of their number.

That's the case in general - even Brockhampton, where everyone was so different, could have me confusing their members because of their number. I mean obviously the average listener won't know who is in BTS but then again BTS is a Korean act so they have the language barrier to get through and you're talking aboutnon fans to begin with. If you're not a fan of a group, why would you follow who's in it? I doubt a non-fan/average listener knew who the members of Little Mix or Pussycat Dolls or hell even the Backstreet Boys and New Kids on the Black were. Like could anyone name three members of NSYNC without naming Justin Timberlake? But if you're into k-pop however and are a fan of any groups, the number of members in a group is no big deal. LOONA, TWICE, SEVENTEEN, Girls Generation, Stray Kids, not to mention all the groups under the NCT brand, all of these groups are way bigger in member size and they all still have very large followings. By k-pop standards BTS' size is average, even small compared to other groups, especially amongst boy bands. Trust me: as someone who's met a lot of k-pop stans on and offline, size has never been an issue and more often is a plus. Also to nitpick: BTS is 7, not 8.

They are huge, even if you don't like them. They are undeniably huge worldwide, just not in the US. This specific thread is discussing the hot 100, a US only chart The Global 200 they 110% have had legitimate smash hits, and theyβve had legitimate smash hits across the worldβ¦ just not in the US. Also Iβm clearly a decent BTS fan from the phrasing of that post

I don't know about NSYNC since I wasn't around back then, but I could easily list you every member of Fifth Harmony, Little Mix or One Direction, and I'm not really a fan of any of those groups. It might be that the language difference makes it much more difficult for me to distinguish their voices, but I'd mostly attribute it to there being less people. Anything above four or five members is too much for the average listener. With Migos, for example, you know exactly who is who, and I'd argue that at least Takeoff and Offset are much more similar in their style or sound in general than most BTS members. It's just a curse of the biggest groups for people who aren't fans.
Obviously, as you've said, if someone is into that kind music or act they'll surely have no problem with differentiating the members, but for the average listener it becomes a chore. Groups like IZ are in a much better position, and are in this sense more marketable in the western market which isn't that used to big groups anymore

Groups like IZ are in a much better position, and are in this sense more marketable in the western market which isn't that used to big groups anymore IZ is in no way in a better positions lmao. They aren't signed to a big label and don't have as much promo behind them. It won't really matter how small or big your group, if you're on a big label you'll get promo and brand deals. That's not say there aren't acts on HYBE, JYP, SM, or YG, but if you look at the 4th gen acts who have really blown up: IVE, aespa, LE SSERAFIM, NMIXX, KEP1ER, Weeekly, IZ*ONE. Them being on a big label has clearly helped them reach a sizeable fanbase. I think you're overestimating and perhaps even projecting how difficult you find it to follow all the members with the public. If it was really a matter of numbers, we'd have seen k-pop soloists and duos/trios crossover by now. Think of it like sports: you don't need to know every single player on and off the bench to cheer for a team. Not to mention at the end of the day: it's about the music. No one's ever said "BLACKPINK is better than LOONA because they have less members" or "Stray Kids is better than BTS because they have more members". If someone not knowledgeable in k-pop listens to BTS, I highly doubt the first thing on their mind will be how many members are singing as opposed to the melodies.

I'm not talking about their actual performance lol (there's no comparison), I've mentioned them only because they're one of the few K-pop acts that I listen to and they happen to be a male group with four members

I don't see anything going recurrent this week, even the songs that are 20 weeks are still gaining on radio so they won't be going recurrent.

One Right Now will go recurrent (again), and maybe Flower Shops.
AA wonβt go recurrent this week, but itβs just about to peak on radio, and the next major album should knock this off.

Did you guys see Joji at #1 on Spotify? This really came out of the blue, at least Kate's RUTH was featured somewhere.

looks like this decade's precedent for someone's first hit being a solo top 10 debut is Miss Olivia Rodrigo. hmm.
