This is going to sound weird but I figured it was worth talking about. Last year Billboard announced they'd be switching to Mediabase from BDS as their main monitored data source which they'd used in some capacity since 1990. That alone isn't the thing that's bothering me since it does have more coverage at this point, but rather the fate of everything they'd done up until now. I remember years back accessing Mediabase for about a week and a half after someone leaked a university password on ATRL and being amazed at the monitored logs more than anything else. It only went back to 1998 and none of the stations in my area were included but there was just so much valuable information there. BDS went even back further, all the way back to 1989 in some form. Not just hundreds of radio stations but channels like MTV as well! Now that BDS is no longer used for charts I can only hope that all the historical data survived in some form. It'd be a tragedy if so much history that was already gated off to a select few people was now inaccessible to everyone. I can only assume Billboard has some sort of backup they can use for Chart Beat and other historical columns. Basically I just hope this information is still alive because think of all the stations that no longer exist that little to no information exists on. If we have a record of something and it doesn't exist anymore it's a travesty for not just chart junkies but for music history.

Thanks for the help although I'm more thinking about the data that powers the charts, basically the entire daily 24-hour station logs for individual stations and channels. I just hope it still exists in some form and wasn't all condemned to the recycle bin because they weren't using it anymore. Honestly they should just release it to the public in some form, if they're not using it anymore why bother to hoard it? Besides it'd be a great resource to music and chart historians to know how many spins a particular song had before it got big, even if the number of stations was pretty small when it started. Other than that the only real thing I can find would be old Airplay/Radio Monitors but those are hard to come across outside of WorldRadioHistory.com.

MTV/VH1 didn't begin monitored airplay until April of 1993 in Billboard.

Really I'd just like to see the video channel logs half for nostalgia reasons and half because next to no information exists in that way. Plus apparently they monitored channels for BMI and ASCAP so maybe someone there has some sort of record. It'd be nice to see an all-format chart from previous years too.
