Iโm pleasantly surprised and impressed that the results havenโt leaked online. This time last year I already knew most of the winners.

Can't believe the show finished already. It felt so short this year.

I know this might not be the most popular thing to say, but Iโm going to say it.
I love Beyoncรฉ DOWN (like, sheโs pretty much my artist of the year), but her not showing up to these shows is really starting to bother me. Bet your bottom dollar sheโll be at the GRAMMYs. She won all those Soul Train awards and couldnโt even tape a thank you speech. Album of the Year from a black institution (even though BET is mostly run by white people now, not sure about Soul Train) should mean a lot to her in this third decade of her career, but it appears her appreciation is very lax and been there, done that.
Itโs upsetting because she deserved all those awards, but I wouldโve rather seen other black women win, who actually need that support as opposed to someone who can barely bother to show up or record a message year after year of collecting multiple awards. Black institutions need to move on from checking the box of Beyoncรฉ just because sheโs Beyoncรฉ. Sheโs an excellent masterclass and teacher in her field, but there are other great artists, too. She monopolizes the genre of R&B too easily at these award shows at the cost of not lifting other black women up, to give them a platform to rise behind the trail she has blazed.
That said, yes, she should attend the GRAMMYs. But why are the award shows made for us (black people) always low on her priority list? I know weโre not allowed to question anything Queen Bey does, but I want answers anyway.
The Soul Train Awards, BET Awards and NAACP Awards struggle because once black artists make it in white spaces, they stop showing up. Only a small few that have had colossal success actually think those shows are worth dressing up for. It pisses me off because even at the peak of her popularity Whitney Elizabeth Houston rarely missed a show created to celebrate us.
