Girl you got me excited seeing this thread. I thought we had official word. Normally one is supposed to wait for that before creating a thread I believe, unless there is some other sort of information from an official source, and a playlist from a conglomerate like Apple Music seemed to be official, so I decided to go ahead and make the thread. Hope I didn’t jump the gun!

If this is the single, I'm still a bit nervous about its potential. I'm not sure its the most radio friendly (Burn or Crazy Angels would have been great), but could still see it doing okay. It's just a coin toss what connects

And even if it’s not, no big deal..we just delete the thread and move on lol it’s not like you’re just posting some random song…you’ve got lots of evidence and we’ve all been talking about it for a couple weeks now as if it’s already been decided :) I’m excited though! It was never really one I considered as a possibility but the more I’ve listened to it, the more I’ve come to really really like it! And I think a really good upbeat song is just what Carrie needs right now on radio. Then bring on CA and VH next!

I think this one seems tailor made for radio and concert sing alongs.

I would've picked "Velvet Heartbreak" or "Burn" over this one, but "Hate My Heart" is still one of the better single options on the record they could've gone with next, and I imagine it will do very well.

It’s…fine. Uninspired and safe. It’ll fit right in on country radio.
Works better as an album track than a standalone, for me, but as a CU fan I’ve become very used to her/her team squandering potential smashes in exchange for moderate successes.

I was more annoyed with Ghost Story being a single and taking up a single slot than this. Ghost Story was pretty boring imo, whereas this is such a sing a long, and not like anything else in her discography, in a good way.

I enjoy “Hate My Heart” a lot, but to me, the smashes from this album are “Burn”, “Pink Champagne”, and “Velvet Heartbreak”. I think “Hate My Heart” is a fine choice for a single, but it feels more like a 4th single than a second single coming off a lead single that didn’t move the needle as much as it needed to. I get why they went with an uptempo, that was the correct choice but over VH and especially PC? Disagree with that.
I’ll happily eat crow if this turns into a big hit, but I’m not sure that’ll happen. I feel like at best, this performs like “Southbound”, which is fine, but it does nothing to get casual listeners interested in Carrie.

I enjoy Hate My Heart a lot for its singalong ability, but it does not feel like something that’ll move the needle for Carrie and her album, i.e., Southbound. Velvet Heartbreak, Pink Champagne, and even Crazy Angels all feel like a higher payoff as a single than this one does. I hope to be wrong though, especially when there’s probably only one more single after this and it’d suck to have two wasted slots when there are other songs with bigger potential (imo)...

I’m not as certain as a lot of y’all are about this being a hit. I feel radio would think it’s too loud, but I wouldn’t say it’s impossible for it to do well.

I actually hate this one, and I really like the album. “Burn”, to me, is the smash hit of the album but both “Velvet Heartbreak” and “Pink Champagne” sound like hits, and I expected PC second, Burn third, VH last. Now (at least) one will not be a single.
This is just a bunch of loud noise and she screams the chorus. It’s probably my second least favorite after the title track. It’s a shame because this album is SO good.

This should easily out-peak GS. Excluding “Southbound,” I wouldn’t say any of Carrie’s recent singles have really fit Country radio sonically. HMH actually sounds like Country radio in 2022 (I’m sure the HARDY co-write plays a lot into that).
Is this going to move the needle beyond Country radio? I’m not sure, but we haven’t had a rocker like this from Carrie in a while. I think the GP is hungry for this side of her again.
I probably prefer “Velvet Heartbreak” just because it’s all around the more interesting song, but I can see HMH connecting with more demographics. “Pink Champagne” would test terribly and get dropped by programmers right outside of the Top 10. If they wanted tempo, this is probably the right choice.
In conclusion:

Finally got around to listen to this and while I do think this is better than "Ghost Story" marginally at least, I don't care for it that much and this feels like a song meant to be single #4 and a pure placeholder at best. Maybe this will do well but something about this song just feels off and for me it's Carrie's voice on the chorus? Like I have listened to this twice and something isn't clicking with me, and her vocals on the chorus is probably the first thing that stand out to me for why it is not working for me.
I am curious how much buzz will be with this single (assuming it's the next single since it actually hasn't been officially announced) in the streaming/sales side regardless.

