Maybe it's just me, but does anyone else think Taylor wrote this song to ironically mimic "Downtown Lights", the soundtrack to her and Matty's love affair and that's why she released it first? Both are stylized with 80s production, both have that thumping beat, both have that slow cadence in vocal delivery, even the lyric "nobody loves you like me" reminds me of "I love you it's ruining my life". It's just so Taylor coded to write and release a song mirroring and mocking the song Matty loved/sent to Taylor that reminded him of her so that he couldn't think of one without the other.

Would have loved to see this in the top 5, but it ultimately did its job. I agree that they should move on so that we can at least get a couple of more singles out of this project. For initially thinking it was devoid of singles, I now have serious trouble deciding on my favorites for the single choices - there are honestly many viable options. The obvious ones are Down Bad and ICDIWABH. But, Guilty As Sin, a radio edit of BDILH, So High School, MBOBHFT, and So Long London should not be ignored. I also really love the dark horse option of WAOLOM too! I honestly agree with all the options you gave (except maybe so long London). Would LOVE a radio edit of But Daddy I Love Him. That would be my ideal next singleβI love the song itβs just a bit too long in its current form. I think loml would be a better ballad single than so long London though.

SLL has that driving beat that is just so infectious though! The tour performance of TSMWEL almost made me choose that, but ultimately I donβt think radio is here for that slow of a ballad, which the same could be said of loml and even moreso. Itβs been a while since weβve had a true TS ballad at radioβ¦Iβm not opposed to the idea though. Switching it up may not be a bad thing, especially for a third single if the second single is more upbeat like BDILH or ICDIWABH.

Did it resurrect itself or is radio recalibrating after last week's long weekend playlists resulted in currents having worse updates? I swear I wouldn't be surprised to see this skyrocket to #1 or drop like a rock into purge-land. Neither scenario seems surprising.

Would they actually try to push this to #1? They can't. They might be able to pull it off through straight-up buying, but it would take a long, long time and there'd be no reason to. It would just sabotage all the rest of her singles and the complete rest of the era.
Also, no one has mentioned much any singles choices from the anthology tracks, but if I had to go with one I definitely think imgonnagetyouback stands out. It could at least be a New Romantics-type moment.

People are lost on how "payola" really works. Actual money doesn't exchange hands. That is literally illegal and would come with penalties, making it too risky to ever be adopted by enough stations to succeed in purchasing the quantitative spins for a #1 placement. Payola typically is a more "you scratch my back, I'll scratch yours" arrangement between radio programmers and labels that include things like promises for interviews, concert tickets, promotional perks in exchange for rotation etc. This practice is a lot more commonplace and less sinister than people think. I'd argue a "push" from top 3 to #1 is most common within the industry (rotating #1s). However taking a song from outside the top 5 to the top would be much more difficult. It isn't impossible, but it's unlikely.
Regardless, I hope they announce the second single soon and let this peak naturally, as I'm bored with it. It's going to drop swiftly regardless, as 90% of Taylor's singles always do.

This seems to be the typical 11-15 slowdown, except the spin thresholds were lower and sheβs Taylor Swift. Makes sense that the slowdown happens higher on the charts.

This is SO much better/catchier at *1.25 speed. I think the song has some stuff going on for it. Several small tweaks would have improved it so much. I really love Post towards the end, it's easily the highpoint of the song, but the rest of it kinda falls flat overall. God I hope she tries some fresh producers next time.

It's like an 80s remix Yeah I think legitimately had the song's pace been at least .75x faster, people would've been way more into it! As Choco said, it has its strengths, but it drags on a bit for me. Such a simple tweak could have made all the difference. Still outperforming my expectations at radio tbh. I kinda expected a Cardigan-like peak.
