What are some weirdest throwback songs your local radio station has in their rotation that you hear it often.
For Los Angeles, 105.9 aka Power 106, which is a Rhythmic station that is very very urban leaning, of all the throwback songs in regular rotation, why Fabolous - Throw It In The Bag.
It plays Throw It In The Bag at least once or twice a day on this station, for I have no idea why. Like does anyone even remember this song well?
What are some odd or weird throwback songs any local radio station can play often.

Well...Throw It In The Bag I remember very well. It was a popular song and I remember hearing it lots on my local urban radio station when I was younger. At one point, people even had it as their ring tone lol

It’s like they treating it like it was a 10 week number 1.

Checking the local CHR, Paramore's "Still Into You" has been played at least twice in the last 24 hours. I have no complaint about that (and can't call it "weird", but a song that hit #9 at CHR in 2013 seems like an unusual choice for being played multiple times a day at a current hits station nine years later.

Is the station in question owned by iHeart? My now-former local CHR (I moved out of the area last May) also played that tune a few times, though I don't recall them doing so until sometime earlier this year. I wonder if the success of Olivia Rodrigo last year made whatever execs run those stations want to include Paramore's music on occasional rotation, but didn't want Misery Business because it sounded too similar to Good 4 U, so they went with a different cult-favorite single instead. On a similar note, I'd also hear I Write Sins Not Tragedies on that same station on occasion.

If one went by CHR chart positions then "Ain't It Fun" would be the likeliest Paramore song to play as it went higher, though "Misery Business" is arguably more iconic or more of a signature hit (even if Hayley Williams doesn't like to sing it now.) "Still Into You" sort of bridges the two. And they recently have still played "I Write Sins Not Tragedies", and less notably, in the last day the much more recent "High Hopes".

My local HAC station has been playing more and more rap songs as of late. Because they're a station from the Detroit area, they've played plenty of Eminem, but they've also added "In Da Club" lately, and they used to be one of those "we play today's best music without the rap" type stations.

I'm noticing a lot of similarities with other people's songs - "Still Into You," I Write Sins Not Tragedies" and "In Da Club" are all played by my local CHR.
A few others: Mike Posner - Cooler Than Me Tove Lo - Habits Fall Out Boy - Sugar We're Goin' Down Selena Gomez / Marshmello - Wolves (always found this one odd, since it was never one of Selena's most popular hits, but they seem to like this one)

My local Pop station used to play Shut Up And Dance by WALK THE MOON but for some reason they somehow got rid of it two weeks ago ( I kinda miss it NGL) here are some other ones 1. Back to you - Selena Gomez 2. Stay - Rihanna & Mikky Eko 3. MAMIII - Becky G & Karol G 4. Love Lies - Khalid & Normani 5. Low - Flo Rida & T-Pain ( i tried to think of good ones )

