I did not expect all of this outrage over "Mastermind" being out... but hey, at least this thread is alive now! RIP Joshua and Jugothy❤️ Ever since the teaser for the Midnights music video came out, I've loved the instrumental to this. And then the verses. Maybe even the bridge. But the lyrics... not good for my ocd. Moving on. #10 Preview

this was my favorite on first listen and it still holds up really well, an extremely catchy bop and I hope it smashes now that it is a single

Our beloved(?) conversation-starter, meltdown-causer, tour-closer "Karma" is out at #10. You all remember where you were when that "karma is a cat purring in my lap" lyric leaked. I was never the same again. Did you ever think you'd grow to love tolerate this bop? Anyways. All I'm gonna say is... he did it. #9 Preview

Now THAT was a massive reveal. SIX participants lost their #1s... sadly if you ask me. Of the two light-hearted boppy bops, I have to say that I'm #TeamBejeweled over #TeamKarma. Such an infectious little tune! Anyways... let's get back to our lavender route to #1! Up next... #8 Preview

I have never really liked "Bejeweled" as evident by my ranking. I just do not hear what everyone else hears in it.

I do actively wonder if this song (Bigger Than The Whole Sky) was actually about a miscarriage or if the lyrics just happen to construct that by accident, very pretty cut regardless. I think it’s open to interpretation, and it’s for that reason that this is THE Taylor Swift song that means the most to me, out of her entire discography. I cried when I first heard it, because it hits nerves that I’ve only recently realized I still had. And in the last two weeks, it’s been a catharsis to listen to. My interpretation is not exactly a miscarriage, but the idea of such a loss in general. I’ve opened up recently about the newfound realization I had of just how badly I want biological children. Yes, I realize adoption is another avenue. Yes, I would love an adopted child with my entire being, just as I would a child of my own DNA. Yes, I’m aware blood isn’t the only thing that makes family. But with the way this country is going, I won’t be shocked if the anti-trans bills start going after my parental rights, barring me from the option to adopt. Besides, biologically having a child is something I’ve known for years that I want to do. I went on HRT in July 2022, and was warned that after a short time there was a high chance I’d start to become infertile. I was warned it could or could not be permanent, no matter what I try, and that if I wanted children, HRT was to be delayed until I had frozen my sperm for preservation. I didn’t listen, not only because that is entirely too expensive for me to do, but also because I let my dysphoria talk me out of the idea…we all know what my going to a fertility clinic to store my goods (and biologically having a child in general) would entail, lmfao. I zeroed in on having finally found access to something that would make me finally feel at home and at peace in my body, without planning or realizing the future I potentially threw away. The chance to one day look in the eyes—my eyes—of a human being in my arms and take pride in having created something so beautiful. Something I’d always dreamed of, someone I’ve always had a name picked out for. This gnawed away at me in secret at the back of my mind over the past ten months, and in the last couple weeks it suddenly crashed ashore. The idea that I might’ve sacrificed my child for the sake of my own happiness shattered me into a million pieces. I’ve cried so many tears of sadness, guilt, and absolute fear in the past two weeks than I’ve cried in my entire life. It has honestly started to eat me alive, to be very real with you. So with my doctor’s approval (I finally heard back), I’ve decided to stop my HRT entirely to allow my testosterone to return, in hopes of letting my fertility try to come back. I’ve done heavy research on this, and while I was at the best chances before HRT, studies and peer-reviewed scientific articles show that there’s still a slight chance I could dodge the bullet and wind up having my fertility back. Not nearly as it was, but it’d hopefully be back. The first lesson of parenting is learning to sacrifice yourself for your child, and that’s what I’m doing. I’ll stay off of estrogen forever if it means I will still be able to look into the eyes of another human being and see myself. I will literally do anything for that. So…yeah. tl;dr Taylor Swift is a masterclass at taking a song and making it something that can be so universal to us all, yet so personal to each of us who listens to it. Her music has done this kind of thing for me all my life, and it’s why I love her so much.

With my heart now dumped all over this set of reveals lmao, I’ll just say that this set of songs is banger after banger. I was especially happy when we found out how well “Hits Different” would do, as I hadn’t anticipated seeing it anywhere near the Top 10, due to its low familiarity and Target exclusivity. I’m so glad we have a Target in my country, because hearing this song (especially the BRIDGE?!?! ??? ) for the first time was an experience. I’ve nearly worn the Lavender CD out just to hear this song, lol.
Meet me (at midnight) tomorrow for the grand finale!!!

Will never understand the hate for Question tbh The verses are so clunky that it feels to me like the song needed more workshopping before it was finished.

I unfortunately wasn't able to be here for reveals, so I'm just catching up on this now. There were a lot of great songs - especially "Hits Different," "Bejeweled," "Karma" and "Mastermind," but I'm not too surprised anything went out. I wish "Karma" could have been higher, but I'm not surprised it left when it did, since it's a bit controversial. I'm also really happy "Hits Different" did so well. I'm a bit surprised "The Great War" is still in! I would have expected it to go out earlier. There's one song remaining that I'm not the hugest fan of (although I expected it to be in this long as I know my opinion is unpopular), but it's by no means a bad song. Can't wait for the final reveals tomorrow night!

14. Not mad this is gone, still don’t think this is much of a standout. 13. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO 12. Mid tier on the album, but it’s a good song still 11. See 12 10. See 13 9. See 11 and 12. Also why does this have half a dozen #1s? 8. See 10 and 13. Anyways why did Midnight Rain make the last third and Hits Different didn’t?

I was doing so well only for Bigger than the Whole Sky and Question to be eliminated back-to-back :c I know they aren't the most exciting, but they have some of the most incredible lyrics on any Taylor project. Still feel so enthralled every time I listen to them.
Bejeweled is my #1 because the instrumental sounds like a fully realized version of one of the default MIDI songs that came preloaded in the media files of 90s versions of Windows, and that's one of the best compliments I can give a song.

#8: "Hits Different" - I haven't spent much time with this one but enjoy it. I ranked it on the lower end because I'm not as familiar with it. Surprised to see it rank this high. #9: "Bejeweled" - fun song. #10: "Karma" - love it. I can understand this being a bit polarizing but suddenly I'm confused as to how "Midnight Rain" is still in this. #11: "Mastermind" - this made it farther than "Sweet Nothing," "Labyrinth" and "Snow On The Beach?" Really? #12: "Snow On The Beach (feat. Lana Del Rey)" - I enjoy this one but not surprised by it's overall ranking. #13: "Question...?" - overstayed a bit IMO. #14: "Bigger Than The Whole Sky" - my #20 that probably should have been my #21. I don't think it's bad but I don't get the urge to listen to it.

Don't really care whether Bigger Than The Whole Sky is about miscarriage, or whether it is about her or someone else, but the chorus melody reminds me of Over You by Miranda Lambert which I love. Also it has my favorite usage of "would've could've should've" over that song lol
Question on the other hand is meh and I don't really care about the chorus.
I expect more towards a Taylor Swift/Lana Del Rey and while it didn't end up being an overrated song like most of the superstar collaborations. It is only a solid one.
Mastermind has my favorite kind of heart-pumping like sounds. Great closer of the main album.
I like the music of Karma more than the lyrics, but I honestly don't think the supposed bad lyrics are that bad.
The digital sound of Bejeweled (that clearly refers that video game) is a bit too gimmicky for me.
Hits Different also does not really belong to this album but I appreciate the less sedated sound.
