The best year for R&B! I grew up with these classics, some I've forgotten about, but glad for the rehash of memories in this rank down.

Today's extras are from The Bodyguard soundtrack. The follow-up to her #1 smash "I Will Always Love You" was a cover of a 1978 hit by Chaka Khan. Produced by Narada Michael Walden, David Cole, and Robert Clivillés, it topped the dance chart and peaked at #5 on the R&B chart and #4 on the Hot 100. It was nominated for a Grammy for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance.
The music video features cameos by Chaka, Valerie Simpson, TLC, Martha Wash, and her mother Cissy. It won an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Music Video.
I'm Every Woman - Whitney Houston
Her next single, produced and co-written by David Foster, topped the AC chart, peaked at #4 on the R&B and Hot 100 charts, and hit #1 in Canada. It was nominated for an Oscar for Best Original Song and was nominated for a Soul Train Award for Best Female R&B Single.
I Have Nothing - Whitney Houston
This single was also produced by David Foster. Peaking at #31 on the R&B and Hot 100 charts, it was also received an Oscar nomination for Best Original Song. It was originally intended to be a breakup song, but The Bodyguard director Mick Jackson, despite liking it, wanted it to be a love song, so it was rewritten except for the title.

All 3 were deserving of num.1 placement. Well possibly not one. Maybe “Run To You” wasn’t for the RnB format?

These throwbacks are all so nice (Whitney, TLC, Prince, En Vogue). The 1990s were a great time to grow up, what a time to be alive! I miss all of that good R&B and hip-hop music.
It's 'funny' Whitney had two singles in a row that both peaked in the same spots on R&B and the Hot 100.
