Jeez, aren't there any moderators around here keeping this place organized?! ;) echocountry I just moved this into the subforum, because it hasn't been announced to get any kind of a radio push yet, but I can move it back if it officially gets released as a single.

Can't wait to listen to Sara's podcast. She's got the dry humor that will totally be right up my alley!

I just listened to Bobby Bones podcast with Sara.
I was shocked when she said her & Jay are back together. They have been living together since November.
The new album is titled "Unbroke" and comes out June 7.

BEAUTIFUL! AND THOSE LYRICS!
"You'd turn into Jekyll, and I'd run and hide" has got to be a new high for 2024
Edit:
"Are you insane, or are you brilliant? Am I crazy, or just resilient?" is another epic couplet
Edit x2: "You left a mark on my face And brought a dozen red flags in a vase."

I feel this is her most personal song ever and I absolutely love it. I also watched the first episode of her new podcast (at 2x speed because it was an hour long lol) and she spent the whole time talking about Jay and the incident that transpired, plus the aftermath. Which is what the song is about. So if anybody wants more backstory, they should check out her podcast on her YouTube channel.
Now... Martina girl... it's your turn.

Wow, crazy she is still together with him. With these damning lyrics I was shocked to see they reconciled.

Wow, crazy she is still together with him. With these damning lyrics I was shocked to see they reconciled. I'm glad she let us in with these interviews and podcasts and such rather than just keeping her private life entirely private, because it is good to know the full story now (not just the bits and pieces leaked thru media outlets) and also know that they've spent years working on repairing their relationship through separation, sobriety, therapy, etc. I had a feeling she had been through A LOT of soul-searching when he randomly resurfaced at her Opry invitation last fall, and I really commend her on being able to get through all of this and make it work for her.

I agree, I am glad she told her story. And while I don't agree with her decision, like she said, it's her story and if she thinks it's for the best, more power to her (I do worry though). With that said, this song loses its luster knowing that she takes him back after hearing these cutting and shocking lyrics (just a personal opinion).

I agree with all of this, especially the bolded part. The song is decent, but knowing the next developments in the story, it does lose some of its impact. I wish Sara well, and I do worry as well. Time will tell, I guess.

That man literally tried to kill her, did he not? I’ll wait until I have heard her speak before I say anything more, but as of this moment I too am STUNNED beyond comprehension that she took him back. Again, I need to hear her explain things herself before I pass too much judgment on that. This is a beautiful song regardless, and those lyrics are EXCEPTIONAL. Perhaps the best lyrics released in country music so far this year. Her voice continues to age like the finest wine, and I’m so excited to get this new album in June.

Not trying to come across as rude or anything by saying this, but she literally released her 1-hour premiere episode of her podcast simultaneously with "Pride" for that very reason. She explains in great detail all the ups and downs she's endured with her marriage, explains exactly what transpired the night he allegedly tried to kill her that the media leaked with minimal details, and finishes the episode with a tidbit that she wrote the song in 1st-person and then contemplated turning it into the 3rd-person because she had ultimately reconciled with Jay, but Jay himself told her to leave it the way it was because it was her story and her perspective. It's very easy for us as civilians who don't know Sara Evans personally to say behind a computer screen that it's a bad look that she took him back or that it makes this song ineffective or whatever, but she is the one living through it and if they can get to the point as a couple/family through years of separation, sobriety, accepted apologies, and continued individual & couples therapy, then that's their prerogative. Granted, no one has to agree with it and can have their own opinions on it and whatever, but anyone speaking on the situation regarding her and/or "Pride" without first listening to the podcast is really missing all the context. I was in an abusive relationship for awhile in 2022 and I stayed because I kept thinking that I could eventually fix him and get things back to when we were happy previously; I couldn't just let go of all those good times because the current times weren't so good. That said, we eventually did split, BUT we're now able to be good friends again and he's been 1 year off drugs, is in a stable mental state again, happily dating someone else, working at a new job he loves, etc. We aren't romantically entangled anymore but he's put in the work to where we've overcome the dark moments in the past, put them behind us, and moved forward as best friends. So I maybe have a different outlook on this compared to some other people who've never been in a situation like Sara's, but I cannot in any shape or form find fault in her for choosing to stay with him if they've spent years putting work into salvaging their marriage. Some of the comments I've seen online just make it seem like she blindly took this man back over nothing, and that's just not the case. She's far from the first to stand by her man, so to speak (June Carter Cash, Beyonce, Hillary Clinton, etc.), and won't be the last.

I don't know why it's so refreshing seeing a normal album rollout happening. Lead single, music video, album in a few months. I don't know how to explain it. I guess when they reach a certain age when they don't really chart anymore, we don't get that.
It'd be cool if she had a promo team to at least try to get this a little bit or airplay or some playlisting.

So after the first few listens the melody wasn't clicking with me, despite loving the lyrics and vocal. Well it clicked and I'm thoroughly loving this now. So great to have new music from Sara

Surprise surprise, this debut at #60 on Canadian country airplay chart this week. I don't think this was added by any Mediabase stations officially even in Canada, but it collected enough airplays this week. Not that I am expecting this to climb up the chart, but it is still refreshing to see her name on the chart. This is her first appearance in Canadian chart since 2013 with Slow Me Down.

I consider Sara in my maybe top 5 country artists, her catalog is just so strong. That said this is just OK for me. Her voice is amazing and the lyrics have some really strong couplets but I’m not digging the melody at all and something is just a tad off for me with the final mix - it’s almost as if her voice is so loud the song is a cappella in spots.
I have zero doubt the album will be great and his is just an OK song on it.

Wow, that's amazing! What a surprise indeed! Honestly, if Trisha Yearwood could get a chart hit a few years ago, like a full decade after she fell off the relevancy wagon, I don't see why someone like Sara Evans shouldn't at least be able to scrape the 40s or 50s of the chart with this stateside. It would be lovely to see. And there's several men her age still going strong on the charts, of course.

I just don't see Sara Evans charting on country radio in the USA, unless she gets on a label with actual radio promotion. Her current label just has little to no pull with mainstream country radio.

This woman has had to fight tooth and nail for every morsel and every crumb that country radio has ever given her. It's so incredible to see her still chart in Canada now that she's literally not even trying to play the game anymore!
She's earned the right to rest on her laurels and still get a little bit of recognition
