Sam Smith currently has the #1 song on the Hot 100, Unholy ft. Kim Petras. It has now peaked higher than Sam’s next highest song, Stay With Me, which peaked at #2 and is also considered by many as their signature song. I still consider SWM as Sam’s signature song at the moment, but am curious if that will change over time and Unholy will eventually be remembered by more. What do you guys think?

Unholy is far closer the style of Kim Petras than it is Sam Smith. If anything, it will probably be considered her signature song (or at least signature hit), not Sam’s.
As for Sam’s signature song, it will probably remain Stay With Me for years to come.

yes and no. I think it's going to be the most memorable, signature song of the Sam Smith renaissance (their career after their first two sappy albums). but I think older folks will still mainly remember them for "Stay with Me," "Too Good at Goodbyes" and "I'm Not the Only One" before "Unholy."

I also think for younger generations yes, but for older generations it will be Stay With Me.

I think so, specially if this sound becomes more prominent through their career.

Waaaay too early to actually tell, but with how massive "Unholy" has already become worldwide and with it being a groundbreaking moment (in a similar way to Lil Nas X's big breakthrough), I can absolutely see this becoming the token Sam Smith hit years down the road.

It might be, depending on who you ask. For now, I reckon "Stay with Me" remains their signature song.

It's interesting because I think it could become his most popular/remembered song, but he's so associated with ballads that "Unholy" isn't going to be how people remember him unless he really changes his style moving forward and has more success with it.
