Coltrane did help Miles Davis win Series 1 Part 1, but as a band leader he falls agonizingly short of the aforementioned Davis, as well as Charles Mingus, in the goal of being a 2-appearance artist to win once. my condolences Trilogy, Red, newpower, and zippy 2

Congratulations to aerodynamite for your top pick winning for the third time in a row!
As for āMy Favorite Thingsā, Iāve heard different versions of this song over the years. It has been one of my favorite songs associated with the holidays, but John Coltraneās take on this song BLOWS MY MIND.

considering I lost my entire top 5 before the top 7 we couldāve picked a much worse winner, this was really good

Tank! has compositional variety and a wild sax solo but it also sounded a bit like a superhero call-to-action in moments. Time Moves Slow was a nice moody find. I canāt explain it but thereās something magical in the piano flourishes of āRound Midnight. Thanks singingrulebritannia

{THE SHAPE OF WORD WALLS TO COME}#15: Well, I can't say I was expecting this to be last. #14: That sax is overwhelming, and the rest of the players aren't too far off the pace. Wonderful recording. #13: Damn, I thought this would be higher than I ranked it, too. I know that this was a stacked RD, and yet it's still surprising me. #12: The way that this song just causes you to sway along involuntarily...I've listened to this multiple times, and, every time, it just makes me move. #11: Man, I was expecting this to be in or around the top five just based on name value alone. #10: Hard to go wrong with Frank, even if it's not one of my absolute favorites of his. #9: It's crazy how good Louis was at such a young age. This is fascinating to listen to and then contrast with his later recordings. #8: A standard that totally deserves the term, even if it's a song that I respect more than I like. #7: I said this in the PM that I sent to gates, but this is my favorite last place out of any of the Jazz Favorites RDs. This is a lot of fun, I just had to put something last. #6: I was going to use the term "phenomenal atmosphere" to describe "Acid", but I feel like that would better describe this. I plan on listening to this song late at night, with all of the lights off, wearing headphones, and I just want this to take me wherever the hell it wants me to go. #5: See, I would have been much more sneaky and not even brought up Sam's involvement and then watch everyone react while listening to the song. "Wait, this vocalist sounds really familiar." Missed opportunity...unlike this song, which is really, really well done. #4: Twelve minutes long, and it feels maybe half that. In all of the songs in these RDs he's been a part of, this might be where I've liked Herbie the most. #3: Before I knew it, the dream was over. #2: And speaking of the dream being over, this has long been one of my favorite jazz recordings. The way that it takes "My Favorite Things" and absolutely turns it on its head is something to behold. It's not as overwhelmingly special as some of the other best songs from this series have been, but its quality is undeniable. #1: That last sentence can also be said about "Take Five", which is so great that it almost goes without saying. It's practically perfect. I'm so sad to see this end, at least for now(?). What a great series. As always, singingrulebritannia, you are the bar that we must reach as rankdown hosts.

couldnāt comment while reveals were happening because pulse was freaking out on me but wow iām not surprised at all by my bad closeness lol. my ranks were probably the worst theyāve been in this series.
Bessie bottom 3 is way too low, sheās incredibly good. Fly Me To The Moon at #10 is wild, I thought that was top 3 locked with how well known and loved it is!
I have to listen to the winner again to see what I think. I rated it a 4.0 but still need to listen again.
Thanks for hosting gates! Such a slay rankdown series :)

I had to sprint out of the house right after I sent that stats post to make it to my job on time, and then once I got home I had to do a lot of mental and physical decompression. And then I passed out for a few hours! Seems I took so long that many of the participants made closing posts before I did Obviously, a massive thank you and tip of the cap to any submitters, commenters, and watchers. As much as pure love of the music drives me, a rankdown host cannot subsist on that alone. To be frank, there aren't many places in my day-to-day life where folks truly listen with interest and without preconceived notions whenever I talk, but the Pulse community does. Without you being such wonderful people, I would've stopped hosting or playing these games ages ago. With year-end season right around the corner, I am not starting a new personal rankdown for at least a month or two. I can also confirm this is the last jazz rankdown I have planned at the moment. I've covered all the bases I wanted to, and if were to create another rankdown in this genre, I would likely have to dig deeper than even most of you are willing to go. I wouldn't call it a full-on impossibility for the future, though. It's just not a priority in my mind. There is one idea I have my heart set on when I come back. I haven't even started on a rough draft of said idea, but, just to tease y'all, I'll say that it's aiming to take me back to the pop world--with a twist, of course.
