 Back with another MJ album rankdown, this time focusing on his 1991 album Dangerous. Wanting a fresh change, he broke away from longtime producer Quincy Jones and worked primarily with Teddy Riley, Bruce Swedien, and Bill Bottrell. Dangerous was an international smash, topping the album charts in the US and 14 other countries, and winning two American Music Awards. Seven singles were released in the US, with four reaching the Top 10 and one going all the way to #1. It was also his first album since renewing his contract with Sony for $65 million, the biggest contract in music at that time. The album was originally intended to be a greatest hits package titled Decade, but plans for that never materialized. Here are the 14 songs we'll be ranking: Jam Why You Wanna Trip On Me In The Closet She Drives Me Wild Remember The Time Can't Let Her Get Away Heal The World Black Or White Who Is It Give In To Me Will You Be There Keep The Faith Gone Too Soon Dangerous Final rankings will use an inverse point system. Oh I'm so in. I think this is my favorite album from him (maybe not his best but my personal favorite). I love the new jack swing tracks on here. Will submit this ASAP.

My ranking is gonna be so different from when I was a teenager and first discovered this album.
For example, I appreciate "Give In To Me" wayyyyyyyyyyyy more than I did at 12.

Sent! I think this would be a next to perfect album if it didn't include Heal The World, Keep The Faith, and Gone Too Soon. They're not bad but I think those disrupt the flow of the rest of the album (which Will You Be There kind of does too but I think it's better than the other three).

This song was written by Steve Porcaro and Michael Sherwood and recorded during the Dangerous sessions, but was left off in favor of "Gone Too Soon". It was later included on Thriller 25.

This song was first recorded during the Bad sessions, then later reworked for Dangerous. It didn't make the final cut, but did end up being released as a promotional single in 1992.

I need to re-listen to this album a few times before doing my rankings as it's been a long time since I've done so. The two bonus tracks featured so far belonged on the shelf since they don't fit the vibe of the album. I agree with Mayman about some of the others disrupting the flow of the album as well. |

Here we have a song that was recorded in 1989 and intended for Dangerous, but didn't make the final cut. It was then set to be released on a special edition of Dangerous, but that album was shelved.

MJ wrote and produced this song with Bryan Loren. Bryan wanted it on Dangerous, but it didn't make it. It was leaked online in 2002.

This song was written and produced with Bill Bottrell. It didn't make it on Dangerous, but later surfaced on The Ultimate Collection in 2004. It's widely speculated that it's about Jermaine's relationship with Randy's girlfriend.

This song was written and produced by L.A. Reid and Babyface for inclusion on Dangerous, but didn't make the final cut. Then it was remixed by Tricky Stewart in 2010 for inclusion on the Michael album, but it didn't make it there either. A 2013 version with Justin Bieber leaked online, and finally, a solo version made it onto the 2014 Xscape album.

I don't think I'd heard "Work That Body," but it's funky and fits the vibe of the album.
"Deep in the Night" shows real promise, and I wish there was a finished version because I think I'd love it. It's the kind of MJ-inspired music The Weeknd sometimes puts out.
Anyway, I just submitted my rankings! One thing I forgot about but was reminded of on this re-listen is how overly long some of the songs are; so many of them could easily be edited by at least 1-2 minutes.
