this is alright. I like some of the vocal melodies but this doesn't really catch my attention production wise... imagine if they went with a more guitar and drum focused production for this one I think it could've sounded more exciting. Meh.

Catchy. I dig the poppy guitar hook.

I fell in love with this right away when Alpha Zulu never really won me over. This is vintage Phoenix at their best with some extra depth to the sound. There’s a flow to this track that is transcendent and if you’re not careful it’ll sweep you away.

Yep, I'm with Prez; very background-music-y. Fortunately, my local Alt is still playing Alpha Zulu, which I'm not tired of (so far).

I saw them live on Friday night at a PACKED Radio City and it was honestly one of the best concerts I've ever been to in my life. They played almost all of Wolfgang with 2 or 3 songs from every other era shuffled in. The set design/light effects were entrancing and Thomas' energy really drove the crowd. Of course they played "Tonight" as well as debuted a pretty ballad from the upcoming album called "Winter Solstice."
As for "Tonight," I really enjoy it! I like the verses well enough, but the refrain takes me back to classic Phoenix. So melodic! Ezra is a very nice addition. Hopefully this does even better than "Alpha Zulu."

It is a remarkable sight to see radio giving them and Gorillaz free rides to the top 20 in 2022 after a long time struggling. This sounds very much like another hit.

Third most added with 10 adds on Alternative and most added with nine adds on Triple A this week. That’s quite disappointing, right? I know this is a second single so doesn’t have the lead advantage, but it’s also a great song and Ezra’s feature adds a bit of hype. Still hoping this is a slow burner that eventually outperforms “Alpha Zulu.”

Ezra is pretty unnecessary on this, but this is probably my favorite thing they've released since the Bankrupt! era.

Ezra is pretty unnecessary on this, but this is probably my favorite thing they've released since the Bankrupt! era. I was thinking the same re: Ezra until recently. Don't get me wrong, I like him and I liked his part, but Thomas easily could have sang it himself. But after a few listens, I've really come to notice and appreciate their harmonizing in the second half of the song. It's a nice touch.

Count me as another who prefers this one to "Alpha Zulu." It just combines the best of their synthy "1901" sound but with a pretty organic acoustic-guitar driven sound in places, too.

Album out this week... and still no sign of this truly taking off at Alternative? I'm disappointed that this won't have an easy ride to the Top 20 - the lower side of my original prediction spectrum at that.

I'm guessing audiences didn't respond well to "Alpha Zulu", and programmers are hesitant about this as a result. And/or maybe the label isn't promoting this heavily. Too bad, this is one of their best singles to date IMO.

Too bad, this is one of their best singles to date IMO. I agree with all of this. Yet "Alpha Zulu" somehow became their best charting song in a long time, which indicated (to me anyway) that programmers are still open to them. Phoenix correctly made sure that single #2 was more in line with their classic sound & more straightforward for radio. Add a cameo from another indie staple and I figured "Tonight" would be good to go. Hopefully just a slow burner: Top 30 on Alternative: 34 30 PHOENIX Tonight f/Ezra Koenig 487 384 103 0.369 Finally!
