I prefer this to Same Ol' Me (which was also being considered) but I have no idea what to expect out of this. Lyrically it may ruffle some feathers? I don't know.
Overall I'm happy about it but also intrigued by the choice.

I can't really pour my heart out on the FM radio Cuz the way I'm really feeling won't fill up the coliseum on the edge of Tupelo
And the whole "need a little backbone in my backbeat" has always struck me as shade to the prevalence of snap tracks these days.
Nothing he says is WRONG let's be honest but I can see people not loving it.

I don't mind this single choice and it is a step up from "Gold", but man "Walking Each Other Home" is right there. Yes it would be a huge risk, but damn I want that to get single treatment.

It is not currently in the setlist for the new tour so...not sure that's gonna happen sadly. I'd like to see it get released too.

This song was not that memorable when I spun the album, but it is a solid song after all with a decent melody. Happy for this single choice, although not sure how much this can connect with the audience, given that it does not strike me as a song that would collect buzz around it.

This song is so generic to me, and potentially my least favorite on the whole album. That said, sounds like a safe radio hit and easy Top 10.

I was really hoping for "Sun Sets In Colorado", which was head and shoulders above the rest of the album to me. Short of that, "Something Real" is a solid choice. The verses are really good, even if the chorus falls slightly flat to me. Also find it slightly odd that a song about "Something Real" is fairly generic instrumentally. It's not trend chasing by any means, but it also doesn't really take any chances.

No news on add dates for this? It's probably my favorite song on the album "Gold" is still getting a solid amount of airplay and the next few add dates are pretty crowded. I imagine the announcement will come soon.

I’m gonna take a guess and say that the release of this song to radio possibly got delayed as to not get in the way of the release of “Herassmeant” from his buddy Doug Douglasson’s band the Hot Country Knights. Especially since they’re touring with him again. 😂

Not in the top 50 after 3 weeks...yikes This song is doing fine though, it's still picking up plenty of adds, charting on Billboard is pretty hard and "Gold" was a pretty soft hit so the followup was gonna struggle a bit especially as his latest album doesn't have much if any buzz to it. All things considered it's doing about as well as someone should expect given the circumstances.

During his VIP pre-show performance last week he introduced it and said "it's burning up the charts at like #72 this week and you might hear it on the radio by Thanksgiving." He's nothing if not self aware? lol

Not in the top 50 after 3 weeks...yikes This statement applies to 90% of country radio releases, lol. The only ones in the top 50 that fast are either lead singles that get iHeart Radio premieres or songs by the likes of Morgan Wallen, Luke Combs, and Kane Brown, among a couple others.

Haven't heard it on the radio yet but it sounds sooooo good live and if the audience in Tampa is any indication, this should do just fine at radio. For an album that barely sold anything, the crowd knew the song already. (He also did Same Ol Me.)

Debuts at #60 on the Billboard Country Airplay chart. Definitely shocked it took this long to chart if I wasn't a chart watcher as I have heard this song a fair amount on radio already. But I am happy it is on the chart regardless.

His flop era i guess. Probably won't rebound since he debuted in 2003. He's here in VA like 2 hours from me in MD. Wish I was off work and could go

Wish I was off work and could go I feel like I am gonna repeat what I have said to you earlier, but I do think it is way too premature to write off this song and Dierks rebounding at country radio as this song entering the chart after a month of going for adds is okay considering how poor the album sold, how crowded the chart is, and this will probably make Top 20 at least when it's all said and done even if it takes a long while to get there. Given all of the circumstances, this song is doing fine. One of the biggest things when watching the chart as a country music fan is patience. Dierks Bentley isn't in the position to have 20-30 week chart runs anymore (not that he had a ton of those either).

I'm really surprised to see such slow starts for Dierks at radio almost always in the past several years. Other than "What the Hell Did I Say", his past 9 singles have all gone top 2 at radio - 6 of those happened after WTHDIS flopped. He's one of the most consistent acts we have in the genre in terms of radio success, yet radio takes forever to hop on new singles from him. His singles always seem to pick up the pace once they hit the top 30, but most of his last several singles have taken forever to get there. I know he hasn't had a huge hit in many years at this point, but you'd think radio would treat him better than not letting this debut until a whole month after it went for adds.
This is a good song, I like it better than "Gold" and WAY better than "Beers On Me" so I don't know why radio wouldn't turn this into another top 5 hit for him based on his past radio success. It's just too bad radio has been so slow to jump on this.

With how aware he seems to be about radio being slow to take to his songs/his radio career winding down, why did they go with such a bland nothingburger of a song? The album has a few really stellar tracks that would have also been able to be at #48 after 5 months. This song never did anything for me and I am disappointed an artist as great as Dierks is being so safe 20 years into his career.
Justice for "Heartbreak Drinking Tour"!

Gold spent 42 weeks on the Airplay charts (longest of his career...) despite obviously underpforming. But this album sold next to nothing and his hype is at an all time low so i get why radio won't blow this up unfortunately

I feel like the chances of this doing anything are dropping quickly right now. It’s not an awful song but it’s not something I listen to very often.
