Surprised there is no thread for this one. It was released on November 17, 1992 by Arista Records. Whitney and Clive Davis were executive producers on the soundtrack. In the United States, the album gave Houston the distinction of having the most weeks at number one by a female artist on the Billboard 200, holding that record for 19 years until being surpassed by Adele's 21. The Bodyguard is certified Diamond by the RIAA, which gives Whitney three Diamond selling albums. It became the first album verified by the Nielsen Soundscan to sell over 1 million copies within a single week. At one point, the album was selling over a million copies per week for several weeks in a row. With sales of over 45 million copies worldwide, The Bodyguard is the best selling soundtrack of all time, best selling album by a woman, and best selling album of the decade. It won a Grammy for Album of the Year. What are your fave tracks from the soundtrack? Mines are I Have Nothing, Rum To You, and I'm Every Woman. "I Will Always Love You" #1 R&B, #1 A/C, #1 Mainstream Top 40, #1 R&B/Hip Hop Airplay, #1 Rhythmic "Someday I'm Coming Back" #10 U.K. "I'm Every Woman" #4 Hot 100, #5 R&B/Hip Hop, #26 A/C, #1 Dance Club Songs, #3 Mainstream Top 40, #11 Rhythmic "I Have Nothing" #4 Hot 100, #1 A/C, #4 R&B/Hip Hop, #3 Mainstream Top 40, #4 Rhythmic "Run To You" #31 Hot 100, #10 A/C, #31 R&B, #32 Mainstream Top 40 "Queen of The Night" #1 Dance Club Songs, #36 Radio Songs, #47 R&B/Hip Hop Airplay

A lot of things bug me about this album, like how it's treated as a Whitney album even though she only sings half of the songs. I of course recognize it was mostly a success because of her songs, but there were singles by other artists released (you show Lisa's song was a UK top 10, and "It's Gonna Be A Lovely Day" went top 40 in the U.S.). I'm also just a very technical person, and it's not just a Whitney album.
Anyway my favorite song is easily "I Have Nothing." I don't even really use any of the other songs, though if I had to pick a second favorite it would be "I'm Every Woman."

My favorite is "I Have Nothing" too. Actually, it's one of my favorite Whitney songs in her entire discography.

This is one of the first albums I remember listening to as a kid. I even remember that the copy my mom got for Christmas that year was defective and we had to go to Zellers to exchange it, lol.
It's remembered as a Whitney album for sure, but that's also how it was marketed too. Her version of Dolly's "I Will Always Love You" is pretty iconic - one of the best covers of all time.

I was always a fan of Whitney’s but became a mega fan during the “I’m Your Baby Tonight” era. So at 14/15 I was loving the success of “The Bodyguard”. I had heard an early preview of the movie and they used “I Have Nothing” in it. So I was waiting for this Soundtrack. It instantly became a favorite!! When “I Will Always Love You” came out I actually was slightly disappointed. I was only into the last chorus…. That changed quickly but for awhile I preferred “I Have Nothing” and maybe even “Run To You” over it. I instantly loved “Queen Of The Night” and “I’m Every Woman” too. However when radio dabbled with “ QOTN” I believe it was the dance version of the song they played. Well in Boston that’s what they played. I never really personally loved it. I think the original is a lot funkier. I didn’t hate any of the other tracks on the album. Though at the time I only gave the Lisa Stansfield and Soul System any love. Over the years I got more into the Aaron Neville with Kenny G track and realized the rest of the album is solid but Whitney just over powered them at the time for me. Plus I was a new teenage “Stan” and was so up Whitney’s butt I didn’t give the other tracks a chance I guess or they were a little mature??
