2022 has been the year of the resurgence. Most obviously with Kate Bush's now-smash hit, but even songs like Sia's "Unstoppable" and The Weeknd's "Die For You" have now become hits years after their initial release.
The question is, which songs do you dream could receive the same treatment and become a hit years, or even decades, later? Whether they are realistic or not does not matter because who the hell knows what can happen in today's music industry.
Name one, a few, or a whole list of underappreciated gems.

It's hard to think of another situation like Running Up That Hill happening again, it's unique due to the layers it has. The age is just one aspect. There's also that it's initial run didn't exactly flop, but didn't hit quite strong either. It went top 30 originally, and the label re-released it at least once in 2012 before it hit again in 2022. It also wasn't sampled very widely, unless I am mistaken, which helped in the song not becoming diluted overtime as it wasn't baked into other hit songs.
It's sort of like imagining a single from Janet Jackson's first record climbing the charts now.
It wasn’t a single but “Cruel Summer” is Taylor Swift’s career-definer that got away. That could’ve spent the entirety of May-August 2019 at the top of the Hot 100 as the lead to Lover, and would’ve given the album the legs to hold up against the likes of 1989.
Cruel Summer by Taylor Swift for sure. That got robbed. But I will say that one actually is pretty reasonable ngl. It could happen. Definitely more likely than the other ones I want.
One being Payphone. This seriously got blocked by Carly Rae f**king Jepsen of all people. That angers me. This needs justice.
Anyway the one I really want to see is Dakiti by Bad Bunny and Jhay Cortez. It's my favorite song of all time for starters, but the main reason is because it never had its true time to shine cause of Christmas music, which absolutely frustrates me to no end. Also the radio never exactly got on board, cause Bad Bunny's team apparently has the inability to promote his songs onto radio. It should've been a number one smash.
Also Touch It by Ariana Grande. Do I even need to explain why?
Also I feel like Maroon 5 could easily get on everyone's good side if Leaving California gets released as a single. It's a fan favorite that pretty much no one knows, and I think some people would change their mind about Maroon 5 after hearing it.

Mine's is definitely "Cruel Summer" by Taylor Swift. My thought is basically what taylor said + maybe it had a better chance on knocking down "Old Town Road" by a peg or two than any of the songs that peaked #2 in mid-2019 that was behind the 19-week domination (as much as I love the fact that "ME!" and the thought of Taylor Swift and Brendon Urie collaborating exists)
Another would be The Weeknd's "False Alarm", definitely the most underrated song of his that has the potential to be a hit.
Here are some suggestions more like the Kate Bush scenario (released pre-2000 being discovered by a whole new generation). Songs that deserve a resurgence IMO. Not sure anyone here has heard many (or any) of them...?
Big Country "In A Big Country" Billy Idol "Dancing With Myself" Concrete Blonde "Tomorrow, Wendy" Cure "Fascination Street" Dead Milkmen "Punk Rock Girl" Depeche Mode "Blasphemous Rumors" Dream Theater "Pull Me Under" Eddie Grant "Electric Avenue" Escape Club "I'll Be There" Frankie Smith "Double Dutch Bus" ("hizzay gizzirls!") Gary Numan "Cars" Modern English "I Melt With You" Nine Inch Nails "Hurt" Peter Gabriel "Red Rain" Planet P "Why Me" Robert Palmer "Every Kinda People" Romantics "What I Like About You" Tom Petty "You Got Lucky" XTC "Dear God"
Here are some songs that "Running Up That Hill"'ed way back in the day (were hits in the 60s or 70s, then had a resurgence in the 80s or 90s). Usually thanks to a popular film using the old song.
Beatles "Twist & Shout" (Ferris Bueller's Day Off) Ben E King "Stand By Me" (Stand By Me) Bob Seger "Old Time Rock 'N Roll" (Risky Business) Contours "Do You Love Me" (Dirty Dancing) Prince "1999" (not a film, just the year 1999 arriving) Queen "Bohemian Rhapsody" (Wayne's World)
These had a resurgence more recently:
Journey "Don't Stop Believin'" (Glee) Metallica "Master Of Puppets" (Stranger Things) Pet Shop Boys "Opportunities" (a commercial)
In the Air Tonight by Phil Collins No Lie by Sean Paul & Dua Lipa Stan by Eminem Teenagers by MCR Chiquitita by ABBA Zombie by The Cranberries Any Little Mix or Sugababes hit

