#1 on the Hot 100 and #5 in the UK. This is a classic.
Memorably covered by Freddie Mercury in 1987.

The Platters were an outstanding group that had several all-time classics. Tony Williams no doubt was one of the best authentic vocalists, not just in the 1950s, but of all time.
Freddie Mercury put a nice personal spin on TGP.

Had this song randomly stuck on my mind this morning. I remember my dad used to play this song when I was younger. A classic indeed.
This also peaked at #1 R&B.

one of the best songs by maybe the best group of the 50's. the song actually only reached #2 on Billboard's best selling chart which i think was the most followed chart at that time . the top 100 which it hit #1 on was the forerunner to the Hot 100 but was not considered the official chart at that time. The Platters had two other songs My Prayer and Twilight Time which hit #1 on the best selling chart and Smoke Gets In Your Eyes which reached #1 on the Hot 100.
