That'd be nice to see but honestly, I don't really want to see artists make heavy-handed hamfisted attempts at political commentary. We don't more songs like I'm Not Racist or You Need to Calm Down. If you really want good songs promoting progressive ideals then go out of the charts because the chance any of those get big during the year they're made, as I said in the other thread, is small and just take solace that in a year from now, I doubt even conservatives will be streaming TTIAST. It doesnβt have be artists releasing songs with progressive messages. The best way to counteract these MAGA country songs is to mass stream other songs. I think stans of all pop artists and rapheads need to come together and stream the hell out of whatever songs that deserve to rise to the top. ...well then I'm glad to break it to you that people who are disgusted by this song or who don't listen to Jason Aldean...are still doing that lmao. There's not really any need to do any "counter streaming", just keep listening to what you want to listen to. TTIAST will have it's week at #1 and then it'll we can ignore it until it's time to say what the worst hit of the year is and then years from now people will be just as bewildered that a pro-gun, pro-extrajudicial justice song went viral for a couple of weeks before being quickly forgotten. It's already peaked in streaming.

Ice Spice and Baby Keem are the two young gen rappers that broke through in this decade that seem to be getting the most organic support. While there's also Lil Nas X and Jack Harlow, the first one (though he had his breakthrough in 2019 I'm still counting him because most of his success came this decade) is probably more supported by pop listeners than rap fans, and the latter is in a slump and honestly his next album will probably decide whether he will be an actual a-lister in rap or not. I think that rap's biggest problem at the moment is the lack of new artists; in the 2010s there was someone blowing up every half a year, and now the scene is just stagnant with mostly the same names as five years ago, in opposite to pop, where while Taylor is still the biggest artist, the genre is mostly run by singers who blew up in the last 5 years. While I agree there's been a lack of new acts in the hip-hop scene (I'd include JID as another rapper who's really been growing in popularity the past couple of years. I would probably include Latto as a young rapper who's breaking through, although obviously not as organic as Ice or Keem.) I will also say it'll take awhile for new acts to really make their mark. Just over the past couple of years we've seen acts like Roddy Ricch, DaBaby, Lil Tjay, Iggy Azalea, and others flame out quickly after their big hits. Hell just go back to the late-00s/early-10s when a bunch of rappers got several hits and also flamed out afterwards. I'd hate for that to happen with either Keem or Spice so we have to be patient. 21 Savage, Lil Uzi, Cardi, Yachty, Travis, and others didn't make big numbers with their first mixtapes either. There's also still a transitional period at place since acts like Uzi, Kendrick, Drake, Travis, etc., are still getting big streams - at least on debut weeks. We could see people like Lil Baby and Gunna steadily increase over time but that's yet to be seen.

A few years ago I thought NY drill rappers would take over the next wave of hip-hop when the 2010s stars recede, especially with Pop Smoke's posthumous rise, but besides Ice Spice that whole genre has mostly struggled to cross over. There was also rage music coming up from underground a year ago, but even ppl like Yeat and Ken Carson are struggling to cross over. Hip-Hop is in a weird transitional time right now.
