White guys with guitars have always been successful, and he came out post-Adele when the Pop industry transitioned normal/relatable images instead of sexual/unattainable images. (Sam Smith, Meghan Trainor, etc) The post-Adele transition never really stopped and I would say today looks and sex appeal matter way less in the industry than in decades. Billie, Olivia, etc don't rely on sex and don't market it anywhere as much as a Britney/Rihanna/Madonna/etc did. Same with men considering Morgan Wallen, Post Malone, Bad Bunny, etc are recent top selling male artists and don't walk around with 6 packs and abs in music videos. The names you mention for men aren't "pop" performers, they're respectively country, hip-hop, and reggaeton (or "Latin" if you wanna be broad for Bad Bunny -- who definitely is a sex symbol btw!), and there are definitely "white guys with guitars" who are successful without leaning into sexy, but they're usually in bands and/or have very brief moments of pop success. Ed had nearly a decade's worth of consistent top ten hits including some massive smashes. The closest I could really think of to Ed was Coldplay in that regard, but even then they've only had 5 top tens, 2 of which were collaborations with hot artists at the time (Chainsmokers and BTS), and again -- a band, not a solo artist. I'm not like some Ed Sheeran stan btw, I just have always found his success impressive given that it seems to be entirely music-driven rather than personality-driven. Post Malone hasn't been Hip-Hop in years at this point, and Morgan def has a huge crossover audience. I'm not sure there's been any notable male Pop artist to truly rise the last few years aside from Harry Styles and he doesn't rely on selling sex in my opinion. Obviously plenty of women find him attractive, but his image hasn't been his selling point. Him being fluid and wearing dresses in magazines also is not marketing traditional sex appeal lol. Harry is in the same boat as Taylor Swift. In general, many people find her attractive -- but she has never tried to specifically sell sex appeal in her music and do something racy like Britney/Madonna/Rihanna. As already said, you can look at the industry in general today and see artists in general don't have to rely on looks anywhere as much as past years. It isn't really something specific to Ed. The normal and relatable image is much more commonplace now.

folklore (and evermore to a lesser extent) still streamed and sold really well, despite not having radio hits, though. Sheeran will be absolutely fine but people aren't checking for his new music anymore.
Again, the average/casual person is not going to seek out an album about death. lol
Ed has not put out a fully promoted full project yet that has "flopped" by any standards. Unless you are judging them based on his previous eras which is just foolish lol
His last true project = featured 2 songs that are over 1 billion streams and one is at 1.6+
Lead single was in the top 20 year end for 2 years for us Hot 100, etc.
Let's see what happens when he drops his "pop" album - probably in the summer? He said he is working with new producers as well, so we can see what happens then.
But based off his last 2 albums, they were not standard Ed albums. Minimal promotion, if any and very few singles etc. Hell, even Subtract single that was slightly promoted has what, nearly 300 million streams?
TL;DR - You cannot YET say people are not checking for his new music anymore

Ed makes music targeted directly at pop -- not another genre that happened to crossover to pop -- and he has never been perceived or treated as a heartthrob or sex symbol, and really nothing about his personality/appearance has ever been his selling point as a celebrity. He's just made a lot of pop songs that have been really successful without any other aspects of his persona getting him press or attention. I think that's interesting and unusual that he managed to be a consistent hitmaker for so long without girls & gays fawning over him or guys wanting to be him.

His next project will be a pop album. We can judge whether his hit making days are over or not with that album. I'm not worried about his career as a fan.

Sheeran will be absolutely fine but people aren't checking for his new music anymore. these two are her least successful albums in terms of hits since her debut. Speaking of Folklore hits, august is back inside the Spotify Global Top 50!

I will sau this thread is far more entertaining than the Ed album for sure!
Harry might not be showing up naked to concerts but it'd be foolish to say he doesn't use sex appeal to sell. Specially compared to people like Ed Sheeran, Adele or Morgan Wallen.

Name an artist just as beautiful as them.

Not complaining, but any particular reason for Mitski's climb? For a more indie artist she's had some success on Spotify before but nothing like this.

I will sau this thread is far more entertaining than the Ed album for sure! Harry might not be showing up naked to concerts but it'd be foolish to say he doesn't use sex appeal to sell. Specially compared to people like Ed Sheeran, Adele or Morgan Wallen. Well, according to this article, about a third of Morgan's fans are women aged 18 to 24 year old, so he's definitely a heartthrob to them. An INSANE statistic from that article:

Not complaining, but any particular reason for Mitski's climb? For a more indie artist she's had some success on Spotify before but nothing like this. Tiktok Also, her new album was released on September 15th.

Jung Kook is releasing his first album on November 3rd. If 3D debuts at #1, he's definitely going to challenge the record for the shortest span to score three #1 debuts with his next single. The current record is 4 months and 4 days, which is held by... BTS.

Morgan is super cute now that he's shaved his head. Definitely heartthrob material.

I wonder if the large amount of radio airplay can spawn months of longevity and become “CSTF 2”. Never really expected *NSYNC to ever come back tbh, but I guess since JT has completely fallen off commercially, he’s trying everything to get another hit (just like that random “Give It To Me” 2.0 song that apparently everyone asked for last month), still crazy.

Might be able to hang around the top 40 for a little bit if sales and airplay hold strong, but it's doing nothing on streaming (where I think CSTF did at least moderately, peaking around #6 or something) so it's not gonna get anywhere close to CSTF. And yes, Justin's career faltering is obviously the sole reason he finally reunited with *NSYNC.
