We haven't gotten an update from Talk of the Charts in a few days now. YLM can't possibly be a contender for #1, can it? I know its out-of-the-gate streaming was strong, but not strong enough to outperform the Christmas hits with 7 full days.

Really rooting for Brenda, would like to at least get some new #1s when the holiday songs take over every year I see Last Christmas as the next contender 👀 But yeah, it’d be refreshing to see a holiday season where AIWFCIY and RATCT don’t dominate. Maybe next week she can take it if not this week? I know she has the NBC television special Christmas at the Opry on Thursday, Dec. 7. Might be just the little boost she needs.

Well if you don't like Christmas songs, you might as well not check out the charts for the next 4-5 weeks because for better of for worse the Christmas freeze is here. Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree goes back to #1 with a 75.25% boost in streams, already being up 12M. Alongside it re-entering the Top 10 were All I Want for Christmas is You, Jingle Bell Rock, Last Christmas, and It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year. This knocked Lovin On Me off the top spot down to #2 though it only dropped 2.61% in streams, it'll likely be the number one song once the holidays are over. This pushed down one of only two debuts to stick around from last week sa exes fell by 22.09% though it will hopeuflly rebound when the album comes out next Friday. The other was You Broke My Heart by Drake which collapsed by 48.47%, without a doubt the worst performing Scary Hours project by Drake.
Now while Christmas will dominate the charts for the next month, they didn't completely drown out other songs. We didn't get our biggest debut of the Week until Wednesday as with less than 48 hours of tracking, Taylor Swift's You're Losing Me debuted with 5M streams. We also saw continued rises for Surround Sound and Can't Catch Me Now, both songs reaching new peaks and will hopefully stick after the holidays. Hopefully they also get more airplay.

Does Spotify removed AIWFCIY from any major playlists?
If they just put Brenda above Mariah it's a kinda weird, but shouldn't be critical to AIWFCIY.
Still Spotify has bizarre things going on with Xmas tracks like position jumps in charts for White Christmas, a situation when White Christmas/RATCT and many other songs had the same streams counter, and that first playlist from the Xmas section containing only very old tracks. Maybe I don't understand meaning of the word "classic", but I suppose that the biggest Xmas song every year for last 12-15 years has certainly deserves this status and should be very high on this list.
Anyway, rooting for Mariah this and next weeks.

Who knew Pandora was still so relevant in 2023? It makes sense that's the difference, though, since last week "RATCT" and "AIWFCIY" were tied in the amount of streams, but "AIWFCIY" was 3 spots ahead on Streaming Songs because it did better on higher tiered streams. So, "RATCT" was clearly ahead on programmed streams like Pandora by millions of streams. Passive streams being what puts "RATCT" ahead gets back to what I posted here. awkwardowl Spotify had removed "AIWFCIY" from at least one holiday playlist, though now it's back on there. It has lowered its placement on some other playlists. |
