According to AllAccess, Atlanta's Rock 100.5 has gone dark and will flip format Monday at 6am. The rumor is the station will flip to "Classic Alternative."
They are currently stunting by playing "Bittersweet Symphony" by The Verve on loop.

And the rumors are correct. WNNX is bringing back the 99X name and old school branding with a classic alternative format. Jocks begin in January, so it's just a running playlist right now. Listened for a little bit during lunch. In the 30 minutes I tuned in, it was a mix of mostly 90s, a little early 2000s (played Kings of Leon) and some 80s (played Cure and Dexy's Midnight Runner). I was glad to hear it wasn't just grunge. As much as I love the grunge sound, 90s alt was sooo much more varied. They played (going off memory here) Moby, Pearl Jam, Fastball and Stone Roses from the 90s. Radio Insight article with details.

I've been reading Radio and Records, The Gavin Reports, etc. on Worldradiohistory and seeing a lot of the interesting and old tunes missing from modern radio that could have potential to make classic alternative even more interesting, and I'm sure 99X has a back catalogue as varied as other stations. Hoping they capitalize on it and don't just play the same overplayed generics. It's a bit tiring since there's potential in doing classic alt but I think alternative shouldn't be so backwards on nostalgia, it's just going to kill it more.
