2022 Billboard Hot 100 Year End Rankdown (WINNER REVEALED)

Welcome to the 2022 Hot 100 Year End Rankdown!!!

This year the legendary samo🦕 and I will be cohosting I am so excited to take on this rankdown with one of my besties!!

Before we start, here are some rules for those that are new/needing a refresher:
1. Rank these songs in order from #1 (Your Favorite) to #100 (Least Favorite) and send the list in a PM to me (@ wripwrap) AND to samo (@ samosaurus1) by the deadline.
2. You may send without artist names, but otherwise please send with the same formatting as we have. It'll make things so much easier for everyone if it is formatted correctly. Samo and I would greatly appreciate it (pleek we are begging you)
3. You are allowed to edit your list at any point, as long as it is done before the deadline!
4. The songs in the playlist are based on what is credited on Billboard, but you are welcome to rank any version of the song as long as it contributed largely to its chart run. For example, Save Your Tears is credited as the Ariana remix, but ranking the original is acceptable too!
5. 2 songs (All I Want For Christmas Is You and Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree) were removed as they are repeating Christmas songs. The projected #101 and 102 (based on ChartEssentials/TOTC/AustinRioux's Predictions) ended up being Beers On Me and Thinking 'Bout You, so we will be ranking those instead.
6. Be honest with your rankings! We're all here to have fun and share our music opinions!

While this year seemed to feel pretty stagnant to many people, there were quite a few notable records and other feats to take note of. Let's dive right into them!

Heat Waves officially claims the title of the biggest song of 2022 on the Hot 100 and it becomes the first song in Hot 100 history to take the YE #1 spot after making the previous year end list. Circles (Post Malone) and Smooth (Santana) both came close to doing this, but ultimately fell short at #2 in their years. This list also has the most repeats in a while (maybe ever? I didn't look too far lol) with 15, though 2 of them have been removed for being repeating Christmas songs. The most recent year that came close was 2015, with 14 repeats from the previous year. As a Pulse specific stat, 5 of the 15 repeats were songs that made our rankdown top 10 for 2021: INDUSTRY BABY, Good 4 U, Save Your Tears, Levitating, and Kiss Me More. The last 2 years we have only seen Blinding Lights (2020-2021), Circles, Bad Guy, and Truth Hurts (2019-2020) repeat.

2 artists had the most appearances on this list, those being Bad Bunny and Doja Cat. They both have 7 songs on this list. And while we're talking about Bad Bunny, 2022 saw a pretty big Latin dominance on the charts, in large part due to Bad Bunny. Besides the 7 appearances from Bad Bunny (and those featured on his songs), we also have appearances from Karol G, Becky G, Camila Cabello, and the Encanto Cast! I'm hopeful that we continue to see more Latin artists shine on the Hot 100. There was also a massive dominance of country music on the charts. I counted roughly 27 country/country-adjacent songs on the list, which is a lot more than the last few years which had 19, 19, 15, and 10 country songs on them.

This year relied heavily on samples it seems. Many of the trending hits this year were well known for their samples/interpolations - First Class, Big Energy, Cold Heart, Break My Soul, Vegas, Super Freaky Girl, I’m Good (Blue), Betty (Get Money), STAYING ALIVE, Hold Me Closer. This seemed to be a common trend of 2022.

I feel it is safe to say that 2022 was also a year of resurgence. Many artists released new music or gained hits who haven't been on the charts in a while; Elton John, Rihanna, Beyoncé, Kendrick Lamar, OneRepublic, Sia, Lil Yachty, and more. On top of that, many old songs saw a resurgence (a lot of them because of Tik Tok): Running Up That Hill, All Too Well, Die For You, Unstoppable, Under The Influence, and Dark Red to name a few. We even got a resurgence of artists considered to be cancelled or problematic! I'm mainly looking at you Morgan Wallen, but I know artists like Kodak Black, Sia, Chris Brown, Jason Aldean, Nicki Minaj, and more have had some controversies in the past.

Finally, here are some other remaining stats that I couldn't fit into other paragraphs lol:
- Roughly 37 first-time artists have made the 2022 year end: Latto, GAYLE, Steve Lacy, Willow, Dove Cameron, to name a few
- This year end has the most Christmas songs at least in a while, with 4 songs!
- Not 1, but 2 songs made the year end with a peak below #60, those being She Likes It (#63), and Flower Shops (#64).
- A few weeks ago 2 records were made when Midnights released, as it was the 1st time there were no men in the top 10 (a WIN!), and also it marked the 1st time an artist held all 10 spots of the top 10 at once.

A Morgan Wallen song isn’t even my least favorite country song on this list. My least favorite is definitely going to be my 100 and I hope that it could be the year end 100 or at least in the bottom 5.

I actually do and nothing will convince me to enjoy the Bad Bunny songs really, but for you, Ham, I will give them another chance. :) I know my top 2 will make the top 10 for sure. 

Running Up The Hill, All Too Well, Levitating, Good 4 U, Save Your Tears are all 100 percent making the top 10.

Count me in! I typically do TOTC's Hot 100 rankdowns because they remove all the repeats in favor of songs that just missed, but I'm gonna do this instead because the quality here is higher (plus I can complete it in a shorter amount of time).
