can't quibble with this top 10...not sure we need 3 F+tM songs, but they are all good, so why not

21 really earned its spot as the biggest album ever. It's just banger after banger after soulful heartbreaking anthem after banger. The simple but full piano letting Adele's voice shine brighter than ever on Someone Like You is just too beautiful for words, and the story it tells is intense! Still her magnum opus to this day, imo. I can't really be so mad at my #1 reaching top 15, though. I'm more disappointed at some mediocre songs getting way too high here. Like c'mon Fitz and the Tantrums were never that good.
Pumped Up Kicks feels like it should be in my top ten, but has anyone else ever notice how unnecessary and weird that grainy filter over all vocals is? Just makes everything sound like mush. Luckily the production saves it a lot. (And that other thing.)
Getting back to the great era of Kings of Leon is really exciting. I'm glad their songs here did this well. Almost in the right order, too!

Outside of "This Is Why We Fight" being The Decemberists' representative instead of "Down By The River", this was about the most optimal realistic top 10

{WHAT HAPPENS WHEN RED WORKS AND IS NOT HERE IN TIME FOR A REVEAL?!?!?!}#25: This is my surprised face that this was tanked. I probably underranked this too, solid song. #24: I personally felt that "The Bad in Each Other" was better than this, but this performing slightly better isn't all that surprising, I guess. #23: And just think, this was the weak single of this era. #22: Rightfully their lowest, and it's also not surprising in the slightest. Still good, though. #21: This one surprised me, I did not remember this being this good, to the point where it's my highest KoL song, though not by much. #20: I was fully prepared for this to be lower, despite their previous history on AAA, so I'm glad it met previous expectations. This is a whole ass AAA banger. #19: Okay, I'm a little surprised this didn't outpace "Skyfall". Still good, just not really one of the 21 songs I really gravitated to. #18: Shocked by how well this did, to where it's their new best performer, whoa. Good song, but damn, was not expecting that. #17: Maybe I need to revisit this Vampire Weekend era, because I've never been a big fan of it, but this listen of "Holiday" really hit me. #16: Justice for "Helena Beat". #15: A couple of you are probably blown away that this isn't in my top two, but one song, in particular, has grown on me even more over the last couple of years. This is still Adele's masterwork, but if you think I'm surprised that it's out before the top ten, you're kidding yourself. #14: Just don't see how this is over 10 spots better than "Got It All", but I also can't say I'm surprised. #13: Holy crap, I was not expecting this to be anything but the highest of the three. A bottom ten for this?! #12: I am heartbroken. #11: Oh damn, I thought this had a really good chance to make the top ten, given what remains. KoL sure do have a habit of finishing #11 in AAA, eh Did I say I am "heartbroken", because "WILL DO" MADE THE TOP TEN, MY BROKEN HEART IS CURED (I'll be back in a bit with my thoughts on the top ten, have to eat.)

{STILL EATING, BUT THE TOP TEN IS ALREADY ALMOST OVER}#10: I am so freaking happy this is top ten. Legit one of my favorite songs of the entire decade, my favorite TVOTR song, and one of those songs that I'll remember exactly where I was and what I was doing when I listened to it for the first time (for the record, studying for an exam in college in my dorm). #9: This, on the other hand, is a not so fun surprise, because I thought this would be safely top five. #8: Color me Red that this has a low SD, damn. Radiohead's power is unmatched. #7: This shocked me so much that I just knew it was going to make the top ten because of it. How was a 2010's Cars song THIS good? #6: Barely lower than "This Is Why We Fight" for me, but they were about equal and great in completely different ways. #5: Still can't REALLY get into this, but damn, a 98, the hell #4: I expected the Florence domination, but not to this extent. The video version of this isn't as good as the Lungs version, and I stand by that. #3: Well, I'll be damned.
An all-Florence top two, and a fairly obvious top two, more than likely.
#2: I stand corrected, holy crap. #1: YEAAAAHHHHYEAHHHHHYEAHHHHHYEAHHHHHYEAHHHHHHHHHHHH

