Fifth studio album released by J Records on October 3, 2006. Producers include Missy Elliott, Bryan Michael Cox, Jermaine Dupri, and The Underdogs, Tank, LRoc, Swizz Beatz, and Sean Garrett. The Makings of Me debuted at number eight on the US Billboard 200 and topped the Billboard's Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart β becoming her first album to do so, with first week sales of 93,000 copies. As of 2010 the album has sold 328,000 copies, according to Billboard.
I really love all the tracks on the album. Probably her most underrated work. I would probably place it above "Still Standing" and "New Life". Listening to the songs actually makes me feel nostalgic about the music from that time period. I honestly do miss the Crunk/Ringtone Rap era. Haha.
"Everytime Tha Beat Drop" #48 Hot 100, #11 R&B/Hip Hop, #84 Pop 100, #20 Rhythmic "A Dozen Roses (You Remind Me)" #37 Adult R&B, #48 R&B/Hip Hop "Sideline Ho"#45 R&B/Hip Hop Songs "Hell No (Leave Home)" #14 Bubbling Under R&B/Hip-Hop Songs

I still enjoy the Missy Elliott tracks ("A Dozen Roses", "Doin Me Right" and "Gotta Move On"). I can't get over the fact that "A Dozen Roses" missed the top 40 on the R&B/Hip Hop chart. "Gotta Move On" was definitely a leftover from Missy's The Cookbook. "No Stoppin", an ME production that was scrapped from the album was also good. I wore that out in the summer 07.
"Sideline Ho" is a delightfully trashy song. lol. "Everytime Tha Beat Drop" comes off as trendhopping for an artist of Monica's caliber, but it was her way of staying connected to the Atlanta streets. I enjoy the production on "Raw", which is a nice autumn banger.

Short, sweet and to the point. I like all of the songs on it and it's a very easy listen. I think one of the reasons it's so overlooked is because it doesn't have multiple massive highs like most of her albums do. "Gotta Move On" is definitely one of my fav Monica deepcuts (Tweet on background vocals is always a plus).
I'm glad somebody mentioned "No Stoppin," really wish it had made the album. And there was that street mix of "Sideline Ho" that was so much better than the album version IMO.
