White mustang has been my favorite Lana song til summer of 2022, then Heroin got to #1.
Never will I forget her concert for Lolapalooza Paris, just a day after she released Lust for life.

White mustang was the 1st song she sang from new album and NOBODY KNEW THE LYRICS.
that was magic... Just to hear her singing.

And it just hit me that moment.

"Hope is a dangerous thing..." I feel like I initally didn't give much attention to outside of the album, but once I listened to it by itself it really clicked. The simple piano and vocal works so well here and the chorus really ties it all together. Perfect closer for the album.

This is one of the more upbeat moments on the album and it works really well amongst those first five tracks. I wish it could've placed a little higher here. Catchy, good lyrics, great production - what more could you ask for? I think what might turn people off is the repetitiveness? Condolences to Austin for losing his #1.

"California" is such a good song to drive around on a hot summer day with the windows down to. I've done exactly that. I thought this would be ranked lower so I'm happy to see it make the top half. Condolences to Twigs for losing his #1.

One of my early favorites from this album, that post-chorus gets stuck in my head so easily. I believe this one also had a minor TikTok moment a year or two ago? Can't remember for sure. Join me tomorrow for #5 through #1!

"fuck it i love you" has never been a huge favorite of mine, but i genuinely like everything on this album.

i loved "cinnamon girl" more in 2019. i still do, it's just that other songs crept up as favorites over time.

As far as my list goes:

#14: The Next Best American Record is the only track on this album that I kinda don't like.

#13: Bartender is nice but somewhat forgettable. Doesn't spark the way most of the rest of the album does.

#12: How to disappear is definitely a step up from the other two with that instrumental/lyric pairing that Maylord mentioned really does something to elevate it.

#11: hope is a dangerous thing for a woman like me to have - but I have it has never been one of my favourites. It and How to disappear were definitely close rankings.

#10: Things start to pick up A LOT with the beautiful Love song. This song has an undeniable sophistication that Lana executes way too well for her own good, idk.

#9: Then we get to Happiness is a butterfly and OMG when I close my eyes and listen to Lana execute those exquisite melodies, I feel like I'm being physically lifted into a levitation, almost akin to a high.

#7: Cinnamon Girl took a while to grow on me (it'd probably have been in my bottom 4 at some point in the past) but the lyrics are the real winner here. The words in that chorus in particular are heart shattering in the simplest of ways.

#6: With California we go back to melody being the strongest contributor to my obsession with this song. The pre-chorus and chorus are insane. I close my eyes, sit back, sway my head a bit and get completely lost in the tune that only Lana can deliver so gently without compromising that feeling of overwhelming longing displayed by the lyrics.

Ughhh this album.

Zach You explained how I feel about most of the songs better than I could! I especially feel really similarly about Cinnamon Girl, the song all around is an experience that I still am not sick of. And we're not even at the majority of my top 5 yet.

cinnamon girl has been the biggest grower for me along with the title track. the chorus is sublime

“Cinnamon Girl” has been a big fave since the first listen. It’s probably the most accessible, pop-leaning song on the album imo.