Okay, I'm done eating and I've gathered my thoughts a bit from that mini-euphoria. "What the Water Gave Me" is peak Florence, in every way. The Machine of Florence + the Machine are at their best, building up to an epic climax that is fully deserved. It's the best song they've made partly because it's the song where it most feels like Florence and her band are on equal footing. Given that I had absolutely zero expectations for "Will Do", I don't think I could have possibly been any happier with the end result here. razorshark, I may have missed pretty much the entire top 25 as it happened, but still, you did a great job hosting. I can't fault you for my stupid work schedule lol

With that we are done with this rankdown. These Retro AAA lists are more fun for me to observe than to host I think, but I did have a lot of fun hosting this one. I didn't have my usual facts and oddities that I usually have mostly because I am not as familiar with this format as I am with Active or Alt but it was still fun to discover a bunch of stuff that I probably wouldn't have heard otherwise. Stay tuned for 2010 which is being hosted by wheatsquares33 Also make sure to stop by the rankdown I just reopened this evening, which you can find here. pulsemusic.proboards.com/thread/211651/lego-rock-soundtrack-rankdown-novemberNow on a closing note I have some final stats for you all {Final Results}1. You've Got the Love is coooooaaaasting on the name attached to it. But the top two being those great Florence + the Machine songs is really iconic, they deserve this dominant performance. I know I ranked Dog Days Are Over higher but tbh they're both awesome and I think it's cooler that the less expected song was crowned champion.
Razor, thanks for hosting, especially because I got to discover Will Do on this list! One of the best discoveries I've ever made through a rankdown for sure, so so happy to see it in the top ten.