Not sure how often they're actually playing these, but a local Hot AC that isn't monitored for Mediabase goes a little nuts with their gold and recurrent choices. In fact, I think when it comes to their currents, they play them at least half as much as the other two big pop stations or the other big hot AC station in the area to make room for all the random gold and recurrent tracks they like to play lol. Just looking at their playlist yesterday through Online Radio Box, here are some oddball choices. OutKast - Hey Ya! MAX - Lights Down Low Sam Smith - I'm Not the Only One Foster the People - Sit Next to Me Lady Gaga - Just Dance Alicia Keys - Girl on Fire Evanescence - Bring Me to Life twenty one pilots - Heathens The Killers - Mr. Brightside Fall Out Boy - Thnks fr th Mmrs Elle King - Drunk (And I Don't Wanna Go Home) The All-American Rejects- Move Along Lauv - I Like Me Better Natalie Imbruglia - Torn (surely a staple gold for AC, but in between "good 4 u" and "Ghost" on a hot AC?) Fall Out Boy - My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark (Light Em Up) Justin Timberlake - SexyBack Panic! At the Disco - I Write Sins Not Tragedies blink-182 - All the Small Things Kelly Clarkson - Miss Independent twenty one pilots - Ride P!nk - Sober Matchbox Twenty - Unwell One Direction - Story of My Life Dean Lewis - Be Alright Third Eye Blind - Semi-Charmed Life Carrie Underwood - Before He Cheats Tove Lo - Habits (Stay High) Pitbull - Give Me Everything Britney Spears - ...Baby One More Time Fall Out Boy - Centuries (my god they love them some Fall Out Boy) Capital Cities - Safe and Sound Avril Lavigne - Complicated Halsey - Bad at Love Eminem - The Monster B.o.B - Airplanes Linkin Park - In the End Gym Class Heroes - Stereo Hearts The All-American Rejects - Gives You Hell Beyoncé - Irreplaceale Weezer - Africa Yes, these were all played yesterday, and some of them more than once! There were a bunch of other golds and recurrents, but they made sense for a hot AC to play in 2022, like "A Thousand Miles," "willow," "Take Me to Church," "Stay with Me," "Rolling in the Deep," etc. You really don't know what you're gonna get when you tune in to this station, and that makes it super fun. Reminds me of the good old days of radio. Here's just a sample of what they've played over the last 2 hours. Charlie Puth - Left and Right James Bay - Let It Go Latto - Big Energy Fall Out Boy - Uma Thurman David Guetta - Titanium Em Beihold - Numb Little Bug Marshmellow - Happier Sam Smith - Dancing with a Stranger Zedd - The Middle Kate Bush - Running Up That Hill B.o.B - Nothin' on You Harry Styles - As It Was Olivia Rodrigo - drivers license Nicky Youre - Sunroof twenty one pilots - Heathens The Weeknd - Save Your Tears Passenger - Let Her Go Lauv - I Like Me Better P!nk - Just Like Fire Lizzo - About Damn Time Taylor Swift - Shake It Off Dan + Shay - Tequila Glass Animals - Heat Waves Halsey - Without Me Ed Sheeran - 2step Katy Perry - California Gurls Panic! At the Disco - Hey Look Ma, I Made It ...and not a single repeat in the bunch!

This discussion just goes to show that the songs that were the biggest hits at the moment aren't necessarily going to be the ones that stand the test of time best. Remember that "Don't Stop Believin'" was only a moderate hit, for instance.

One of my local Pop stations played "Rain on Me" a bit as recently as a month or two ago as if it was the former #1 on Pop that it should have been.

Pitbull / Ne-Yo / Afrojack / Nayer - Give Me Everything Mike Posner - Cooler Than Me B.O.B. / Bruno Mars - Airplanes Jason Derulo - Whatcha Say Nelly - Ride Wit Me David Guetta / Sia - Titanium Zedd / Foxes - Clarity Crazy In Love - Beyoncé / Jay-Z Usher / Pitbull - DJ Got Us Fallin' in Love Eminem / Rihanna - Love the Way You Lie Eminem / Rihanna - The Monster Ariana Grande - Break Free Ariana Grande - Into You Paramore - Still Into You B.O.B. / Hayley Williams - Airplanes Black Eyed Peas - Boom Boom Pow Maroon 5 - Payphone T-Pain / Yung Joc - Buy U a Drank Justin Timberlake - Sexyback Walk the Moon - Shut Up and Dance Lmfao - Party Rock Anthem Panic! How is this weird? A lot of the songs I'm seeing listed did very well on pop. I'm enjoying the lists, but how is it necessarily weird?

