Would be cool to see if he can outdo the Astroworld first week sales numbers. The new album is great!

Nice numbers for Travis, hope they trend upwards. Solid numbers for Posty without a big hit.

I guess when you don't care if your fans are dying during your concert you'll sell more records.

Travis Scott’s UTOPIA (Cactus Jack/Epic) is headed for a #1 bow on this week’s HITS Top 50 with a first-week total at or near 400k. U.S. on-demand audio streams are projecting in the vicinity of 350m. Meanwhile, Mercury/Republic’s Post Malone will open at #2 with his fifth album, Austin.
Now if you’ll excuse us, we've got to finish gluing 10,000 sequins for our Taylor Swift Eras Tour outfit.

Another typo. SOS should be projected at 9 and Lover at 10 instead of 12 and 9 respectively.

Do we think Drake's album will outperform Utopia? Of course. His base is built in whether he puts out quality or garbage (points to that dance album he put out last year..and Views )

Even if Travis is the main story, Post still doing over 100k especially during his massive decline is still nice to see at least.

Do we think Drake's album will outperform Utopia? Many factors with Drake. Depends on the material (Honestly Nevermind showed he will have lower numbers with non-Rap), depends on the rollout and collaborations, also tracklist length and if there’s any standout hits. All in all, he just did over 400K in 2021 and 2022. He has so many big openings at this point. It speaks an enormous amount to his power that the only other rapper able to do this range needed a 5 year break, notable sales configurations, and has only done these numbers once in their career prior.

I don't think it's anywhere guaranteed that Drake will beat Travis, with Honestly Nevermind only opening with 204k and Her Loss opening with 404k (chalking those up to what you will of being just a dance side-project and a collab album, he's still on a downward trajectory). It might do closer to Her Loss, but could very well fall short of 400k.

Utopia possibly ending up with less than half the first week pure sales of Astroworld makes more sense than the prior prediction given that the latter had album merch bundles.

It might do closer to Her Loss, but could very well fall short of 400k. If a flop in his standards, and a somewhat praised collab project can still do those types of numbers respectfully, then i think an actual studio album from him can do better than them. All of his projects labeled as such does well (Views 1.04M, Scorpion 732k, CLB 613k). Although you can see the downward trajectory with the numbers I still think that if For All The Dogs (or whatever name is final for it), is a studio album then it can do probably 500k at least if its received well. I get Honestly Nevermind is technically a studio album but its better off really labeled a mixtape or “playlist” like More Life and it wasn’t Drake’s normal sound. Guess that’s also a factor going into this praying its familiar territory for his fans and the GP.

This would be the #2 post-bundles solo-male sales week. After the inspiration for "Style."
Though they did recently start re-allowing some bundles. I see 10+ options on his site, though IIRC Billboard will only allow two pre-approved options?

Whatever Drake's forthcoming album ends up doing, he's still by far the biggest name in rap music today and the fact that he doesn't need to take 5-year breaks to drop albums that put up massive numbers, makes his success all that more impressive. He has dropped 4 projects so far this decade but they've all scored notable debuts, especially when compared to how the rest of the rap world performs commercially.
These are the biggest hip-hop debuts ever (using only SEA units): 591k - Scorpion 562k - Certified Lover Boy 392k - Her Loss 339k - Tha Carter V 287k - Legends Never Die 283k - Astroworld 279k - More Life 278k - Eternal Atake 272k - Donda 258k - Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers 250k - DAMN 243k - The Off Season 229k - KOD 214k - I Never Liked You 210k - It’s Only Me 204k - Dark Lane Demo Tapes 191k - Honestly, Nevermind 187k - My Turn 187k - Championships
Of the 19 albums listed, 11 of them were released this decade and of those 11, 4 of them are Drake releases.
If For All the Dogs ends up being a mostly rap effort, it'll have a massive debut, especially if it has at least 20 songs like the last 3 Drake solo rap studio albums have had.
It's worth noting that Honestly, Nevermind was marketed primarily as a dance album and Dark Lane Demo Tapes was marketed as a throwaway compilation of leaks/vault tracks to tide fans over before Certified Lover Boy arrived. Both projects also had 14 songs each and were released within 6 hours of being announced.

Out of curiosity did Drakes “Honestly Nevermind”’get any hits? I forgot about the project until this thread. I liked a decent amount of it. Especially “Texts Go Green”.

Yeah "Jimmy Cooks" went #1 and was #33 on the Year-End Hot 100 chart last year. But to be honest, that song did not belong on the album: it was the last track and the only non-dance trap song. Would've fit better on Her Loss in my opinion.

Post's 'The Diamond Collection' may finally chart. It was quietly reissued as a Deluxe with 18 tracks and priced at only $5.99! It's in Top 40 of iTunes. Might be enough to outsell the other projects and snag the streams from the parent albums? Obviously, 'Chemical' streams will go to 'Austin.' We saw that happen multiple times with The Weeknd's "The Highlights' continually bouncing up and down the chart.
It's so strange that TDC has never charted because of Billboard's sales requirement. This reissue might do it.
