Formed in Sacramento, California, DRS (which stands for Dirty Rotten Scoundrels) were signed to Capitol Records under MC Hammer's talent production company Roll Wit It Entertainment. Their first single, "Gangsta Lean" was their biggest hit and only Hot 100 entry. It was sampled in Juelz Santana's "This Is For My Homies".

13. Knockin' Da Boots - H-Town

BABY-MAKIN' MUSIC ALERT!

Formed in Houston, the aptly titled H-Town consisted of twin brothers Keven "Dino" and Solomon "Shazam" Conner and Darryl "G.I." Jackson. Orignally known as The Gents, they got their big break when they auditioned for Luke Campbell (of 2 Live Crew), who signed them to his label Luke Records. Their first charted single, "Knockin' Da Boots", was the lead single from their debut studio album Fever For Da Flavor. It went to become one of the biggest hits of 1993, peaking inside the Top 5 on the Hot 100, and helped them win a Soul Train Award for Best R&B/Soul Or Rap New Artist. It samples the Zapp song "Be Alright".

12. Whoomp! (There It Is) - Tag Team

Although they met as high school students in Denver, DC The Brain Supreme and Steve Rolln didn't form Tag Team until after they moved to Atlanta. After "Whoomp! (There It Is)" was recorded, DC, who was working as a DJ at the gentleman's club Magic City, played it for the audience and received a positive response. Months later the song was released and went to become an absolute smash, finishing as Billboard's second biggest pop hit of 1993 and becoming a fixture at sporting events. It samples Kano's italo disco classic "I'm Ready".

Discovered by Keith Sweat, Atlanta-based Silk scored a huge hit with "Freak Me". Released as the second single from their debut album Lose Control, it topped both the R&B and Hot 100 charts and was certified platinum. British boy band Another Level covered the song in 1998.
