I like it and after a few more listens with a few drinks in me, I’m sure I will love it. The “I just quit my job” line is my favorite as it applies to my current life. Welcome back B.

GONNA TELL EVERYBODY.
Her first single always comes with some sort of bang.

In headphones...this just goes off to another level. That choir in the end really sets it off.
I love this.

I just.... I'm not trying to be a hater but it always feels like Beyonce can literally do the bare minimum and people will eat it up, or act like they like it. People treat everything she puts out like it can't possibly be no good, and yet this is so incredibly underwhelming (and demo-sounding), but alas.

I feel like people are expecting something groundbreaking and revolutionary because it’s Beyoncé and people are responding positively to it and therefore setting themselves up for disappointment. This is neither but it’s still a fun track all the same and I think that’s all we wanted. For me, I love all the hype attached to the song and it’s exciting being part of a moment like these because they’ve become so infrequent. If you’re sitting still at a desk listening to it, it’s probably not going to hit the way it should and that’s hardly the fault of the song. I’m excited to hear this at random pride events next month. Then I’ll really feel its true potential! 🏳️🌈 🪩

Honestly, RTW did nothing for me and 4 is probably my favorite album from her. XO did nothing for me and self-titled is phenomenal. This is serviceable. Not exceptional but not bad. I’m more hyped for the full album.

I usually like Beyoncé lead singles but this is forgettable and just average. Need something like “Drunk In Love” & “Formation” from Beyoncé.

I’ve listened to it 4 or 5 times now with headphones on and I like it a lot. I didn’t comment at first because I’m always expecting to be blown away by a favorite or former favorite when I first hear a new track. Like others have said it isn’t some groundbreaking track but it’s still a bop with some B attitude. I’m noticing I’m liking it more with each listen so I may be coming back to this post typing This is the Song of The Summer!!!! Who knows?? Personally I like it more than the track “Blow” everyone goes bananas over. I’m not sure but I do think there’s something missing. Maybe more production or layering of vocals would have beefed it up some. As of now B+. After a live performance I’m sure it will skyrocket up to an A+.. lol

Meh. It doesn't really feel like it goes anywhere, the chorus is too repetitive and looped too much. It isn't bad, it just sounds more like background music or a demo

I’m always a sucker for a house beat so I love this song and it’s probably my favorite Beyonce song in years.

It's cute and fun. With some production and vocal tweeks I feel like it could have been more.
I was really wanting her to take it there vocally, but she never does. And I feel like the choir is majorly underutilized.
Right off the bat, this sounds like a song I'll enjoy more in context of the album. Also, the single cover is fantastic.

This is cute. Not up to the level of most of what made her 3 2010s albums, but effective. It'll grow on me.

YES. She's gonna eat this sound. Who knows, maybe Kelly will be on a track. Kelly and Michelle both need to be on a track both have dabbled and found success with dance

“Break My Soul” has been added as a FYC to radio programmers at Pop and it's under Cool New Music on All Access Top 40/M.

I cannot wait to hear this song in a club, it almost sounds like it was made solely for that.

Idk but this is just feels a lot less sophisticated and well-rounded in terms of everything -- production, songwriting, and vocal. (Which means probably it's a better suit for pop radio.)

I know what your saying but I like upbeat Beyoncé tracks to have that classic B attitude. “Blow” is probably better produced and I agree more sophisticated but except for maybe one section of the song I still prefer “Break My Soul”. (plus I’m kind of a sucker for the near over used sample). Edit: I’m listening to “Blow” now. Perhaps I wrote it off to quickly when it was first released. I had the whole project but only stuck “Blow” on one mix and hardly listen to full albums. It is better and has more life than I remembered. Thanks for your post. I may have a “new” Beyoncé bop. Lol

I could be completely wrong but I can't see CHR caring about this. I imagine it will be huge in clubs and, like others said, was likely designed for it (which I'm sure she did well, too)

I like this…it is nothing new or fresh…I can list several other house songs that soUnd similar BUT it samples my favorite house track of all time so I am on board. I am slightly annoyed by her harmonies but that’s the usual for me.

love Love LOVE this article. A brilliant perspective on this amazing track. Billboard Beyonce’s ‘Break My Soul’ Whips Up a Timely Resilience Anthem With House Beats and Self-Reflection www.billboard.com/music/rb-hip-hop/beyonce-break-my-soul-review-1235103269/“The arrival of “Break My Soul” in the midst of Pride and Juneteenth celebrations taps into the ethos that has shaped dance music spaces for decades, one that channels the deepest yearning for release for the Black and queer communities that have historically escaped to the clubs to untangle themselves from the burdens of a world in crisis. In 2022, though, something as simple as gathering to dance and hear music now comes with its own pandemic-related risks. Beyoncé is still facilitating catharsis on a large scale, but she doesn’t pretend to not know how we got here. “Worldwide hoodie with the mask outside,” she raps. “In case you forgot how we act outside.”

This is the best pop girl lead single since Work. Phenomenal song, wow. She really eviscerated with this. No idea what it will do on radio though any Dua Lipa song from the past 3 years is better than this. It's got a good beat, but Beyonce sounds so lifeless in this. Literally anyone else would sound better. The direction is good tho. That's the best part.