Anyway my picks BLEACH Perfect Places Hotter Than Hell Ultimate Dirty Harry Loud Places Faneto Motion Sickness Cocoa Butter Kisses/Angels 1999/Boys Sunday Candy That's What You Get No Church in the Wild Dreams Tonite Heart to Break Grindin' Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites Ghosts N Stuff So Hot You're Hurting My Feelings Dance Macabre Bat Country Bark at the Moon Children of the Grave Mind Playing Tricks On Me Bungle in the Jungle Lovesong Evil Woman
Ditto also what Zeebz said for obvious reasons
I went with songs that don't have hundreds of 300M+ of streams already because I think they're famous enough. Which is why I didn't say SLOW DANCING IN THE DARK, One More Time, Money Trees, See You Again (Tyler the Creator), etc. Same reason I didn't say alt hits like Heart-Shaped Box, Black Hole Sun, Clint Eastwood, Zombie, etc. I wanted songs that need more love pronto
This is so difficult because it feels like TikTok just picks songs at complete random. I mean remember Love Grows (Where My Rosemary Goes)? Yeah it was a hit back in the day, but who was thinking of it in the past decade? Or Classic by MKTO which is way more recent but still probably one of the most forgotten songs of that year. Honestly I like both of those songs but I wouldn't have pegged them as enduring enough for the TikTok age.
Considering how much TikTok likes its emo stuff I'll say that a resurgence of something by Nine Inch Nails seems possible someday. I think my real dream come true would be a full reappraisal of Janet Jackson, though. I know that her name's been lauded more and more over the past few years but that's just in the music circles. Some resurgence of popularity that finally brings her streaming era numbers up to where they should have always been would be sweet, and she has so many timeless songs that could totally catch on in current year like RUTH did.

These are the criteria I'm thinking about for this (and none of these are meant to be shade toward the picks other users made; it's totally valid for people to have different approaches and interpretations to the questions):
*The song sounds like a hit. It's catchy or memorable, and there's a "big"-ness or excitement to at least some elements of its sound. *The song, by any objective measure, was not a major mainstream hit in its time. *The artist is neither obscure nor a major hitmaker. No undiscovered gems from CDBaby-exclusive releases, and no Taylor Swift deep cuts that deserved a bigger platform. (Besides, Swift's fanbase does an excellent job keeping at least one non-singles from her catalog "trending" at all times.) *The song has to be mainstream pop adjacent, but not a straight-up pop song. Pop-leaning rock, pop-leaning alternative, pop-leaning country... you get the idea.
My initial pics:
— "Fidelity" by Regina Spektor — "Cough Syrup" by Young the Giant — "Uh Huh" by Julia Michaels — "Shake it Out" by Florence + The Machine — "Hook" by Blues Traveler — "Houdini" by Foster the People

Any chance you're a fan of the excellent "Hit Parade" podcast? The most recent episode on "Legacy Hits" addresses all three of these songs in particular. I think everyone who's ever been alive knows these songs, despite the fact that they weren't hits in their day.

Yeah I was gonna say, the possibilities for this based on what I could suggest are endless. Though “Fidelity” was one that came to mind early on, mostly because Regina is of a similar sound to Kate. Add to that something from Tori too. And Sarah Slean, though she might be too obscure but she has songs that fit a dramatic nature that could go viral in the right situation. Or “I Hate The Way” by Polly Scattergood.
“Hook” was already a pretty big hit though in 1996.

I guess I was just too young at the time to realize "Hook" was a hit! It's certainly been overshadowed by their larger hit in the time since.
I thought about Tori as well; she's probably the most blatantly Kate Bush-influenced artist of her class. I'm not sure which of her songs would be the most likely candidate; probably "Cornflake Girl" or "Crucify."
In a perfect world "Best Part" by H.E.R. and Daniel Caesar would've SMASHED on the charts it has the streams to back it up but it so deserved to do better on the Hot 100

Oh my God why I forgot mentioning this perfection of a song :'( Thanks for mentioning that wrip , "Best Part" is a legit hit for me