Hmmm... this is more divisive than I thought it would be here. But since the label screwed up the single order right from the beginning they now have no choice but to release a tempo song on Ghost Story's heels. It was either going to be Hate My Heart, Velvet Heartbreak or Pink Champagne. Since PC would have shined as a pre-release hype song but not as a radio single, I suppose the driving beat and energy of HMH is the best of the two remaining options.
That PC and Burn will now never be released is damn shame. I can now only hope that She Don't Know will wrap up this neutered era.

“Burn” should be the second single.

This lack of appreciation for Velvet Heartbreak is disturbing my spirit. That hook is tailor made for singing at the top of your lungs in the car!

Honestly, this wouldn’t have been my first choice for single 2, but this sounds like a song that should do well on country radio. Another top 10 for her easily. They better not mess up by not releasing Burn though. That has smash written all over it.

Not sure if I like this choice. Good idea to be going with an uptempo tune, but I was really hoping for Crazy Angels. Hopefully this will be followed up by Velvet Heartbreak.

I can see this doing well on radio and this is in my top half of my album ranking, but knowing this is getting the single treatment over songs like Burn, She Don’t Know, and Velvet Heartbreak is frustrating.

I’m starting to think Burn and VH will in fact still both be singles after HMH. GS was the lead, then D&R, CA, and SDK got the promotional pre-release single spots, PC got the late-night live performance spot plus was in some Apple and Spotify playlists, and I think we can all agree PEE, Garden, Faster, and WW aren’t going to be singles….that leaves Burn and VH as the last two singles! Plus they’re also VIP package names for the tour which I also think increases their chances!

I know it's been said before, but unless one of these singles flies up the chart (or flops and they pivot to a new single) I can't imagine this album going 4 singles deep. That means single 2 would peak in March 2023. The third single September 2023. And the 4th single March 2024. I can't imagine that happening. That's a 3 year time frame for an era that's off to a very lukewarm (cool) start.

You're talking late 2023 when the 4th single would peak. That's a 2.5 year time frame for an era that's off to a very cool start. I haven’t followed other artists on the radio too closely lately…are most artists only getting 3 singles these days? I guess with Carrie, she has never had less than 4 singles during any one album era, so I just hope it stays that way! 🤞

'Burn' is personally my favourite track off of 'Denim & Rhinestones' but I really do not think it would fare well on country radio? For some reason I cannot help but feel it would suffer the same way 'Drinking Alone' did .. fan favourite that stalls outside the top ten.
'Ghost Story' did it's job to peak higher than 3/4 singles of 'Cry Pretty', chart for 20-weeks on the BB 100 and help Carrie regain some airplay traction. I think 'Hate My Heart' is a safe second choice and sounds like a lot of the songs on country radio right now. For single number three I am more team 'She Don't Know' or 'Velvet Heartbreak'. Should either single number two, or three, fly up the charts.. 'Pink Champagne' would be a great summer single. However, I also would not be opposed to Carrie "remixing" one of the tracks to become a duet and released to radio. Again, that's hopeful thinking though.

I think “Burn” will go to radio at some point. She knows it’s a fan favorite and commented on it being the fan favorite during the release show. The only casualty I’m worried about is “Velvet Heartbreak,” which I’m worried will get left unreleased, which sucks cause it’s my favorite from the album.

I am a little bit confused that the prevailing narrative so far is that this is some kind of uptempo song with a driving beat, that needed to be released after wasting the first single slot on a ballad like "Ghost Story"......when GS has a tempo of 143 bpm, and this one is only at 75 bpm Like, it's literally almost half the speed of the lead single. There is nothing "driving" about this beat. In musician terms, this falls within the range of the tempo label "Adagio", which is defined as "slow with great expression" 😂 Like, this doesn't even pretend to be an uptempo. To look at the speeds of all the songs that are commonly being thrown around as potential single options, "Burn" is at 79 bpm, "Velvet Heartbreak" is at 78, "Pink Champagne" is at 110, and "She Don't Know" is 182. So if they're filling this spot based on tempo, they failed, because literally every song that we seem to want is faster than "Hate My Heart" (even if the former two are only barely). Now, if we're referring to it having a sing-along chorus that will go over well in a live setting, that is definitely a valid possibility. But it has nothing to do with the tempo, lmao. In fact, this could very likely end up being the SLOWEST single of this era.
