Not sure how things will go from here on out, but my guess for the top 5 would be: Ashley McBryde, Pillbox Patti - The Girl In The Picture Gabe Lee - Kinda Man Kaitlin Butts - it won't always be this way The Wilder Blue - Shadows and Moonlight Turnpike Troubadours - Good Lord Lorrie Close but not quite. One of the latest critically acclaimed offerings from Kaitlin Butts, a great country artist in her own rights in addition to being the wife of Cleto Cordero (lead singer of Flatland Cavalry), is eliminated. In the chorus, she expresses the hardship of leaving the abusive relationship in the form of repetition. The high-octave harmony in the bridge and the high note run near the end are essences of a great emotional song to me. I was surprised this missed top 5 tbh because the melody sounds like a certain country/pop star (starts with T and ends with aylor Swift) would make. Condolences to singingrulebritannia for losing his #1. How far can tim 's #1 go?

The Wilder Blue (artist and the album) are noteworthy in a sea of slow/serious country releases last year. Some of you may be familiar with this band and album as I sent Feelin' The Miles (which is their poppiest release) in a Madness game before.
If lingering memories take shape, Shadows and Moonlight might be the case. A hallucination outside the bar became the moment for the protagonist to face the past. The blend of Alabama's country pop/bluegrass and Brad Paisley's electric guitar rock are showcased well. Also the lead singer sounds like a better Mark Wystrach (again lol).
Unsurprisingly, this is a constant top 10 contender.

Many Orville Peck songs, especially from the Bronco album, have been featured in different games now, but I am surprised no one has chosen All I Can Say, which has an uncredited feature of Bria Salmena, one of his band members. The smoky female voice is his secret weapon for this epic ballad. The combined vocals express the reluctance and helplessness of both parties to the end of a relationship. I think the guest vocal potentiate his own vocals as well. zack97 and gonecountry got a perfect ranking.

This is the second time I have used Ashley McBryde to spotlight a lesser known artist, this time being Pillbox Patti (Nicolette Hayford). Now her own music (Florida) is a bit eclectic (to put nicely) but she happens to have an own song in the Ashley McBryde's Lindeville album and I get to use the golden chance for introduction. The protagonist is a woman who has been in the award-winning photos of the wedding banquet and of the missing person notice. I like the reveal the name of the protagonist near the end as it gives intimacy. Pillbox Patti also sounds great here. Condolences to tim for losing your #1. At least your #1 is the highest in this rankdown among all the songs that have #1 rank!

The Top 2Gabe Lee - Kinda Man Turnpike Troubadours - Good Lord Lorrie - Neither song has a #1. The best two ranks combination remaining is tim 's #2 and #5.
- One has the lowest SD, while the other has a moderate SD.
- They are the top 2 for the last seven submissions.
- The winner ends up with the same point total as the winner of the previous volume.

I'm pleasantly surprised to see Gabe Lee's "Kinda Man" make it into the top 2 as both that song and its parent album have been a go-to of mine as of late. Both that and Turnpike's "Good Lord Lorrie" are great, so either way it's a win-win.

Condolences to tim for losing your #1. At least your #1 is the highest in this rankdown among all the songs that have #1 rank! I actually am kind of kicking myself for not putting "Good Lord Lorrie" as my #1 song since I'm a big fan of theirs. The only reason I ended up not is because it's kind of overplayed down here in these parts of Texas and therefore I don't ever really seek it out from amongst their discography.

Good Lord Lorrie looks like to have a perfect storm going into the rankdown, but it's in fact Kinda Man that holds strong and comes out as the victor. Good Lord Lorrie may be the most important piece of music from Turnpike Troubadours as it helps to build a cross-album universe starring the main character that is Lorrie. Musically though this has never clicked hard for me like many of their other songs featured in the past, so unfortunately I have to be the only bottom half rank here (oops). At least it got the lowest SD, but it fell short of top 10 for many people... So I believe Kinda Man makes sense even without my input. There are 8 top 10 songs for this song which is quite a strong feat considering how over the place these rankdown results are. The bright guitar riffs transform smoothly throughout the song, and the story based on football career dreams is a clever take on recently popular sports theme songs. Congratulations to Gabe for the win (and a nice Asian-American presentation in country music)! Looks like he has finished making his fourth album recently too. P.S. congratulations to ethanhunt for the perfect ranking for Good Lord Lorrie.

I'm quite surprised by the outcome as going into this I was not at all expecting to see Gabe Lee be such a strong top 2 or 5 contender. That said, the song ended up being my favorite discovery from the rankdown and in turn was my most played song for the last two months lol. Even though I had listened to some of his stuff before, I for whatever reason never really dived into his material beforehand (that is until recently!). I have found myself coming back around to The Hometown Kid quite a bit this past week and would have to say it's without a doubt one of the best albums of 2022. And as I mentioned previously, "Good Lord Lorrie" was dang near my #1 song and I only slotted it down a couple of spots due to the fact it's rather overplayed (which certainly is nothing to complain about but probably not a song the rest of y'all are used to hearing so frequently on the radio in your neck of the woods lol). I actually thought they had the upper hand in coming out on top here, though. Thanks again, recordyear, for your hosting duties! While a lot of these songs here weren't necessarily my cup of tea, I certainly like expanding my range and stepping outside of my comfort zone.

I'm happy with the ending, while I thought Turnpike would have this. The Wilder Blue is a solid band when it comes to their handling of the instrumental production, but I still think many of their songs are lacking melodies that I like. Picket Fences was my fav from the album, and I was not really impressed with the melody of Shadows and Moonlight as much. Thanks for hosting recordyear. This is a great annual tradition.

One again, thanks for all participants for joining this rankdown. It's always my pleasure to share some of my tastes in country music with you and I hope you at least like some of them. I am currently hosting 2022 Americana Airplay rankdown and 2023 March Madness. You can take a look and join if you are interested.

Thanks for the reminder on the Americana rankdown as I somehow forgot about that one. And while I don't plan on submitting any songs for March Madness, I still hope to join along as a participant.
