What are some songs where everyone knows one part, but a lot of people don't know the rest.
This was inspired by something I said in the songs that most people know thread.
Aint No Other Man by Christina Aguilera definitely fits. Everyone knows the iconic HHHHEEEYYYYYYYEYEYEYEYEYEYEYEYE, but a lot of people arent exactly gonna recognize the chorus.
Yeah by Usher fits too. Everyone knows that iconic beat, but a lot of boomers, and kids under 14 aren't gonna know the chorus.
Another one that definitely fits is You Make Me Feel by Cobra Starship. Everyone knows the na na na na na, na na na na na, but a lot of people are just gonna know that.
I would also argue Moves Like Jagger. (Yes Christina has two here.) Everyone knows the up and down melody that carries the song. But I think a lot of people don't even know the other parts of the chorus, let alone the verses. Also, because of that, a lot of people don't even know Christina is in it. They think it's a Maroon 5 solo song.
Any other examples of this?

Unfortunately for 1 800 all people know about that song is the Who Can Relate line and it makes people hate it, when deep down it is a great song with a great message. At least in my opinion it is. It’s turning out to be one of the most overhated songs ever.

That really sinks in the message that he is trying to reach out to everyone who can relate to what he's saying.

“Macarena” by Los Del Rio would definitely fit here IMO.

Also we can’t forget to mention Gangnam Style.

The "Bidi Bidi Bom Bom" part is probably the most easiest to sing along to than the rest of the lyrics.

The chorus of "Heat Waves" imo. Easily the most memorable and best part of the song.

I don’t know why I remember this, but there’s a joke in Saved by the Bell: The College Years in which the characters sing the chorus of “La Bamba” by Los Lobos at the top of their lungs, but then just awkwardly mutter along to the verses without knowing the words. That being said, I think that’s another one that fits here.

The late 90s Teen Pop songs would fit here- Backstreet Boys-I Want It That Way Britney Spears-Sometimes Christina Aguilera-Genie In A Bottle *NSYNC-Bye Bye Bye
everybody knows the chorus of these famous songs but wouldn't know the rest.

Bye Bye Bye is honestly a Moves Like Jagger situation where even most of the chorus a lot of people don't know, but everyone knows the main line. Also Sometimes?? Really?? Outside of people who grew up in that era, a lot of people wouldn't know that song at all.

I dunno about IWITW, knowing that not only does the opening verses feel memorable, but it’s also the second verse as well.

I know the verses cause that's one of my favorite 90s songs, but I feel like most people in my generation wouldn't know the verses to iwitw.

That problem isn't that he's reaching out to people who've had depression or suicidal tendencies. The problem is that those same people found the song shallow, patronizing, and demeaning

I feel the only part not really well known is Kevin's bridge but everyone knows the verses alongside the hook. And to counteract M5's point, I'm his age and people in my high school batch had sung it on numerous occasions

In sophomore year in class one one day, one person started humming iwitw and then everyone started singing along, and then when it got to the verse only me and a couple other people actually knew the second verse.

It actually has helped people. I've always liked it not just because of the lyrics, but because of how the tune and flow is too. Yea, I get its not everyones cup of tea. So I get why it is very polarizing, although I wish it wasn't.

That still doesn't mean I or anyone was to like that song, it's still one of the worst songs to get popular in the 2010s

Ask anyone if they remember anything about a Flo Rida hit that isn't the chorus.

Anyway, as for suggestions, it's tragic more people don't know all the lyrics to Hot Wallen

LOTS of tik tok hits
offhand, there's cannibal by kesha (i have a heart i swear i do ,,,,), zanzibar by billy joel if you're a zoomer (i've got the old man's car ,,,,), as well as girls in the hood by megan thee stallion, stuck in the middle by tai verdes, and yucky blucky fruitcake by doechii, all of whom are rly just known for their first ten seconds or so. that said i KNOW there's many other examples i'm forgetting
also i wouldn't rly group it in with the tik tok hits but more then four years out, the only part of god's plan by drake people ever sorta remember is "she do you love me, i told her only partly ,,," line

Pretty much any Jason Mraz song can fit here. Not I'm Yours. I'm pretty sure everyone on the planet has every lyric to that song drilled into their brain at this point.

I was in the grocery store with my mom and we were mutually struggling to remember literally any part of 'Step By Step' by New Kids On The Block other than "STEP BY STEEEP... OOH BAAY-BAYY..."

Hold up....that's my song! Anything by NKOTB is fantastic, but I'd kinda disagree I'd say the first verse, bridge, and chorus people remember, at least those alive at the time.