How is this weird? A lot of the songs I'm seeing listed did very well on pop. I'm enjoying the lists, but how is it necessarily weird? For my list, I went with songs that I don't necessarily hear people talking about much anymore ("Lights Down Low," "Be Alright," "Stereo Hearts," "Miss Independent"), songs that weren't massive hits ("Sit Next to Me," "Drunk"), songs that are much older than the typical gold/recurrent choices** ("Torn," "Complicated," "...Baby One More Time," "Hey Ya!"), or just songs that I don't hear much on the radio ever ("Just Dance," "Bad at Love," "Irreplaceable," "Before He Cheats"*). The songs may have been hits in their prime, but stand out as tracks you wouldn't normally expect a station that specializes in playing modern hits to pay much attention to anymore. Also note that I chose a Hot AC station, so that makes the list differ a bit. For example, "SexyBack," "Airplanes," "The Monster," or "Give Me Everything" wouldn't be out of place as gold tracks on a pop station in 2022, but are a bit odd for a Hot AC to pick. *Outside of country radio, that is. **I did see "A Thousand Miles" being played, which would be roughly the same age as "Complicated" or "Hey Ya!," but ATM is a huge gold standard on Hot AC stations IMO.

A few Y100 Miami has
Justin Bieber - Beauty & A Beat Maroon 5 - Animals Rihanna - Pon de Replay Edward Maya - & Vika Jigulina - Stereo Love Demi Lovato - Cool for the Summer Disclosure - Latch Taylor Swift - Delicate Britney Spears - Circus Rihanna - Rude Boy Cascada - Everytime We Touch
They play quite a bit of Britney's catalog. Also played Baby One More Time, Oops I Did it Again & Womanizer. There's a few from the 99/00 era including Britney, Say My Name, Bye Bye Bye & Everybody (Backstreet's Back)
They still play Farruko's Pepas quite a bit.

Never knew Just Dance was such an odd gold…I don’t think my local Chr ever got rid of entirely… and still plays it at least once a week as a gold

I personally do not listen to the radio, but here are some songs my local Pop station has plays on a regular basis that I find weird.
Ghetto Superstar Let Me Love You-Mario Suga Suga Country Grammar Are You That Somebody Hypnotize I'll Be Missing You (they literally played Mo Money Mo Problems the same day as the other two) 1,2 Step Goodies Creep Whatever You Like Work It Pon De Replay Rude Boy
These are weird to me because you would expect Rhythmic stations to play these as throwbacks. I did not know pop radio still played Ciara because after 07' you literally did not hear Ciara at all on pop radio. You would expect Fergie, Britney, and Rihanna but not TLC, Ciara, Missy, Aaliyah, and Nelly. Also, I added Rude Boy because out of all the Rihanna songs to play as recurrents they go with that one....and Pon De Replay is very dated and does not have that pop feel.
As far as AC goes: Vogue Umbrella Baby One More Time Bad Romance You Got It (The Right Stuff) Poker Face DJ Got Us Fallin In Love I Will Survive I'm So Exicted????
I'm more surprised at I'm So Excited. Out of all the Pointer Sisters songs to play on AC they chose that one. I'm not complaining as they are my favorite girl group ever, but what about Slow Hand, He's So Shy, Jump, Should I Do It?

I have a super obscure one from today. My CHR played "Kings and Queens" by Matt Kearney this morning, despite that they never played this when it was released in 2018 (or any songs by him, to my knowledge) and it didn't even chart on that format. The only thing I can think of is that they meant to play the Ava Max song of the same name, but it's still very strange.

I've heard Back To You by Selena Gomez twice on the radio today. Apparently the radio just loves that song.

I'm not sure if they still play them, but KIIS always had some weirder older songs they play that feel a tad out of place...
"Dreaming of You," Selena "Always Be My Baby" Mariah Carey "Gone," NSYNC "I'm Just a Girl," No Doubt "Just Like a Pill." P!NK "All the Small Things," Blink 182 "Santeria," Sublime

The weirdest one by far is Feel Good by Gryffin, Illenium, and Daya. I'm not complaining tho. That song is a fucking masterpiece.

Here’s an odd one I forgot to mention. I’ve heard “Stereo Love” by Edward Maya and Vika Jigulina quite a few times on my station. It’s an out of left field choice since I think it was just a moderate hit back in the day.
