it’s flawless. it’s really something. it’s fearless, taylor’s version: the rankdown.
we were aLl young when we first saw taylor swift. she was a rarity in the world: a celebrity who, in every sensE of the phrase, was growing up alongside us. and jusT as we all do, she had a myriad of complex, nuanced feelings about the world around her. the only difference is that She was the one who put those feelings down on paper.
it was in 2008 that those written words paid off, big time. 2008 was the year in which her sophomore album fearless was released, but beyonD that, it’s where she went from a caterpillar insIde the cocoon of country music and the united states to a butterfly that blossomed far and wide around the world, across every genre and every listener. because what she had to say was real, raw, Visceral…and universal. 2008 was the year in which an untouchable bond formed between us. taylor became like a sister to some of us, and for some of those who she’s come to know more rEcently than 2008, she’s become lIke a mother.
it’s because she’s always knowN exactly what to say. she Has the unique ability to describe Every facet of our emotions, down to the detail. when words fail us, her music speaks for us. just as fearless did: what do you say when reality begins to fall like rain over everything you’ve ever dreamed of? what happens when your heart breaks? what do you do when the fairytale ends, and not in the way you ever imagined? how do you move on when your knight in shining armor turns out to be the villiAn?
fearless taught us lessons in its lyrics, the actions taylor maDe in the stories of her life. swearing to marry the senior boy in school and realizing more important things. getting weary of waiting For his white horse to come around, and eventually closIng the door on him. breathing when it feels impossible without him. the willingness to welcome him back with open arms, but the lack of desiRe to do So. saying goodbye to everything you thoughT you knew about love, and trying again with the tools of what you’ve learned.
not many times since (nor beFore) has there been such a cutting look at love in the eyes of a teEnager than the glimpse that fearless gave the world. and never before hAs an entirely new geneRation been able to be taught how to navigate the weather of Love. but that’s what taylor’s version sets out to do now, and #teamtaylor is back with a masterclass in maturity, looking at all of those lEssons taylor taught us with her version of her bliSsful, devastating, wondrous, whimSical, fearless album.