Going all the way to #11 tonight.40. Calgary - Bon IverNot reall into guys sounding too heavenly. An odd song to listen to, and even harder to find a place to slot it. All I can say is that it wasn't terrible. 39. The Adventures Of Rain Dance Maggie - Red Hot Chili PeppersThis song is basically one big bassline and cowbell so I immedieately fell in love with it. Easy top 10 for my list. 38. Barton Hollow - The Civil WarsI kinda liked the fact that it sounded like some Devil's Rejects soundtrack music, but I personally didn't like the song at all. 37. Clementine - Sarah JaffeFound this waaaaay tooooo mellow for me. I don't necessarly consider this the norm for AAA. Sounds more country western than Alt vibe. If you all like this than I can see why we havn't ran into any Adele. 36. Stay Young, Go Dancing - Death Cab For CutieI actually found this one to be quite soothing. Music was beautiful and the guitar arrangemnets created that swaying feel. Like riding a rainbow of melodies. 35. Two Against One - Danger Mouse & Daniele Luppi f/ Jack WhiteI have no idea who those cameo acts are, but I liked Jack White's participation enough to slot it in my top 40. 34. Paris (Ooh La La) - Grace Potter & The NocturnalsThe most Heart sounding rocking jam on this list. No way I wasn't gonna shoot this into my top 5. Plus I charted this and took it top 10. It's a shame Grace and company don't sound like this anymore. "Oohlala" 33. T ree By The River - Iron & WineSounded like a Hallmark card soundtrack. I sense a melody ,and most likely storyform lyrics, but the backups got on my nerves by pereviw number two. The music box like keys was the last straw. Also this tree song finally clears my tank. 32. Give Me Something - Scars On 45Nice to see this one show up in the top 40. This actually has a little Echosmith vibe to it. Wonderfully melodic and the accent in his vocals really shines through. You just know they are English. 31. Don't Gotta Work It Out - Fitz And The TantrumsTo tell you the truth I wish this was "Breaking The Chains of Love" instead. That might have been in my top 10. Like this one mostly for nostalgia effect. Back then they sounded like a real Neo-Soul band. This also sounds a lot like 6:AM which was a #1 song on my charts. 30. Howlin' For You - The Black KeysProbably will always remain my crown song for this band. It's a real guitar banger. I always upgraged it al least 10 more slots for the music video which I wish had become an actual movie dirceted by Quetin Tarrantino. At least it goes pefcet with the song. 29. Animal - Neon TreesYou guys are killing off the best songs on the list. Not only that, but this is one of the best songs in the last ten years. Not surprised how huge this banger became. Catchy fire like this never goes out. With this one down you all know my top 2. 28. Ãœberlin - R.E.M.Slotted this one a little lower than "Mine Smell Like Honey". A verey good song for thier discography, and it falls where I think it should. 27. Junk Of The Heart (Happy) - The Kooks Haven't heard anything this catchy from these guys in quite sometime. Forget how much fun this one was back then. easy top 20 for me. 26. Got It All (This Can't Be Living Now) - Portugal. The ManI'm not really a fan of this band overall. This has a nice melody, but his high vocals can becaome a little too much for my ears to support. 25. Dead American Writers - Tired PonyExactly the members who I thought would help me out with this jam did thier part. This was a great rediscovery for me. Never quite knew why I was so drawn to it. I know at some point I was resistent to its charm , but eventually gave in to it with multiple plays. 24. How Come You Never Go There - FeistReally can't recall anything good nor bad about this song. Any kind of boost I gave it would be due to her vocals. They are quite enticing. 23. Modern Man - Arcade FireI ended up liking thos a lot more due to poprock style it rides. I think the lyrics feel a little forced to fit into the melody, but it does flow nicely. This band certainly sounded way different to when I started charted them which was from 'Reflektor' and beyond. 22. Calamity Song - The DecemberistsThis one sounds so different to the other two which I was much much nocer to. Honestly this kinda sounded like the early R.E.M sound I wasn't to keen on. 21. Pyro - Kings Of LeonIt's nearly impossible for this band to release muci one would hate. They have thier melodies and vocals right on target. I prefer Pyro with sex ("Sex on Fire"), but this is a good song. 20. Holding On To Black Metal - My Morning JacketOnce again those whom I thought would be on my team with this jam are. It's a great feeling when you know who will support certain songs you like. can't see why this jam wouldn't get RSVP top 20's across the board. The pshychedelic vibe alone is epic. The fuzz guitars , the backups, This guitar hook is to die for. At least it made the top 20. 19. Rumour Has It - AdeleIt's about time she started showing up. Seriously I never got the hype for her. This is just an overblown percussion sounding type of song from that era that quickly became a bunch of noise to my ears. 18. I Might - WilcoI can't recall the last time I enyoyed a Wilco song this much, but those organs give it that Psychedelic style I like for ALternative Rock. The beat could have been retro style Smoky Robinson or Four Tops or even 80's New Wave bands like Joboxers and I dare say Wham "I'm Your Man" and HUman League "Mirror Man", but that's my story and I'm sticking with it. 17. Holiday - Vampire WeekendAnother fun rediscovery. Tho I might like it here more than on an Alternative Rock RD. 16. Pumped Up Kicks - Foster The People Always surprised me how a song about a sniping down kids became so popular. For me it was about the bassline more than anything else. Vocals were Alright. Knew it would end up high, but surprised it isn't top 5. 15. Someone Like You - AdeleI've gotten chewed out for taking s h i t about Adele before, but F U C K this piano ballad. Even more so for being on this list. 14. People Say - Portugal. The ManI like this one so much more than the other one. Alternative Pop vibes at thier best. 13. This Is Why We Fight - The DecemberistsJust outside my Top 10 and my favorite song from this band. Definitely give more of a pump on this list than others, but it just sounded so good among these other song. 12. Moneygrabber - Fitz And The Tantrums. The very best ever song from this band misses the top 10. I'm pretty sure one more #1 rank would have squeezed it into the top, but then I wouldn't have been true to myself nor "True To You" This was my favorite song of the year the following year after the Cars released "Move Like This". I never knew of this song being on any music charts until after they hit it big with 'More Than Just a Dream'. This is the picture perfect Neo-Soul of this era. So much that Daryl Hall just had to join in. plus now my #1 song is out in the open. 11. Radioactive - Kings Of LeonOne of my favorites form this band. I like when they go full guitars. What I like most about this song is I can't compare it to any other band nor song. EXTRAFoo Fighters - RopeI know this is loud and fierce and very un AAA, but I don't know about the rest of you, but an easy top 10 for my list.
