So, the first release was a radio edit? Seems like too small of a difference to me to even warrant a different cut but maybe others will feel differently.

It felt like a classic country video. Now, we just need the album. Hope we don't have to wait too long.

It is a really good video! I hope this makes it to at least the Top 20.

HELLO BUDGET!
Man have I missed high production videos. That video was excellent, even if I feel like the song is pretty middle of the road.

It's a solid music video but this song is still so mid and the hook of "Wranglers take forever to burn" still sounds so silly imo. I just wish a song that has fire and burning stuff had more fire power to it.
I am not that worried abkut the upcoming album as with the exception of "Vice" and "Me and Charlie Talking", the lead singles for Miranda Lambert do tend to be on the weaker side.

That’s why I was surprised I liked the video because I don’t really listen to the song. I so wish she had added some personal details into the writing but it is what it is. Excited for what is hopefully another consistent album.

COME ON BUDGET!!!! This move to Republic Records stays being delicious. Loved that music video, and I remain firm in the camp that this is classic MirLam regardless of whether she had a hand in its lyrics or not. The more radio plays it, I feel like the more people are gonna love it and give it great callouts. Hopefully that rings true, and I can’t wait to hear word of the album.

Yeah, I honestly continue to be a bit mystified that many people find this track mid, because for me this is A+ classic Miranda Lambert with a fresh twist. It sounds so comfortably in her wheelhouse for a song she didn't have a hand in writing herself, yet doesn't feel like a retread of any of her prior revenge tracks. Unlike in a song like "Kerosene" where she's just angsty and mad, this is told through a more mature 3rd-party lens (it's literally coming 2 decades later in MirLam's life) and offers a more brooding, sinister vibe to it. The echo-y whistle, downplayed tempo, the sort of stairstep down on how she sings the hook melody, it's all SO delicious and makes total sense when you consider the lyrics. For one, Miranda isn't the one who was directly scorned this time around, and two, the chorus lyrics imply that she's essentially witnessed her girlfriend go through the ringer for awhile:
If he ever loved her, he never let it show If she didn't need him, she'd left him long ago She set it all on fire, and if there's one thing that she learned Wranglers take forever to burn
Basically, he's been a deadbeat boyfriend/husband/etc. for quite awhile and she held on for as long as she could, likely hoping he'd "change". But she finally took agency into her own hands, and the hook is basically a metaphor for the slow build to her finally setting the relationship on fire, marked by the fact that denim doesn't burn quickly.
Also, I agree with the above comments that the music video is chef's kiss. I love, love, LOVE the throwback nods to "Kerosene" with her look and the replica cannister, especially considering it was directed by Trey Fanjoy, who has been doing the majority of her videos since her literal debut single 20 years ago. What a cool evolution of a career that have them still working their magic together after multiple decades. My favorite element of the visual is definitely the gold bodysuit with the backdrop of the big burning 'W' in the sand. Homegirl looks SO good. ‼️😍🔥

^ I liked reading this perspective. I’m glad to see there’s different opinions. I saw her do it at whitewater a few weeks ago and it’s clear she enjoys singing it. Really curious what kind of sound we’ll get on the next pre-releases.

Homegirl looks SO good. ‼️😍🔥 I thought that was fierce too, but what was really iconic was when they took one last shot of that “W” and had her standing on the other side of it, to make it the letter “M” instead, aka her first initial. I thought that was an incredible move.

There’s a tease to a new song on her tiktok. If you mean "Dammit Randy" that "smoking cigarettes like they were going out of style" line is such lazy writing compared to what I'm used to from her.

The snippet of "Dammit Randy" sounds incredible! http://instagram.com/p/C8m5-IQOmdt Love the lyrics, too. The few lines we hear, from what I assume is the chorus, paint a pretty vivid picture of the trailer trash relationship she experienced with this 'Randy' character. Mentioning "counting singles in a double-wide" and "smoking cigarettes like they're going out of style"/"turning me up on your radio dial" is the clever writing that we've become accustomed to from Miranda.

So excited to hear “Damnit Randy” as that sounds like yet another smash hit with classic MirLam writing. Hopefully in a short while we’ll be hearing official word of the new album—it seems so far like this is going to be the most Miranda Lambert album of her career.

The credits on the streamers are wrong. Should be Miranda not Audra. Jon confirmed.

"Dammit Randy" fits right into that beautiful melodic groove of stuff like "Bluebird," "Strange," and "Settling Down" from the past few years. Her ear for those breezy, punchy melodies has been so on-point lately. Sounds like a total smash if it were to hit radio down the line imo.

Dammit Randy is solid song following the louder lead, but it feels like less detailed than songs from her past both in writing and music. Also random thought but I think she picked this particular male-sounding name partly because of her first name, so I wish there is a twist about that "misleading" but I don't hear through the lyrics.

It’s also Jon’s nickname. And someone else said they think she used it bc of the Sony Nashville CEO since she said they started the song from a convo about how supportive Republic was being.

Without even hearing the album, “Damnit Randy” is likely to be among my top favorites. She just does this type of song so incredibly well, melodically and especially lyrically. “Smokin’ cigarettes like they’re going out of style, turning me up on your radio dial” is not only classic MirLam writing but also one of the best country lyrics of the year imo. If “Wranglers” does well at radio, this one has potential to send her back to the top.

I really love Dammit Randy. It's taking me back to old school Miranda with the lyrics and the sound.

I hope she doesn't release half the album before it comes out. At this rate, it better be 30-something songs.

Literally everyone releases like 4-5 songs before the album these days. That's just the name of the game these days with the rise of streaming. I miss the days of not having half the album 'spoiled' ahead of time, but that's just not the market anymore. Artists stand to gain a lot by releasing promotional singles for streaming ahead of the street date for the record.
