hitsdailydouble.com/news&id=340146&title=NEW-RELEASE%253A-ARI-SHINES-BRIGHTSaturday, March 9, 2024 NEW RELEASE: ARI SHINES BRIGHT Republic's Ariana Grande will debut at #1 on next week's HITS Top 50, as eternal sunshine is on pace for an opening in the range of 165k-185k, good enough for the biggest bow of 2024. This sets up eternal sunshine to meet or exceed the first week activity of Grande’s previous album, Positions, which opened with 174k in 2020. On Saturday morning, Spotify confirmed that eternal sunshine earned the most single-day streams for an album in 2024 in its opening day. Grande's set will also give House Lipman a third consecutive week at #1. Monte plans to celebrate with a trip to Montauk. A wildcard this week is Ye & Ty Dolla $ign's Vultures II, originally slated to arrive on 3/8. Judging by the sloppy roll out of Vultures 1, who knows when part two could drop? Stay tuned for projections later in the week for new titles from Epic's Judas Priest and Dirty Hit's Bleachers.

How is it only doing 165k, I thought it already sold like more than 85k pure sales, is the album really doing that terrible on streaming platforms other than Spotify? The number is so underwhelming.

I mean, if an artist surpasses their previous work it's always a good thing, but ngl, I expected at least 200k.

She's in line with her other openings(except for sweetener & thank u, next, which did 200k+ & 306k), so it's not bad for an album that was announced like a month or so ago🤷🏾
And it has the potential to hit 200k this weekend with her SNL appearance.

Ariana's album does have 4 different versions each of vinyl and CDs on her webstore. They will shipped by Tuesday and should count toward this week's numbers.

Yes, these predictions include physicals and SNL (which barring any sort of viral moment does not translate into much anyways - just ask JLO).
Much like Olivia Rodrigo last year, a savvy physical strategy (dropping multiple versions and vinyls on debut week instead of spreading them out like they did with positions/SOUR) is masking a pretty sizable streaming decline into a slight increase/slight drop on overall units.
Now let's be fair. Ariana is NOT an album artist. My Everything back in the day had pretty pathetic sales, it only grew when you added in the streaming for the plethora of hits it had. The sweetener and thank u, next eras were most likely outliers and even then she never approached pure sales juggermauts like Billie's debut or even Lover (even when Lover was a relative underperformance back in 2019).
The real issue for Ariana isn't the album numbers. She needs hits and yes and wasn't a good choice, first week comeback hyped numbers notwithstanding. It would also absolutely be no big deal if she was able to move quickly but I fear she's gonna go back into a musical hiatus to do Wicked press and stuff and then take a break. Personally I think her minimalistic sound is kinda tired and she needs to go a little bolder. Even if it tanks, serve something new. These new songs don't even seem to take advantage of her amazing voice which is what made her shine all those years ago.

Pre order numbers are misleading. One would usually think oh it sold 85k preorders it will easily triple that but the reality is that preorders make the bulk of the debut week numbers especially since vinyl is inflating the numbers so much these days and those take time to make. It's why you won't catch Beyoncé and Taylor doing surprise releases anytime soon if they want to keep having big debuts. A more reasonable guesstimate is usually preorders plus some sort of streaming prediction.

It won’t be sales that they’re unsure of and need to create a room for error. That room for error is reserved for streaming performances. If her album dips by -35% tmr then it should be 180k, but if it drops by 40-50% then it’ll be 160k.

Positions didn’t have any physicals. This has 7 vinyl variants, sold out signed copies, two months of pre-orders, and a deluxe edition. It's still not a bad prediction either way.

It's still not a bad prediction either way. I’d say it’s on par, all things considered, with Endless Summer Vacation debut. Which is not a range she should be in. in terms of what? the only similarity I see is the release date. ESV's sales were really solid (which Ariana outsold with her website sales alone before the album release), but it debuted with 8M Spotify streams and charted 3 songs on AM top 200.

The album held up very well in its second day on streaming platforms. Hopefully that means it'll trend upwards and toward 200k!

Ariana Grande’s eternal sunshine (Republic) is closing in on a first-week total of 200k and is set to become her sixth #1 debut. With sunshine’s D2C sales still coming in, will they be enough to push Grande’s seventh album over the top? The newly christened Republic Corps could also have as many as 10 of the week’s Top 20 titles.
Meanwhile, Judas Priest will score a Top 20 opening with Invincible Shield (Epic), which has us wishing we could still fit into these leather pants. But we have no shot.

Good increase for Ariana. The second single going viral has done wonder for her streaming numbers.

Utopia's longevity is very impressive. I thought he was over I'm curious as to the reason why it's seen a boost in the last few weeks. Nothing is being played on radio (although it looks like they just sent out a fourth single, Fein, but that's just starting) and the tour is over. I wonder if that Grammy performance really helped? I'm not sure.

^Only their first album debuted in the top 20 of the Billboard. So, not surprising.
