I knew that the name Supercar sounded familiar, but couldn't figure out where I had heard them from? Turns out that they did some insert songs for Eureka Seven, my all-time favorite anime (!) I don't remember the songs they did for that series in particular, but E7 has one of the best anime soundtracks out there, so I'm sure they must be good. That's the only show I can find that they worked on though (and that feels weird because I feel like I've definitely seen their name on more stuff). But even though I'm not super familiar with the band, Lucky was a really cool discovery! I'll definitely have to listen to more from this band. Yea, after double-checking, I'll have to change that description because it's not totally true. What happened is, I saw that they had contributed songs to the Ping Pong soundtrack, and I had heard of the Ping Pong anime so I thought that's what Wikipedia meant. But this was actually the 2002 live action movie based on the manga, not the 2014 series. Yeah I thought the same thing at first too. (coincidentally, the Ping Pong anime also has one of my favorite soundtracks, so that would be a pretty flawless track record for them if they were on that OST too. Also, was definitely confusing them with Stereopony in my head for some reason, which is why I was thinking that they had done a lot more) Wasn't expecting to place a Girls Generation song at #1, but this one is like so good and immediately catchy very cool discovery. Clube da Esquina is a fire album I discovered from my daily albums earlier this year as well. Almost sent a song from it for Last Stand! I discovered Groove Tube from Spotify playlist radio of all things lol, like it just came on after whatever album or playlist I was listening to and I immediately fell in love with it, had never even heard of the band before, such a fun track (and Doctor Head's World Tower is a good album too!)

Your final 2.
Viento Airport Lady
Tale of the Tape: This was the top 2 for only 2 movements One of the songs spent 13 movements at #1; the other song never made it to the top. These songs have a combined 29 top 10s, 17 being top 5s and only 1 being a #1. 11 bottom 16s remain, 3 being bottom 10s. No one can get a perfect top 2, but Red can get awfully close, having 1 vs 3. 3 players have no top 10s left. One of these songs is the lowest SD. The difference between the songs is a decisive 53 points.

So, don't worry, I didn't die. My computer's internet connection did, though (I'm sending this post on my phone's mobile data). I cannot post the top 2 until it has returned, so hold on tight.

The reason my Japanese picks in these first two volumes have trended so modern is, I wanted to ensure the series could tackle a lot of these songs before they were set to be featured in the yearly RYM singles rankdown series Reputainbow is hosting. Now that I've taken care of those songs, the Japanese picks will start trending older, and more toward the City Pop most of you were probably expecting. Well, the city pop appears to be doing extremely well right out of the gate, lol 2

{IM JUST LATE WALL}#10: Well, that was easy. I'm not surprised that it got this far. Power pop, when it hits for me, hits. This just didn't, really, but it was still solid. #9: This almost feels like it comes to us from a higher plane of existence, especially the chorus. #8: I do wonder what the results would have looked like in the "Selection" RD if a couple people who submitted here and didn't submit for that RD would have sent a list in for that RD. I suspect someone other than Mdou would have won. I would have ranked pretty much anything from Afrique Victime top three. #7: Even without knowing the lyrical content, this is a beautiful song. It becomes a work of art when you look up the lyrics. #6: The energy here is unreal, and I think that's what helped to separate this from "Bad Boy" in the first set. #5: This wasn't my personal pick to win, but I expected it to be in the whereabouts, for sure. Go listen to this album, y'all. It's worth it. #4: As someone who has never really cared for the Baggy/Madchester scene, this goes in directions that would have made the scene so much more interesting to me if they were implemented more often. #3: J-Pop is the fucking best. Combine that with nostalgia and a little bit of unusual instrumentation, and what do you know? You have a great song. #2: Yeah, uh, I will be very, very, very, very, very surprised if I rank the city pop songs that you include anywhere other than super high going forward. #1: Eh, this time, I'll allow it. God, what a song this is. The instrumentation is precise, the vocals are just right, the chorus is super catchy, and it all comes together so wonderfully. I've listened to this just about every day since I heard it for the first time, and I feel like it keeps getting better every time I listen to it. On to V3!

My main issue with songs such as Ojalá is simply it doesn't suit my music tastes well even if it's a well composed song, while songs such as Chismiten and Tudo O Que Você Podia Ser do have elements that get me hooked such as their psychedelia and pleasant melodies.
I certainly underestimated Gee. I suppose it's not the kind of K-pop I enjoy the most. I also didn't expect Girl's Night to end up in the top 3 although it's certainly a well produced uplifting R&B track.
I'm surprised that I was the only one to rank Groove Tube as my #1. Next time I hope that I can give my #1 to a discovery.
I didn't think much about whether Viento would end up winning. It did resonate with me better than Tren Al Sur did.

Oh I am SO happy Girl's Night was able to make it as high as it did. I'm here to learn a bunch of new foreign songs with sounds I've never even considered before, so it stands out on this list by being a very recognizable genre to Americans instead of something more insular, but Crystal Kay still manages to put on a crazy unique spin on it that was just straight ear candy. So catchy, so much swag, incredible beat.
After Hoshi and Hallelujah Chicken Run Band got tanked early on (it was kinda deserved in Hoshi's case but I still can't believe Kare Nanhasi got done like that since it felt quite accessible to me) I got a lil worried for Girls' Generation and Mdou Moctar, but I'm glad to see that was unfounded. Two more songs just perfectly selling their emotions.
While it doesn't hit me nearly as hard as Tren al Sur, I will definitely take the pure entertainment factor of a Spanish song winning in exactly the same way twice. Viva Latino baybeeee~
Edit: Oh and of course I gotta thank YOU Gates for putting on a good show of hosting and giving me a morbillion new discoveries to add to my playlist. I'm not a super deep music listener, but I like to consider world music like this an exception, something I actually do put energy into searching for interesting new listens in. Yet you still managed over twenty artists I'd never even heard of! Mad respect.

Ikareta Baby is such a cool discovery. How can they manage to not make reggae beats cringy while maintaining the relaxing vibe from the genre?
Gee has that weird nostalgic feeling even though I don't listen to it much. Guess the spam at that time here in Hong Kong helped.
The grooves in Groove Tube and Airport Lady are quite tight, but Tudo O Que Você Podia Ser feels effortless in every compartment.
Thanks gates for hosting and can't wait to listen to volume 3.

This is so late lol but I am really happy with this winner, and honestly the top end in general! It sucks to have lost my #1 kinda early but Viento was an easy top 3 for me so that's cool :)
