I'm assuming he means the record label, with the assumption that they are going to turn off airplay like one turns off a faucet.

Yes, especially considering the 2nd single (LNT) is about to peak and the 3rd single (MSR) has been pushed to Pop. I wonder if this going to stunt MSR’s growth. I would have thought with two other singles that they would have moved on from AIW by now. Who is the "they" that would have moved on? Radio and the GP. It’s surprising to me how First Class has fallen off already and there’s no 2nd single to follow up, while AIW has held on this well despite already having a 2nd and 3rd single. I would have thought FC would be the one the GP/radio held onto for a while.

As It Was is a huge hit in 2022 buddy, just face reality... and his other singles are feeding off its popularity ...Jack Harlow and his team were unable to do this so far, so sometimes things happen like that. And I won't be surprised if AIW either returns to #1 or stays for a long time in the top 10, as it's still strong.

Didn't we see this last year with the singles from Sour and more recently with Ed Sheeran that radio is able to hold on to multiple singles by the same artist without too much trouble? This shouldn't be a new lesson. If the songs are compelling radio can juggle at least two or three active singles in heavy rotation simultaneously without trouble.

As It Was just hit a billion streams in less than 4 months and is the 2nd biggest song on Spotify right now idk why they would wanna move on from it

MSR is not going to do well if both AIW and LNT are still high on the charts. G4u and deja vu being strong until the end of summer ruined Traitor’s chances of having a successful run on the Hot 100.

Not all singles or overall songs from an era has to follow the same traditional format of only one single at a time. Who cares if the new single is getting overshadowed by the last single that is still doing great on all metrics, and why would you compromise that success short instead of fully driving it to its absolute limit until it finally goes on its true decline.

We might lament that Traitor didn't do as well as well as it might have, or the same for pov or Golden or any other late-album single, but Traitor and pov both ended up making the ye and the singles before them ended up being pretty massive as a result of being allowed to go on as long as they had the strength. The same is true for the Weeknd or Doja or Dua or anyone else enjoying an era with multiple simultaneous hit singles

MSR is not going to do well if both AIW and LNT are still high on the charts. What is the profit in it though? Would dropping AIW and pushing either sing right now actually do better than AIW is right now. Will it almost hit 100m AI and stay there last when AIW will drop off. Will those songs peak top two on Spotify and stay there past AIW will be there. then also factor in the cost to promote and push either sing, versus just letting AIW cruise along due to popularity. It really is a smart move by Harry and the label to just leave AIW where it is. They'll still also rake in some from the other info singles,

Could see Rosalia finally getting a crossover hit with Despecha. It is gaining massive traction worldwide and it is on the rise in the US. I'd be genuinely surprised and baffled if it doesn't reach at least the top 40 at some point, especially since the track is great

Imagine MSR still does great when Harry and his label release it as a single and perfect timing allows him to get 3 songs in the top 10 at once (sure he already got more than that when he got his album bomb, and i expect LNT to have peaked and left by the time MSR gets the single push and makes the top 10, but still)

I mean the label has released a follow up single, not sure what else phieagles means by moving on. Especially when it's streaming so well (i.e. people still wanna play it).

All this bitching about As It Was just makes me wonder if y'all had the same energy for when Old Town Road and Despacito went on uninterrupted reigns at the top

Daydreaming and Little Freak are the 2 best songs on the album imo and they deserve to be singles way more than what they’re going for.

All this bitching about As It Was just makes me wonder if y'all had the same energy for when Old Town Road and Despacito went on uninterrupted reigns at the top I’m sure they weren’t only because both songs were ‘different and unique’ from the usual sound of the #1s and had over 1000+ points at times which made it ‘interesting’. AIW is technically the 2022 equivalent to those songs in terms of the environment of the charts these days, which is extremely sad to say but you don’t see any other song even doing numbers like it did this year…

yes there was.
more so for, say, girls like you though since it had an extended version of about damn time's run. radio-fueled multiweek #1 despite doing eh on streaming (though it peaked at #5 there, higher than adt).

Look, even if i’m very much in the “MSR isn’t very good, in fact it kinda sucks” camp, it’s doing the best off the album (besides the obvious two) in terms of streaming, and even if it’s slowed down there, I still have the feeling that Pop Radio are waiting for the right time to pounce on it.

I guess we'll have to see how it goes, right, even if we won't be able to see the callout scores any longer rip.

I remember reading those threads without being able to comment, and yeah, the summer of 2019 was pretty toxic.

I think the better question is - were there any Hiot 100 threads that were not toxic in 2019!

theres not much of a future for harry's house, as it was ate it alive, just like what easy on me and hello did to 30 and 25 respectively. That's true for the vast majority of albums post release nowadays. The gp has already churned a good chunk of their appetite of streams by the time future singles get released. There are of course exceptions, and always the arbitrary definition of what is successful. but you won't see very many singles post album that are not mostly carried by radio unless there's some gimmick like a remix to drive streams.

Last week LNT had only about 9m streams and about 42% of total points. It's not doing bad, but it certainly isn't doing good. Radio was worth 55%.

That does seem pretty normal for the top ten though.
