If You Were Someone I Loved is the song that spent the most of lists in the last place, but it never starts or ends there. ccarter1023 and ethanhunt lose the last place rank. I noticed the album last year when it was heavily promoted by some online critics, in particular NPR and Pitchfork, for its portraits and her commanding vocals. Digging a little deep then I found Tyler Childers' cover of Space and Time from her first album on Healing Appalachia Youtube channel, probably the reason why that song is her most popular song on Spotify. Now for this particular song, it thematically pairs with the next song (You Were Someone I Loved) of the album on vinyl, but I think this part has more pulse. The lyrics seem a bit sparse at first but they hint the tragedy of opioid epidemic.

I kinda tend to not drawn to the stuff that doesn't actually have a lot of lyrics but maybe that's just me Also: *rank June Bug at #13* In seriousness, June Bug is a song from Erin Rae's debut album Putting On Airs released in 2018. I skipped her second album released last year because I sent the song that I want to highlight (Cosmic Sigh) in March Madness already. zack97 loses his last place rank here. Few lyrics aside, I enjoy the dreamy vibe of the song, especially the outro back when I started looking for Rolling Stone's year-end best country albums to listen to. Not much to say here. You feel it or don't.

No idea on what will land where, but my favorite discovery was 1,000% "Double Double." That song went straight into my playlist. Hope it does well. I'm truly sorry... The last reveal of today is a song from Emily Scott Robinson's EP Built on Bones released last year, featuring Alisa Amador (NPR Tiny Desk Contest Winner 2022) and Violet Bell, singing through the ragedy of Macbeth from the persepctive of witches in three-part harmony. tim joined .indulgecountry in losing a top 3. nathanalbright got rid of his last place rank. I still like the song, but I can see the repetitiveness and the dramatic dark production doesn't really suit her that well. Still looking forward to whatever her next project is though! Also is she hinting something when liking a lot of recent Dierks Bentley Instagram posts?

Love Emily Scott Robinson but Built on Bones was not really a project that appealed to me much

Can't say there are any true surprises here. I like most of these selections but prefer listening to them in the context of the albums through which they stem.

Wow, what a sham. The melody of the chorus on "Double Double" is straight MONEY.
That said, at least I've lost several low ranks already. My #40 was one of the few songs I flat-out didn't like anything about.

Doing predictions for rankdowns such as these is like rolling the dice because our tastes are going to be so varied. That's quite evident based on the rankings for "Double Double" which I found to be one of the highlights from the list and one that I came back around to revisit a few more times.
While I've only shed two of my bottom 5s, I'm glad one of those happened to be "Abandonitis" which immediately went to the bottom of my list as I just didn't care for it all. I'm actually surprised I didn't just end up placing it last.
"Bless Your Drunken Heart" was a grower for sure and one that I had to listen to a handful of times before settling down a ranking on for. Surprisingly, I ended up enjoying the song more with each subsequent listen and slotted it down inside my top 20. Looking back now I think I probably should've inched it up a bit further and placed it in my top 15.

Amsterdam has a tranquil melody about instances of little bliss in life. Admittedly the melody and lyrics can be repetitive, but still it is a comforting listen for me.
This song is the first song revealed that didn't get a last place rank. @trilogy got a perfect ranking.

12th of June and Amsterdam are tied in point, but nathanalbright 's #3 rank is the tiebreaker. Although it's still a familiar template of a singer-songwriter song and chorus, imo he got a great writing angle--life and death are endless in this day and place, and the part of getting twins in old age is a real event. Maybe there’s a country song in everything (joking). Guess I know how it would perform in Americana rankdown now. This also does not have particularly bad ranks, but the fact that it doesn't have many high ranks didn't help.

bboat11 saw his #40 leave with the reveal of The Garden. I first saw this song as it was Country Perspective's song of the year in 2016. I have always like the mysterious side of alt-country. This song fulfills it with slow burn vibe and a topic that feels like a taboo or sort. It wasn't even going to perform this bad as it mainly fluctuates in the middle of the rankdown during the submission. The last two participants pulled it down to the 30s.

I don't think anyone would be too surprised to see Blacklisted, which is the title track of Neko Case's breakthrough album, to leave now, even though it costs #2 from singingrulebritannia and my #3. gonecountry got a perfect ranking. Really though most of the Neko Case songs are deliberate disjointed and feels incomplete/"interlude-like", which is rare even when alt-country is concerned. I dig the desperation vibe when she sang this. It's the situation of you will get it if you get it. Oh well.

Unfortunately, nathanalbright became the second participant to lose his #1. My condolences. Out of the mostly obscure covers in Raise The Roof (their second collaborative album), I enjoy this one the most because first, atmospheric arrangements (just like the last few songs eliminated lol), and second, they show the most vocal interplays here, particularly during the chorus. It got the spirit of a duet.

Uh...wow. Really glad I reasoned with myself that there was a safer option when I was choosing my #1. "Blacklisted" is a classic, I have no idea what it's doing this low.

Ryan Culwell performed worse this time as Dead Man from his album Run Like a Bull released last year barely escaped bottom 10 by one point and lost the tie with #29.
It's a song from a man in despair, with no motivation but only wants a relief. The pulsating and explosive guitar strumming feel like a poignant last-ditch effort, especially the end.

Year-end best-of lists discoveries can be nice. I believe there are "golden melodies" that work by themselves, but interesting lyrics are cherry on top. The harmonica driving The Train is pure energy, and I like the lyrics musing about being famous, so much that the single version feels like a meta play.
Condolences to @trilogy for losing his #1 before #40, but at least you helped this song to win the tie.

The way I feel doing a disservice to Molly Tuttle, who was nominated for Best New Artist as a bluegrass artist and won Best Bluegrass Album with her album Crooked Tree in the past Grammys ceremony, but The River Knows struggled to escape bottom 10 only until the last submission. I still like this song from that album even though admittedly the theme is similar to The Garden. It's still a great bluegrass song showing adequate showmanship from the genre, though. 🌺CountryLineDancer and ccarter1023 got a perfect ranking.
